《Double Trouble》10. Hilary (Part 4)

ilary jogged outside, trying to keep her eyes peeled. Everywhere she turned, the people around her behaved oddly. Not to mention, they all looked like Stanley, but had the same eyes as Jordan.
Her nerves caught up with her, and the wind pressed against her skin. The chilly wind brushed against her as she wrapped her arms around herself and shivered softly. Wasn't the weather supposed to be warmer than this? Why did it get colder around nighttime? Did Hilary get it from stares that peered around in every corner or because of the weather?
A clearing of the throat snapped Hilary out of her thoughts as she turned to see one of the Stanley lookalike's approach her and try to get her attention.
"Excuse me, are you lost?" The person asked sincerely.
That made Hilary realize again what she came out here for, but didn’t know what’s happening. Still, it would be rude to ignore this man, but would it be a good idea to tell him the truth, or should she play it safe and lie instead?
"Well, yeah." Hilary finally responded. "Do you know where the boss that works at The Purple Spoon is at?"
"Oh, you mean Jordan?" He guessed. "He left not too long ago, so no."
Jordan? Wasn't the boss—?
"My name is also Jordan." He spoke up.
"Huh?"
"And those guys over there are also named Jordan." He pointed at some other folks, who waved towards her.
A bottomless pit resonated inside her stomach. This got uncomfortable fast. "Is everyone around here named Jordan?" Hilary questioned.
"What do you mean?"
"Well, I'm also looking for…” She hesitated. “Well, have you seen a guy named Stanley?"
The Jordan's stopped what they were doing and turned their heads toward her. "Stanley?" They all said in unison, in a monotone, soulless voice.

Hilary stepped back. "Uh, would you look at the time?" She checked her watch. "I gotta get going." She ran off without looking back.
"It's her." One of the Jordans pointed out. "Master Melody wants us to get her." The Jordans ran out and chased after her.
Hilary's heart pounded like crazy as she ran behind a wall in the alleyway to avoid contact and lose sight of the Jordan's. Thankfully, they disappeared from her view, and she sighed in relief. Her throat became dry, and her legs shook like jelly from all the running she had to do.
What could've happened to the other residents of the town? Who's this Master Melody that the clones keep bringing up? Why does that name sound familiar to me? Hilary thought about the scenario when something clicked.
"My journal, of course!" Hilary deduced.
She turned, about to run off, but bumped into someone . She fell to the floor and rubbed her aching sides. Hilary looked up, only to find someone standing there, helping her get up from the ground so she could dust herself off.
"Are you alright?" The man asked.
"Yeah, thanks..." Hilary blinked. She came across a person with blue eyes as opposed to red.
"Stanley? Is that you? Where were you? I've been looking everywhere for..."
"You have?" 'Stanley' pointed at himself and questioned. "Sorry, I got caught up in some stuff."
"But I thought you were in the room with—?"
"What room?"
"Never mind, but have you found anything yet?"
"Well, I got this." 'Stanley' handed Hilary over a journal. Hilary inspected the pages and found them to be blank.
Hilary scratched her head. "Is this supposed to be mine? What's going on?"
"Listen." 'Stanley' spoke up. "You best be careful. I wouldn't want anything bad to happen to you."

"Ok?" Hilary arched an eyebrow and wrinkled her nose. Her head peered down at the book briefly. "Before you go, there's something I need to tell you. Something's been going on and—" Hilary looked up and saw that he was no longer there. "Where did you go now?"
Hilary looked down and noticed a small blue contact lens on the ground. Her mind went crazy, wondering what was going on. Her eyes drifted off as she lost control of her body, causing it to fall.
