《Fantastical Stapler》Chapter 5: A Kindred Spirit

Two weeks had passed since the incident at the ceremony, The team was quietly doing their jobs. Jake was the only person to notice the change in Sincan.
Jake*: "Just what's going on in that brain of his?"
As he pondered that, Vanessa came into the office, wearing a grim expression.
Vanessa: ".....guys."
The entire office perked up to look at her.
Vanessa: "Kos is coming back..."
A collective sigh was heaved by the entire office.
Moris: "Anybody but her..."
Firil: "She takes the word slacker to another level."
Jake: "...oh....no....."
Sincan*: "No need to worry, you can handle another annoying prick."
And so Kos arrived, She was a Lyclan woman who was short, contrasting with Vanessa's height. wearing a vest with rolled up sleeves and pants.
Kos: "Nobody moved my stuff, right?"
Moris: "Well it's been a year so you can't really blame us.."
Kos: "Damn, I guess I'll actually have to work for today."
Firil: "Maybe try actually working this year?"
Kos: "*Muttering* What's the point if I can get away with it...."
She made her way to the HR department where she worked before seating herself and arranging her work station.
Sincan went over to greet her during break, and so he could get a read on her personality.
Kos: "So you're the new guy?"
Sincan: "I've been here for a month now, can we stop calling me that?"
Kos: "Let me think about it.....No."
Sincan*: "Just amazing, feels like I've been dealt a bad hand."
Kos: "You do your thing, I'll do mine and we'll both try not to bother each other. I'm not the social type."
Sincan: "Fine by me as long as you keep up your end of the bargain."

Sincan felt as thought Kos was one thing he could cross of his list for potential annoyance, now only if Jake was as cooperative. When the day ended, the employees went home.
Sincan was walking home when he realized Kos was following along with him.
Sincan: "hehe....How funny, I guess we live next to each other?"
Kos: "Yeah....funny ain't it?"
They were walking for a bit before encountering Charlie the lyclan. Sincan forgot to ask Charlie where he got his wheel last time so before getting home, he decided to check up on him. Next to Charlie was a tall Scalin woman who was dressed in normal office worker clothes.
Sincan*: "Maybe a girlfriend? doesn't matter."
Charlie: "If it isn't the cheater and the slacker."
Sincan: "Fair according to the rules, unless you want you take it up with Firil?"
Charlie: "oh.....no thanks..."
Kos: "Oh Sherry, nice to finally see someone I like."
Sincan: "The others wouldn't appreciate that."
Sincan*: "Even though I don't like them either."
Kos: "Honesty is the best policy."
Sherry: " Sorry Kos but I'm a little too busy right now, heading over to a construction site."
Kos: "Well when you're done with that can you help me with some documents?"
Sherry: "Sure thing, Kos. Anything for a friend. *Muttering* So I'll go to the meeting and then...."
Charlie looks visibly disgusted at this but decides not to say a word.
Charlie*: "She wouldn't listen to me even if her life depended on it..."
Sincan grimaces a little at the display.
Sincan*: "Wait, why do i care?"
Charlie: "We've got work to do so we'll be on our way now."
Sincan: "Before that, Where did you get that wheel?"

Charlie: "Near the river on the south side, there's koplers that swim by, pretty sure you need a license though."
Sincan*: "Okay good."
Sincan: "Yeah, see you later."
Charlie and Sherry walked away as Sincan stood there.
Sincan: "Now i just have to get a license."
Kos: "I've got a license. As long as you're willing to get me one."
Sincan: "Fine, you got yourself a deal, I don't want to waste my time so let's make our way over there."
----
At the bank of the river, Sincan was searching for the ganvers who could use trick magic.
Sincan: "This is harder than i thought."
Kos: "Be sure not to slack off."
Sincan*: "Rich, coming from you."
They waited a while before a Kopler appeared. Kopler's were small creatures who had hands but no legs, instead replaced with a tail. They had sharp teeth and pounced on their enemies to prey on them. They had a cute face that betrayed their nature and a mouth that seemed smaller than it actually was. It's said that the longer the tail, the stronger it was.
Sincan used the fishing rod in order to bait it out but it resisted. The creature was about the size of an elbow. It gripped on and refused to go. Kos did not try and help Sincan, she seemed to be deep in thought.
Sincan: "A little help!"
Kos: "Sure, i guess."
She raised her hand and the stone around the river assembled into a small crystal pillar, the size of a Lyclan sitting down. Sincan felt as though he was filled with energy and easily took out the Kopler which surprisingly had another one hanging off of it, a smaller one.
Kos perked up at the sight of the child.
Kos: "Let that one go, It's a kid."
Sincan: "Are you kidding me, no! We've been here too long and I'm going to get it as a wheel."
Kos: "Sincan, don't test me. I'm the one with the license, now let it go!"
So Sincan obliged. the smaller one was let go and the bigger one was killed by Kos. Sincan thought he heard her apologizing to the Kopler, but he must've been mistaken.
Kos: "Next time, when i say something, you obey. Understood?"
Sincan had a glare on his face but slowly he spoke.
Sincan: "...Understood."
Kos left Sincan at the river bank. Sincan sighed heavily before releasing the Force magic he put on the Kopler child.
Sincan*: "Of course I'm not going to let it go just because you told me to. I won't waste my time with that."
He killed the Kopler child but made sure it was quick and painless. He then buried it so that it'd have somewhat of a peaceful death. He was not a monster after all. He was just repaying the world in kind.

Ars Magica
Our vision comes back into focus. Our eyes, while being able to perceive the immediate surroundings, still leave us with our minds uncomprehending towards what is actually occurring. Sure, there are definitive things that we can focus on, like the fact that we're either out upon the open sea or the open ocean, there not being much of a difference with no land in sight, as well as the fact that we appear to be upon a haphazardly constructed metal boat, whose seams are barely able to keep a hold of themselves in the crashing waves. However, that does not let us understand what exactly is causing the waves in the first place. If we were to rewind time, we'd find ourselves upon a calm sea under a peaceful sky with the only difference, being a small whirlpool that would be the precursor towards this uproar around the boat. Lightning flashes in the sky, with no clouds being near, and anyone actually manning the boat has either died towards the cause of the smashing tides in the first place, or are fighting amongst the flashes of lightning, all while trying not to become devoured, demolished, and utterly decimated by the beast roiling in the whirling waves. To better understand exactly what is happening here, there is one singular event that needs to be understood, that needs to be explained, and that is the arrival of a creature named Dave. Stepping back from current events and going towards this creature's first appearance in the world, we begin to hear the sound of water slowly dripping across rocky ground. The cavern is utterly silent except for this one constant, its cause feeding channels downwards, sloping towards cracks in the rubble along the floor from broken stalagmites and stalactites. And there, lying on top of something which had fallen over recently, judging from its cracks, is a person, the creature named Dave. His form is fast asleep, either from the impact or from an intoxication, judging from the smell upon its breath. A bright light suffuses into it for a second, giving life towards the pale skin, before it slowly dies down back to the comfortable black of the cave that it's within. Before this moment in time, Dave did not exist in the physical world. At least, not in the reality that he finds himself born into. We do not know whether or not his existence is simply a cosmic joke, or something that is being played out on purpose. All that we do know, is that one moment, the body was not in the cave, and simply formed in the next. The actual earliest time that we know Dave exists, is the interpolation of the memories of J-209, which we'll begin looking into shortly to gain context towards the coming narrative that is being written and hastily trying to keep itself written. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Warning: This story has several things which might turn its readers away. The first is that this story has shifting points of perspective. Don't worry about that previous sentence too much though, as the main character will always have a first person perspective associated with them. However, any other character from which we're viewing the story from will either be in third-person, as we are not necessarily in their shoes at the moment, or in first person, given that the narrator is an actual physical presence within the story. For the most part, chapters will be self-contained with their perspectives, so there will not be an abundance of switching perspectives within the same chapter. The most that an average reader would have to worry about is the fact that perspectives can switch between chapters. The second thing is that the main character is a bit on the 'special' side of things. He's not exactly mentally there most of the time, so there will be some times that his personality or his thoughts do not actively align with his actions. The third, and final thing of importance, is the fact that past the first couple of chapters, nothing has been planned in advance. There are arcs and plots that I want to do, want to implement, or have already been set into motion from our main character's introduction to the world, but the method that I use for my story writing and generating leads towards a bit more random chance being enabled. Basically...there's a lot of dice rolling behind the scenes. To not complicate the story further than its regular LitRPG elements, the rolls will not be publicly available. However, there will be knowledge within the author's notes on whether or not there were positive or negative critical rolls that had occurred within the chapter. You have been warned. Updates: Mondays & Fridays (Schedule permitting) Typical Chapter Length: (2,000-3,000)

The Discarded
The Umbrae Lunae existed before man, beautiful abominations birthed in the nightmares of mad gods. They wait for humanity to misstep, for the angels to look away. For the moment when they can cloak the world in moon shadows once again. But even horrors have children. Even nightmares must feed. One child, unlike the others, finds his way to a school for young abominations. Will he be a sheep cast before the wolves, or a terror that wears the skin of wool to entice the wolf close? The flesh of his body was his only coin, strips cut to pay debts that never ended. Everyone has scars, stories in a life led, lessons learned, and licks taken. Luminous bodies touched by darkness. There are a cursed few that are the opposite, black shadows consumed by scars, twisted minds devoured by diseased hungers, bodies tortured misshapen works of gouged flesh, silver lines of blade thin cuts, ragged tears of teeth and glass. For them, the scars are marks of homecoming, the mangled wasteland the only place they feel at peace. Hell is a place. It's made of concrete, steel and glass. It's the sounds of starving kids crying themselves to sleep, huddling into small balls as creepers come and take their due of innocence and tender meat. It's eating rotten food and carrying ticks in your hair. It’s having no one and nothing while surrounded by everything. It's the life of a street kid. What abomination was birthed in the corrupt womb of man’s cast-off shit? Pretty people don't know the power of ugly. They can't see the strength in a broken soul or the power in a calloused heart. Those secrets are for the discarded alone. Only the broken understand the grace of darkness. The blessed folds that hide scars and tears, the protection of its concealing umbra.
