《Infinity Tomes - Legacy of the Ancients》Chapter 17 – Confrontation with an Expert

Ling-Yu’s eyes grew misty and she clenched her fist tighter as she fought back against the inevitable. She did not want to look weak, she was a very proud girl. Despite her efforts a shiny drop of liquid ran down her cheek and a second afterwards, the water works started.
Ling-Er tried to console her sister and Du-Feng scolded her but nothing seemed to help. Ryu felt annoyed but couldn’t help but feel bad at the same time. He didn’t know what to say and could only look at her helplessly.
After a few minutes of awkwardness Ryu decided to do something. With a single thought, the Infinity Tome flipped its exquisite golden pages. Ryu reached upwards and grabbed out a huge claymore that’s over two meters long, the blade was thick and the base was over half a meter wide. A turquoise glow formed around the sword and floated in front of him.
“You guys must have gone through a lot of hardship inside this forest. It’s no place for you guys, why don’t I give you guys a lift out of here?” Ryu proposed as he stepped on the levitating sword. He didn’t know that the reason she was crying was because of him but he couldn’t stand it.
The Flying Sword technique had many variations and was extremely popular. It’s the most common method for those below Heaven Realm to fly for a temporary amount of time.
The trio looked at him in shock. He couldn’t be thinking of carrying us out of here by himself? It’ll take an absurd amount of Qi!
In fact they were right. Qi used in the Flying Sword method was actually very inefficient compared to his unique flying style and it will consume a rather big portion of his Qi if he were to carry them all the way out.
Ling-Yu finally stopped crying, as she calmed down to sniffling a look of hope appeared in her eyes. In fact, Ryu noticed all three of their eyes had changed but he couldn’t figure out why.
Are they simply amazed? Why are they looking at me like that? Ryu thought.
After they got on, the group took off at moderate speed in the air. The trio started looking below frantically, as if they dropped a treasure.
“May I ask what you guys are looking for?” Ryu asked politely after an hour.
Before Ling-Yu could speak, Du-Feng covered her mouth and politely replied, “The three of us were originally living in a secluded area for years to avoid our pursuers. We recently learned someone dear to us has gotten poisoned and one of the few antidotes for it is the infamous Black Blaze Rose that supposedly grows here. However not only did we not find it, our pursuers found us.”
Ryu nodded as he listened. Du-Feng didn’t reveal all the vital information but he was truthful about what he said. He was worried that if Ryu detected any deceit he might stop helping them. Besides Du-Feng has been around for decades and he could tell Ryu was an upstanding individual.
“That rose… is in the inner sanctum of the forest…” Ryu said slowly. The faces of girls lit up, even Du-Feng was surprised but Ryu continued, “You’ll probably die before you make it there though, no you will definitely die.”

“Then why don’t you turn around and take us there?” Ling-Yu asked, her bossy tone was back despite her flushed cheek from crying earlier.
“Unfortunately even I can’t get it myself.” Ryu spoke as he shook his head. In fact, he did see it but never attempted to get it before. The roses grew inside a pool of magma and had an extremely powerful pair of flying beasts guarding it. Those flying beasts were the fire moths, descendants of one of the “kings” of the forest.
“God, I hate you! I’ll go there myself then.” Ling-Yu spoke as she jumped off. Ryu quickly grabbed for her arm but to his surprise, her arm transformed into lighting briefly and made it intangible.
“Sister!” Ling-Er screamed after her.
The claymore shot downwards in pursuit right away. Ryu knew the sword wasn’t going to make it in time so he shot forward, propelled by a large amount of flame behind his feet.
As he approached her, they were only fifty meters away from the ground below. Instinctively he grabbed her waist and threw her upwards backed by a gust of wind.
Boom! Ryu crashed into the ground, leaving behind a small tremor and a deep crater. A few moments later Ling-Yu landed softly nearby.
Ling-Er and Du-Feng arrived shortly after but their expressions were aghast.
“I… I didn’t mean too!” Ling-Yu sobbed.
“This is…”Du-Feng was speechless. He blamed himself for not disciplining Ling-Yu better. Although the sisters came from a noble background, they were forced into hiding for the past five years. During that time Ying-Er had slowly adapted to the life or a commoners and even had started helping out while Ling-Yu became more and more unreasonable.
“Sister how could you?” Ling-Er angrily spoke, it was the first time she had raised her face or even shown an emotion.
Precipitously the ground beneath them shook and Ryu shot out. His clothes were all tattered revealing more of his molded body and his previous perfect hair converted an array of mess. The girls couldn’t help but blush again as Ryu became even manlier in their eyes.
With a wave of his hand the giant claymore flew back into the Infinity Tome.
“Let us part ways then. It seems you guys are dead set at finding this herb. May we meet again.” Ryu said impatiently as he turned around to leave. He didn’t wait to bother good-bye exchanges.
“Mister! My sister was only thinking of our father, he had been poisoned by a Rank 7 poison and the doctors estimate he only has a year left to live.” Ling-Er pleaded.
“Young hero, please don’t be offended. If you are ever in the Floating Rain Metropolis, please look for us!” Du-Feng yelled after Ryu after seeing his determination to part.
Sigh, why is this girl so annoying? Eu-Meh was much more understanding. Even if she’s doing it for her dad, she was too unbearable. Ryu thought of his friends and his grandpa, he couldn’t wait to see them. He wondered how they were doing.
After a few minutes, a weird tremor pulsated through the ground. It was barely detectible but Ryu was on guard. It happened a few more times within the span of a minute.

Sigh, I’m going to regret it. Ryu hurriedly dashed back towards the girls, his gut feeling told him something was wrong. The tremors were unnatural, it was subtle and was only picked up by Ryu’s aura.
Ryu spotted the trio but he also saw a group of fifteen people slowly surrounding them. A pair of shimmering wings appeared on Ryu’s back and with a flap, Ryu took flight.
“Get back!” Ryu bellowed with his Qi, the nearby trees shook. The trio were happy to see Ryu but the urgency in his voice frightened them. Currently everyone in pursuit were in the Master Domain.
A rumbling sound could be heard and suddenly the weapons on the ambushers all flew up into the air towards Ryu. The array of weapons consisted of daggers, throwing knives, swords, maces, axes and even a gauntlet. This revealed the location of the ambushers.
It was an intimidating sight to behold. The weapons circled Ryu as if they had a mind of their own. Ryu descended in front of them like a war deity from the heavens.
“Hohoho a petty trick. A shame that it’s more flashy than practical.” A sudden voice boomed out. It seems to have come from all sides and the girls coughed up blood. This totally dwarfed Ryu’s voice earlier.
Bang! Ryu felt a strong force from beneath him. It was all he could do to fling the trio away with his Qi before he got hit. A giant stone hand came from the ground, enveloped Ryu and dragged him under ground.
“This is… the Terra Golem technique!” Du-Feng said with visible terror in his voice.
“Haha yes indeed, you must be Du-Feng I presume.” A figure appeared from the earth.
“You… you are Elder Fang-Da from the Resilient Gaia Sect! Why are you doing this?” Du-Feng gasped after deducing the opponent’s identity. The Raging Thunder Sect and Resilient Gaia Sect are both one of the top five sects in the Lin Province. Both headmasters are one of the few people who entered the King Domain, earning Rank 7 for the respective sects.
“A dead man doesn’t need to know.” Fang-Da said simply. Seven enormous stone boulders appeared from the ground and combined into a colossal giant behind him. The unnatural being was several meters tall and casted a dark shadow over them.
“I got to say, if you didn’t foolishly come back to the forest then my Unearthing Tremor wouldn’t have located you guys at all.” Fang-Da laughed.
“No…” Ling-Yu whimpered, her heart sank. It’s all my fault!
“Our sect leader had entered the King Domain decades earlier than yours, are you looking to start a war with our sect elder Fang Da?” Du-Feng said apprehensively. He couldn’t believe that a peak Grandmaster Domain fighter would personally come out to capture the girls.
“Haha, funny I heard that pretentious leader of yours is about to kick the bucket? You can deny all you want but the rest of the world will find out in the Ranking Tournament in half a year won’t they?” Fang-Da sneered as he turned his attention to the girls. With a smack on his lips Fang-Da continued, “So the information was correct, there really is two pair of special bodies…”
The stronger and more cultivated you are, the less chances you have at conceiving a child. The reason behind this is unclear but if a kid is conceived by parents with high cultivation, they’ll most likely be blessed with stronger bodies and in rare cases, special bodies. The Raging Thunder Sect leader actually conceived a pair of twins when he was at the King Domain! The result was that the twin girls were blessed with extraordinary bodies with special lightning abilities.
“How did you know?” A wide-eyed Du-Feng said with disbelief. Impossible! This was top secret.
“I think you know who but it’s time for you to d---” Fang-Da said with a smile but was interrupted by a huge bolt of blue light from the ground.
Ryu was a little more than ticked off. It was the second time he had been dropped into the ground in the same day. The white robes he wore were all created by him by Qi tailoring that he quickly picked up. He refused to wear the dark robe Alexis’s had left which were of much higher quality.
“So you do have some skill after all… to be able to escape from my golem’s grip…” Fang-Da said with amusement.
Ignoring his comment, Ryu suddenly appeared behind the girls and knocked them out with a blow to each of their necks. Ryu then took out a basic storage ring and threw it at Du-Feng.
“Take it, it’ll definitely cure whatever poison the person dear to you guys have. Take the girls and leave. I’ll take care of them.” Ryu commanded, his face was full of seriousness now. His casual attitude from the previous fight was completely gone. Du-Feng could only nod and ran away with each girl under his arms.
“Take care of us? Hahaha who do you think you are? Kill him!” Fang-Da ordered.
Ryu spun upwards and thin brilliant silver beams shot in all directions. These opponents were more experienced and having been caught off guard once, they were prepared.
Most were able to deflect or dodge. The ones that chose to block were gravely injured. The reason been that the meter long Qi blades shot at them were ridiculously sharp, the ones with low grade weapons were completely destroyed.
“Interesting, his Qi blades have an abnormally strong piercing power.” Fang-Da said to himself as he observed. He was in no hurry, as long as ones running away were on ground, his Unearthing Tremor could locate them. Something else caught his interest. Could he have a special body too?

This is the tale of an untalented cultivator who had given up in his dreams of glory to live a normal life. How will his future unfold? ------------------------- My native language is neither English nor Chinese, I am writing a Xianxia novel because I like the genre. I have tried to maintain the chinese names and the form of address but I used the measurements of the international system(meters, grams, etc..) and the hour time(no incense stick, or others). It may spoil it for some but I think it would be easier both for me and the readers. Before you read keep in mind that this is a novel with a slow progress. I don't want to give any spoiler but at least a few chapters will be dedicated to his life in the village.
