《A Modern Day Demon King》* Chapter 34 – Blue Fist

In the murky parts of the city a blue neon sign hangs over a bar that reads, Blue Fist Bar. The bar is mostly full of people who keep to themselves but smell of danger and violence. At the bar, the familiar figure of the scarred man sits at the bar sipping a chilled glass of Jack and Coke.
Before long, another familiar hooded figure appears in the bar doorway. The hooded man politely pulls down his hood to reveal a thin middle-aged man’s face with sharp features and cold dark eyes. The middle-aged killer named Zhū casually takes a seat at the bar and says, “I’ll have a Snakebite.” The bartender nods his head in reply and prepares the fine whiskey with a dash of lemon in a chilled glass. Within seconds, the bartender places the drink onto the counter before moving towards another customer.
Zhū cautiously studies the drink in hand, before even going as far as bringing the drink close to his nose for a whiff. “For god’s sake man, drink it already!” The scarred man grunted in frustration.
Zhū snorts in reply and says, “Peasant, this is what’s kept me alive all these years. Besides it’s the best way to truly enjoy a good whiskey.” Zhū tilts his head back and downs his drink in a single shot, before letting out a gasp of satisfaction at the bitter, but perfect taste.
Zhū places his glass back onto the bar with satisfaction and gestures to the bartender for another glass. Zhū turns towards the scarred man and says, “It’s been some time since we’ve got together, Yì. So please tell me what’s on your mind?”
Yì takes another sip from his glass and says, “I need this to be off the record and your boss can’t know.”

Zhū’s eyes grow cold as he says, “It will depend on what it is, but it will cost you.”
“Fine,” Yì grunts in firm agreement.
Zhū eyes the figure of Yì for a moment before asking, “So, what is that you need?”
“I need you to investigate someone for me,” Yì replied.
“Very well, but it will cost you depending on what exactly it is that you want.”
“I need a thorough investigation done on the target but mostly I want you to keep an eye on the target.”
“What is the identity of my target?”
The two men pause as the bartender returns with drink in hand. The two men only begin to converse as soon as the bartender moves away. Yì cautiously pulls out a single white envelope from his jacket and passes it across the bar towards Zhū.
Zhū opens the envelope to find a single name and photo of the target, Reyn Mephistopheles. Zhū’s eyes widen in recognition of the figure and hesitates for a moment as he remembers his boss’s candid words. However, he also remembered his gut feeling that there was something off about this woman. And his moto in life was that it was better to be safe than sorry. How else had he outlived his enemies and starch opponents?
“Done, now about my pay?” Zhū professionally asked not betraying his personal interest in the target.
“Standard fees and should you find anything, double that amount,” Yì grumbled back.
“Perfect. But if I may ask, why her? There is nothing special about this woman other than being a foreigner,” Zhū curiously asked.
“There’s something off about her,” Yì replied quietly before getting up. “And if your breath a word about this to anyone, you will regret it, Zhū.” And with a final glare, Yì marched away.
Zhū mutters under his breath, “Stone cold faced bastard.” Glancing once more at his target, Zhū crumbles the ball into ash, before downing his drink and heading out the door. The bar scene continues as usual without any notice of the particular transaction. After all, in this type of establishment such transactions were a common sight.

Players will each have a tailor made story much like a tabletop campaign, their choices in all things will have an effect on the game itself even if it is small. Players will have their DNA tested which will allow accurate placement within the old world, in the same general area as their ancestors would have been. Allowing them to chose their starting area from the many races that make up their ancestry. from there they will undergo the Trials, a series of events serving as their entry into adulthood which will start the players off at the age of Thirteen, with every trial completed they will be advanced in age until they are Eighteen, from there they will have the option of staying Eighteen or advancing to their physical age. From there the world is open for them to go where they please, be it becoming a blacksmith, a cook, or a lord, though they will have to earn everything through the proper ways, hard work, and dedication to their roles. After all, one can not show up to a city expecting to be its mayor for nothing.
8 199Lone: The Wanderer [Dropped Version (includes original draft of the rewrite's first volume)]
Nine-to-five. The daily grind. Life. Painful years of school. Working as a slave for some undeserving corporate big-wig. The monotonous life of unemployment. We all experience this in one way or another, and we can all conclude one thing: it's dull. Such a fact rings true even for the fabled Lone Immortus, a powerful nine-tailed Golden Foxkin. However, what would you do if your monotony was suddenly ground to a halt and you were thrown out of your comfort zone along with a young girl forgotten by time? Perhaps you might have done things differently, been more organised, immediately died, gained control of the world in a matter of days, but this is Lone's tale, not yours. Watching two insecure people struggle to survive and find their place in an unfamiliar land just might be enjoyable to witness. Who knows? One thing's for certain: it won't be an easy path for them to tread, and what could possibly be more entertaining than watching people endure hardships and grow? I know of at least eight gods that would answer with, 'Absolutely nothing.' I wonder, after seeing this journey from start to finish, how would you answer? [Goal of 2 chapters per week, the only exceptions being announced breaks or emergencies] A/N: This story is in the middle of a rewrite, so please forgive any noticeable plot holes and wonky chapter numbers. I am working on it every day, so understanding would be greatly appreciated. The new cover art is a courtesy of the very kind and talented ssddx. This novel is a participant in The Writer's Pledge

This story is abandoned and has not been authorized for distribution on any sites but RoyalRoad. Given the Gamer ability after shattering a crystal inside a game, Jon's world is upturned as he is thrown into a life he considered fantasy. Making new enemies and encountering a god, he cannot escape the quest which is forced on him. Different worlds and different situations, can he come out on top? He's neither perfect nor a saint, he is Jon. Welcome to Gamer. This has been dropped, I didn't like the way I forced a few plotpoints and I lost my notes on the story itself. Read below if you want to be spoilered. As far as I recall, he would change race into a higher human after using a spell to overload his mana repeatably until his body forcibly adapts, he would train up his rift usage spell with some better targets than God's Realm because he keeps hitting his stats limit until the cost lowers enough that he can actually grind it. His world is being invaded by multiple worlds, so the god had many backup plans where a lot of people went into their own fantasy settings and came back to defend Earth. Jon never is the strongest one out there, he has to keep grinding and grinding before he gets stronger than the other heroes, and at that point the invasion is nearing the final stretch. Jon's two biggest advantages is that he can keep grinding without hitting a cap he can't evolve, and that even when he is eventually killed. He would have respawned in the nearest 'Safe Zone' after dropping a level and everything he did to gain that level. I also had a bunch of ideas for mini-arcs where he would play in multiple worlds in multiple situations, not that great of an idea in retrospect.
