《Double Trouble》12. Melody (Part 1)

Melody took a long shower, lost in thought over what to do, and what she could’ve done or said to avoid the earlier situations. But it didn't matter now. No matter how hard she tried or wished, she'd never been able to change the events or go back in time to change things.

Melody plopped onto her yellow-orange bed and buried her face in the pillow, getting into a fetal position and clutching the pillow tight. She threw her pillow across the room, causing it to hit the coffee table and knock the remote control off. The remote fell on the floor and hit the power button, which activated the TV. Melody adjusted herself straight and glanced at the TV that aired a commercial about phones.

"—my brand-new Wish App!" The voice echoed through the television. "Just type whatever you'd like on your phone, and it'll come true!"

When the ad ended, Melody got up to turn off the TV. She looked down at her yellow phone in her pockets and searched for the app in the store.

No way, could it be real? It didn't seem real, too ridiculous even. But what if it came true? Melody wondered if she could change events with the help of this so-called 'Wish App'?

"Are there no limits to the wishes I can ask for?" Melody wondered as she read the information about it in the app store. "Heck, yeah!"

She tapped the install button and pop-ups appeared, which discussed the terms and agreements on its use. Melody scrolled down, rolling her eyes, and pressed yes.

Why would they bother putting that kind of stuff on there, anyway? Nobody reads that, not that I’m aware.

Once she settled that, Melody stopped to think about her potential wish. A light bulb clicked in her brain as she thought up an idea of what she wanted. Melody typed it down and pressed send. Now all she had to do was wait. She wasn't sure if the wish became instant or if it depends on the request. She didn't want to wait that long, however. Eventually, Melody grew tired of waiting and plopped back down on her bed. She buried herself in the covers and drifted off to sleep, hoping the wish would come true and answer her pleas in time of need.

Time had passed by, as a shadow emerged from the bottom of the bed. The shadow formed a human figure for a body, and glowing red eyes illuminated from the depths. It blinked and walked over toward the sleeping Melody.

"Hello there, are you the one who summoned me?" It spoke up.

Melody shot her eyes up and straightened herself out of bed upon seeing the figure in front of her. She covered her mouth and tried not to scream, waking everyone else up. Upon further inspection, it looked just like Stanley, the only exception being the red eyes.

"Whoa, is that you?" Melody questioned and pointed.

"I think so."

"But that doesn't mean you have to act creepy beside my bed."

"Oh, sorry about that." The man moved aside and lowered his head.

"So, are you the one I summoned and wished upon?" Melody inspected him. "You look the part, except for the eyes. But that’s fine; it's easier to tell you apart from the original."

"So, it is you, then. What should I do with my eyes, though?" He asked.

"Let’s say that your eyes are sleepy and dry, or something like that."

"Okay. So, what should I be called then?"

"How about something simple? Jordan sounds good, so let's go with that."

"Oh, alright, then." Jordan nodded in agreement. "So, can you tell me what you sent me here for?"

"The answer is simple; I need you to talk to a friend of mine." Melody explained. "Her name is Hilary." She took out her phone and picked out a picture of her to show to him.

"She looks pretty." Jordan cooed, leaning over to get a closer look at the picture.

"Now, about your doppelganger Stanley," Melody continued, putting the phone away. "I don't think he deserves someone like her." She clenched her fists. "I need you to win her heart over."

"I see, so what should I do?"

"Whatever you can, I don't care, as long as those two don't get together as a 'couple.'"

Jordan saluted toward her. "Don't worry, leave it to me." He glanced over at the windows. "Hey, isn't that the guy out there?"

Melody turned and noticed Stanley walk outside the apartment all by himself. Her eyes widened in shock and fear.

What could he be doing out there? And why is he alone?
