《Double Trouble》9. Jordan (Part 4)

Jordan sneaked behind Hilary when he found her in his sights until they made it back to the apartment. Hilary moped over to the trash can and dropped an item inside before heading back inside. Jordan walked over to the trash bin and inspected the contents inside. To his surprise, he found a small pink journal book. He reached in and took the book out, finding it to be a diary.

Wasn't this the book Hilary had in her room? Why would she throw this away? Jordan's hands trembled as he clutched it tight, feeling tempted to open and check it out himself. He slouched over to the page, flipping it open and reading the contents of what's inside. There had to be a reason for her deciding to do that, right?

"20XX: It was a lovely spring day at Bleakburn town. I heard it had a different name, but it got changed to something else entirely. I'm uncertain what the name was initially, but I got a feeling that I don't want to know either. Today I got a new job applied to a market called The Purple Spoon. Maybe I could get enough part-time money to achieve my dream and become an author and a travel agent.

“20XX: I've been working for quite a while now, and I already made lots of friends, including a brunette that helps me out from time to time. I can't recall her name or what other features she had, but I miss her and want to see her again.

“20XX: Months after employment, I met this blue-eyed, black-haired guy. I also met this other guy, who looked like him, but nobody else noticed, so I kept my mouth shut."

“20??: I forgot to keep track and write this in the diary, and I'm not sure how much time had passed since my watch and calendars are—"

Jordan looked down and realized that there were missing pages in the book. Why was that the case? He also remembered that Hilary mentioned the person she met had blue eyes, not red. It occurred to him that maybe—

"A-ha, there you are!" A voice jolted Jordan out of his thinking. He turned to find Stanley standing there with his hands crossed over his chest. "What do you think you're doing here?"

Jordan stammered and hesitated before responding. "I was just taking in the fresh air." Jordan placed his hands behind his back and looked at the apartment.

"You know, I don't believe you." Stanley pointed. "And what's behind your back?"

"Oh, this?" Jordan took out the book and waved it around Stanley's face. "Do you want to see for yourself?" He asked. Before giving him time to answer, Jordan tossed it in Stanley's direction, landing on his hands.

Stanley stared at the book. "What the—? Where did—?"

"Why don't you open it to find out?" Jordan offered.

Stanley hesitated at first, but opened the book to find out what he meant. His eyebrows arched as he skipped through the pages to read the remaining ones that weren't torn or covered in sweat.

"20!!: Am I dreaming? Did I pass out, or have I been stuck in some loophole? Why, why am I the only one who's self-aware of what’s going on? Why is this happening to me? What did I do to deserve this?! I was thinking of testing this little theory out by trying to write this down and then do something dangerous myself, but I'm afraid of what might happen if it goes awry and wrong. I’m scared. If this is the last, I write of this diary, then—"
