《The Planes Walkers》11. Spirits Aid

Night time would never have been so dark in Calbar. Even the cloudy skies still somehow produced moonlight. Lonava was completely dark. The only way Jet managed to follow Heyvl was the subtle light his Element gave off. He kept it directly behind Heyvl so it wouldn't give them away as they slowly made their approach to the camps of the Soul army.
Heyvl told Jet it would be too dangerous to stick around near the city limits when a decent sized army kept watch. A campfire or any other form of light would have caused a small group of the Soul army to investigate. Heyvl seemed pretty stern on believing that. Jet wasn't quite sure if a campfire would be distinguished from a house light, but he trusted Heyvl.
It was a slow path to the army's encampment. Heyvl and Jet took their time to be unseen in the darkness. Eventually, Jet stopped his Elemental aura because of the several hundred torches that lit up the Soul army's site.
It was unavoidable. Jet wasn't sure why, but the Empire had sent enough people to surround the Lonava capital in search for one Spirit Elementalist. Heyvl believed they wouldn't send enough to have a thick campsite, so it should be easy for him and Jet to slip through.
"They sent this many men for one Spirit Elementalist, huh?" Heyvl asked quietly as the two of them approached the back of a large purple tent.
Jet hated seeing the color purple. He realized now why that was the color they decided on. The color of souls.
"I think this is ridiculous," Jet admitted back to Heyvl.
Heyvl shot him a quick nod. Jet wasn't sure why the Emperor would go to such lengths to capture him. There must be something more to it.
A muffled conversation came from the tent that the two stood by. Through the thick tarp and the constant marching of other Imperials, it was hard to make out what they were saying. Jet figured it probably wasn't good anyways. He didn't want to know what evil things they were spouting.

Heyvl motioned for Jet to follow him. The two of them slowly walked around the side of the tent. It was a narrow dark path with a few crates that almost closed the path. Jet assumed they were filled with supplies.
"I think the camp is only a path wide," Heyvl whispered as he peeked over the crates.
Jet also peeked over. There didn't seem to be any opening in the soldiers patrolling. It wouldn't be an easy task to cross to the other side. He watched as Heyvl was trying to assess on how to sneak passed. Jet then looked to his hands. Maybe he could use his Element.
Jet's hands lit up with the pale green aura. Heyvl looked over curiously. Jet wasn't sure if he could enter the world he had been in before to cross the path, or even if he could use his Element to distract the soldiers. All he knew is he'd have to try something.
After a few seconds of trying to gather courage, Jet decided to stand up straight. He lifted his arms with his hands pointed out towards the path. The aura began to swirl out towards the dirt. Within seconds, the aura began to appear all across the path. Jet was shocked, because he wasn't sure what he would do with his Element.
The Element seemed to call to him. Jet reached out and as if a spirit appeared and grabbed his arm, he was moved across the path. Jet then looked towards Heyvl. He commanded the Element to also grab Heyvl. The green aura did the same thing to him.
The soldiers around were shouting out. They didn't see Jet or Heyvl, but they saw the Element. Jet and Heyvl took cover behind some tents on the opposite side as they watched the soldiers begin searching the area for the Elementalist that brought the aura.
"We have to hurry now!" Heyvl exclaimed to Jet.

He and Jet began to leave the north side of the camp. Jet looked back as his Element he brought began to disappear into nothing. He wondered how else he could use his powers.
"There!" one soldier shouted. A light was cast over Jet and Heyvl as they ran. They had been spotted.
"Is that the Spirit Elementalist?!" another soldier asked.
Jet watched as purple aura began to spill out from around the tents. Some of the soldiers had to have been Soul Elementalists. It made Jet think about the Emperor. He clenched his fists. They burst into Spirit Elemental aura.
Instinctively, Jet grabbed Heyvl's wrist. He then saw his Element cloud around him. Jet then began to move incredibly faster. Every step he took felt as if he was taking dozens more. Jet felt like he was almost floating with the speed of the spirits he witnessed in the Plane.
Soldiers began to close in on horses, using their own Elements to aid their speed. Jet couldn't believe they were all moving that fast. The more he looked to the soldiers, the more he began to lose focus on his Element.
"Look out, Jet!" Heyvl managed to say. Jet looked back to Heyvl and could see his eyes squinting, but his free hand was pointing forward. Jet slowed down till his Element faded. He and Heyvl tumbled to the ground. Jet then realized what Heyvl was pointing at. It was a cliff.
The two of them tumbled and fell off the edge of the cliff, where all the horses immediately stopped. The cliff side was steep enough to stop the soldiers, but it didn't stop Jet from continually rolling down. At some point, he felt his backpack rip from his back and fly away from him. Jet kept his eyes closed until the pain from hitting the cliff side stopped.
He must have blacked out for a few seconds, because he opened his eyes to see Heyvl yelling at him.
"Jet! Jet! Wake up, they're moving down the cliff."
Jet blinked a few times. The only way he could tell it was Heyvl was the contrast from the sky. He looked over to the direction he believed the cliff was. Torch light flashed back and forth as soldiers began to descend the cliff face carefully.
"Come on Jet!"
Jet could feel pain on his arms and chest. He didn't think they were bad because he couldn't feel any blood. He managed to scramble to his feet and slowly follow Heyvl. Heyvl was holding onto his wrist, guiding him. He wondered how Heyvl could see so well in the darkness. Jet was glad for it because if he had to use his Element, they'd be an easier target.
"We have to lose them."
"Where are we going?"
"Any where we can continue without them following," Heyvl replied.
Jet wondered how far safety was. He didn't feel good. He wanted to just sit and rest, but he knew he would fall unconscious and possibly be killed by the soldiers from the Empire.
"Don't you go using your Element again, Jet. Along with what you did up there, that fall would've taken a serious toll on you."
"I-I'm fine," Jet replied, trying to stay standing.
His eyes started to feel heavier with every step. Heyvl's grip became tighter on Jet's wrist as it gave a bit more resistance.
"You don't look fine," Heyvl admitted.
Jet tried to respond, but he didn't even have the energy to speak. Heyvl noticed that he attempted to say something.
"You are a handful, Elementalist," Heyvl chuckled as he turned and picked up Jet in his arms. Jet passed out.
