"Uhh... I'm just fine, dude. Except for a little headache which I usually get when I overuse Mystic, I'm just fine. And besides I know nothing about these stats or anything magic related for that matter." Alec said as he looked up to Jace.
"No, you're not fine. You just said you usually get an headache after using Mystic, do you know how long does one usually lasts?" Jace asked.
"For an hour, at most." Alec drawled before a sudden picture clicked in "... And we have been here for atleast four hours."
"Knew you'd figure that out, atleast." Jace sighed.
Alec quickly pulled up his status screen.

"....Ok... I might be in a little trouble here. But I still didn't get it, what's the matter? it's just a mild headache. I've actually seen much worse. And besides, it was not the first time I've used my extra stat points." Alec said.
"Do you even know what stats actually are?" Jace groaned.
"... Nope."
Jace sighed as he gazed down at the small dust particles dancing in visible sunlight, trying to come up with an explanation. He waited for a minute before finally opening his mouth to the emerald eyed moron.

"Stats define the power of your soul, each time you kill an opponent, your soul gets a portion of their experience. But extra stat points are a whole different things."
"... How so?"
"Extra stat points, are what your own potential generates for you. Every being in this world has a different potential. There are four kinds of potential, that everyone possess: Inferior, Average, Potent and Perfect." Jace said, meeting the gaze of black kitten, "Beings with inferior potential gain one extra stat point every five levels, those with average potential gain one extra stat point every two levels, potent ones gain one per level and finally perfect potential generates four extra stat points per level."
Alec waited for a moment before opening his mouth, ".... And what's the chance of having a perfect potential?"
"It only exist in myths, there are no records of a being that was born with perfect potential."
"....oh?" Alec said with a flabbergasted look on his face.
Jace paused for a moment, gazing at alec, before finally making words out of his mouth, "...And I know that you posses a perfect potential."
"Never knew you could do the basic maths. And you don't look... too surprised?'' Alec said.
"Your existence itself is an enigma for that matter, you use words from a language that I can't comprehend, your knowlege and point of view regarding the things we've seen here is peculiar in it's own way. It's just like taking a list and adding more and more factors to be surprised about, I don't have any energy to do that. Anymore." Jace said as he shifted his position, leaning more heavily against the rough stone wall.
".... But you still haven't told me the crux yet, what are the consequences of putting multiple points at once?"

"Did you not say that this was not your first time adding stat points?''
"I did add them before, it was just to check the check if the mind stat actually affected the intensity of magic attacks, so, I added one point, looked for a centipede, blew it off with blood bullet, calculated the amount of remaining body segments, waited till cooldown and repeat. That's how I found out that mind affected the intensity of magic attacks, the number of remaining segments kept decreasing as the mind stat increased. I levelled up after adding twenty points in this way, so, I decided to hold on rest of the points, in order to test out how the different stat worked but I haven't gotten the right opportunity to do so, guess they'll have to wait. I actually found out a more importan- Oh, I'm sorry, I just got carried a little." Alec said in a embarrassed tone.
Jace just sighed in helplessness, "A little you say? Whatever. There's a difference between adding one point at a time and adding multiple points at once. Your soul can easily process one point at a time, but it get increasingly harder for the soul to process multiple points as it increases the strain on one's soul. And you added TWENTY FUCKING POINTS at once. The moment your soul processes every last bit of these points, you're in for a massive soul collapse."
Alec just paused for a moment before asking, "....What exactly is a 'soul collapse'? By the way it sounds, it doesn't look very pretty."
"And it isn't. Soul collapse is much more excruciating than any of the physical pain. You'll want to pass out but you won't, because there is nothing physically wrong with you. It will be an out of world experience." Jace explained.
"Is it worse than mana starvation?" Alec asked.
Jace sighed as he rubbed his eyes, looking back at Alec, he opened his mouth, "Much worse."
Alec paled for a moment. He still remembered the moment he had suffered from mana starvation. There's no way I am going to make out alive from this. His mind raced, searching for anything, any loophole he could exploit. No no no no no no no no no no... Oh, mana starvation? He felt it as a lapsed memory resurfaced. His legs started shaking. Oh, I can't be fucking serious.
Gazing at Jace, his voice started shaking as he opened his mouth, "How long do I have?"
"It might be coming any moment." Jace replied as he shifted his gaze towards now shaking Alec, "Hey, has it started?"
"Nope. But I wanted to ask you something. What if I am already passed out when my soul collapses?" His voice still shaking.
"It will wake you up."
"And what if I can't?"
Jace squinted his eyes, glaring at the shaking black cat, "What exactly are you thinking?"
A sinister grin surfaced it's way across Alec's face, sending creeps down Jace's spine as the black cat opened his mouth, his legs still trembling, "Ex...peri...ment."

Maker of Fire
On a world where magic kept civilization firmly in the bronze age, the Gods dropped an accountant and a mining engineer to start a political and industrial revolution. They wanted enlightened governance and a fast track to the iron age. They got indoor plumbing, paper airplanes, a cranky queen, and one very grumpy prophet. Dramatis Personae Aylem was a bookkeeping student when she died. The Gods reincarnated her as the greatest mage ever known, born into the ruling class of gigantic, magic-wielding humans. The Gods expect her to conquer the world and introduce double-entry accounting. Though Queen and numerical reformer, world conquest is stalled because everyone is scared of her and she doesn't like war. Emily was a retired engineer when she died. The Gods reincarnated her as one of the enslaved class of small, magicless humans. The Gods expect her to drag the world out of the bronze age. Though she's already recreated matches and wrought iron, introducing technology isn't going well because she was born a slave (oops) and having escaped, wants nothing to do with so-called "civilization." Asgotl was a whale when he died. The Gods reincarnated him as a griffin and expect him to have the same role he played in his previous life: to keep a reluctant prophet from walking off the job. If only they had remembered to tell him about it. Revised update schedule will be once a week on Saturdays, noonish Mountain Time (in North America)

Leveling Up Is Better Than Reality
If you've ever been called a slacker, you know, it's not that you're lazy, it's just that you're not interested. Your values don't allow you to work hard as you wish to live in a heaven-like world where you don't have to do anything. As Gandhi said, ""Be the change you wish to see in the world...'' Wise words indeed. This story's about lazy- I mean an idealist hero named Zellin living in an RPG-like world. I'm going to deem this work as PG-13, but you never know...
