《Double Trouble》7. Jordan (Part 4)

The two drove off, with Jordan in the passenger seat and Melody driving on the road. They stayed silent for a while as Jordan rested his hand on his chin, staring at the window.

“Hey, do you think that'll work?” Jordan glanced and asked, breaking the silence.

“I hope it does,” Melody replied, not taking her eyes off the road. “But what we got to do is lie low so no one gets any more suspicious.”

“I see.” Jordan looked back at the window and the scenery outside. “So, where are we heading?”

“The Piers.”

“Isn’t that far away?”

“I know a shortcut that can get us there in no time,” Melody smirked as her driving got more reckless while taking the shortcut. Jordan held his mouth, trying not to vomit in the car or fall out.

By the time they got to their destination, dawn already struck, nobody else appeared by the docks. Melody and Jordan got out of the car, opened the trunk, and took out the body bags to toss into the salty waters. They watched as the bags bobbed and weaved before eventually sinking below.

“There we go.” Melody clasped her hands and brushed herself off. “Let’s hurry and head back to—”

“What do you think you’re doing?” A voice called out to them.

The two stopped and turned to see another officer getting out of a car of his own.

“Um, can we help you?” Jordan asked.

“What do you think you’re doing?” The man inquired, walking over to them. “You’re not supposed to be here, weren’t you called in to check at some other location?”

Beads of sweat rolled down on the back of Jordan’s neck, making it hot and sweaty. “Um, well...” He started.

“Keep it quiet. I’ll handle this,” Melody whispered. She turned to the other guy, lowering the hat so the guy couldn’t see her face entirely. “The boss called us and wanted us to check and examine some specific areas.” She pointed at the pier. “This is one of them; once we finish the rest, we’ll report this to the boss.”

The officer tapped his foot and scratched his chin. “Really? But why would he—?”

“Are you questioning the boss?” Melody tempted him.

“No, not at all. If that’s what the boss said, then carry on.” The person walked away in the opposite direction. Melody and Jordan waited for him to get in his car and drive away before continuing their mission.

“Nice, that was a close one.” Jordan complimented as he slipped into the passenger seat.

“Yeah, I’ll say.” Melody went over to the driver’s seat, turned on the ignition, and took the wheels. “Hang on.”

“Wait, at least let me put on my seatbelts!”

Melody slammed on the gas pedal and drove off. Jordan clutched onto the seats and squinted his eyes, bracing himself. “Can’t you slow down a bit?” Jordan pleaded.

“As I said, we need to hurry back to the—”

“Wait, stop the car!” Jordan peeked through the windows and pointed at a familiar face.

Melody jammed on the brakes, causing the car to jolt and jump. “What? Why?”

“Look over there; it’s Hilary!” He exclaimed. “I wonder if she finished her errands.”

“Ok, so what are you going to do about it?” Melody asked, arching her eyebrows.

Jordan unclipped his seatbelt. “You go on ahead; I’ll catch up with you later.” He opened the car door and started heading out. “I’m going to talk to her again.”

“Wait, do you know where we’re meeting up?” Melody questioned.

“The Willow View, right?”

“That’s correct. Better hurry before you know who leaves your sights.”

“Oh, that’s right!”

“Hello there.” Jordan ran over and called out to get Hilary’s attention once again.

Hilary turned around, placing her hand on her hip. “Oh, another police guy?”

Jordan looked down and realized he didn’t change his disguise. Nevertheless, he still rolled with it. “Uh, you live near those apartments, right?” He pointed and asked.

Hilary nodded in response. “Why do you ask?”

“We took care of a problem nearby recently. We wanted to let you know.”

“I see, well, then thank you for letting me know,” Hilary said, her face lit up.

“You’re welcome,” Jordan replied as his face flushed light red.

“Hey, do I know you?” Hilary pondered, leaning over.

“Um, I don’t recall.” Jordan lied, shaking his head. “By the way, you look rather nice today.”

“Thanks, although I don’t think so myself.” She muttered the last part to herself. “I should finish my errands before it gets too dark out.” Hilary turned and was about to leave.

“You should go for a quick walk or get a light snack before going home,” Jordan suggested.

“I’ll think about it after I do my errands.” Hilary glanced at him and replied before walking away in the opposite direction.

Jordan tipped his hat and left the other way, with his head held high, feeling that he did a better job communicating with her than the last time.

Jordan strolled along, heading toward the Willow View apartment complex. There, he finally met up with Melody. He was about to wave to her, but when he walked closer, his peripheral vision noticed a familiar figure that looked like him: Stanley. Jordan rushed behind a wall and peeked his head out, watching the two talk to one another.

“Okay, if you say so,” Stanley said, scratching the back of his head. “Thanks for helping out on the unexpected turmoil, officer.”

“My pleasure,” Melody replied coolly. She leaned closer and smirked at him. “So, what do you plan on doing now?” She asked.

“I think I’ll go to bed.” Stanley yawned, appearing to be unaware of her antics. He walked away and didn’t look back.

Jordan squinted his eyes and glared at the man as he headed up the stairs toward his room. Just you wait because soon, I’ll make it so you’ll regret messing with me.

When it was safe to proceed, Jordan got out of his hiding spot and took off his disguise. Melody did the same thing.

“Hey, Jordan.” Melody greeted him while flipping her hair. “You sure did a great job on the flirting, huh?”

“You think so?” Jordan asked. “Wait, how did you know? I thought you weren’t there—”

“I just assumed, that’s all.” Melody brushed it off. “Anyway, excellent work so far. Take your break, I’ll go do more important stuff.”

“But why won’t you tell me—?”

“Later, when the time comes.” Melody winked. “For now, relax and rest.”

“Alright, do be careful then.” Jordan nodded and sighed. He opened the doors to the apartment and headed upstairs to his room while Melody stood there, watching him leave before continuing her ‘duties.'
