《Rise of the Lich!》Chapter 7 - Leaving the Dungeon*

“Sigh, I'm finally finished. How long did it take me to read all of those books? Two weeks? It's hard to tell since I'm deep underground.” (Sirius)
…
Fuck, I was talking again, wasn't I? I really have to be more careful from now on. Anyway, I have finally read all those books down here and while it took me a lot of time, it doesn't really matter. It's not like I have anything better to do after all. Also, I’m not going to run out of time anyway.
Reading those books gave me a total of 219 KNW by the way. I also learned elementary Dark Magic and elementary Necromancy!
I'm particularity excited about Necromancy, because I can make myself a companion now! Having a minion should proof very helpful.
I stand up and walk towards the skeleton of Sirius. I hold my hand above him and start chanting.
“Rise, my minion and follow my commands: Summon Skeleton!”
Black magic leaves my fingertips and encircles the skeleton on the ground. Several seconds pass without anything happening and then my undead minion finally stands up!
“Mwahaha! I welcome you to this world little one!” (Sirius)
“…”
“Mwahaha! Seems like you are speechless in front of me, huh? Do no worry little one, I shall be a fair master!” (Sirius)
“…”
“…? Oi, can you talk?” (Sirius)
“…”
“Can you understand me?” (Sirius)
“…”
“CAN YOU DO ANYTHING?!” (Sirius)
My minion stands up and starts to dance.
…
Let's eat this guy.
Well, looks like creating my own minions isn't going to work after all. I even went so far and role-played as an evil overlord. Laughing like this really felt unpleasant and made me cringe, so let's never do this again.
After gulping down the last bone, I notice that the skeleton was wearing a ring.
Ring of greater Mana Storage This ring can be used as a Manastone. Capacity: 100.000 Mana
Now that's incredible useful and useless at the same time.
Items that are able to storage mana are used in huge rituals and magic devices that need more mana than a single mage can hold. They can also be sold for a great amount of gold, but I really don't think I'll be able to sell anything anytime soon...
I guess I can make a soul stone out of this ring? I wonder how many souls I have to use in order to fill this stone, it's mana capacity is pretty grand. Looks like I did anything I can do down here, let's leave this dungeon.

To be honest I'm pretty disappointed.
If I wasn't lucky enough to encounter Yuna I don't think this trip would have been worth it. I guess I was able to learn Necromancy and Dark Magic, which usually is pretty hard since books that involve this types of magic are forbidden everywhere, but since I have a Frost attribute my progress in those two magic arts is going to be rather slow compared to Frost Magic.
I guess you could also argue that I got a shit ton of Knowledge, but I still have no idea what this stuff is good for.
*sigh*
Anyway, let's leave and get some fresh air, even though I don't breathe any...
I go back into the corridor and take the right way this time, which leads me to the teleporter out of here. I step into the teleportation circle and wait a few seconds. A bright light blinds me as I'm teleported back up to the first floor. Now let's search fo-
“I think we should go back guys, if we keep advancing we may encounter something dangerous!” (Female voice)
“Tch. Come on! We are still on the first floor! Everything’s alright here!” (Male voice)
“No one of us is even level 50! we are barely able to kill stronger skeletons without losing any health!” (Female Voice)
“Tria is right Paul, let's get out of here!” (Second male Voice)
Hm?
Tria and Paul? I know those kids! They are the son and daughter of the blacksmith in our village! And the third voice belongs to Greg if I'm not mistaking. He used to be my daughters boyfriend. Let’s greet them.
I walk towards the voices and soon find the three kids. All of them are around 13 – 15 years old.
“Hey kids! How are guys doing?” (Sirius)
“““EH?!””” (All kids)
They seem pretty shocked meeting me here. Well, I would be surprised to find my girlfriends father inside a dungeon as well.
“Did this bonehead just talk?” (Paul)
“Bonehead? Really? That's just rude, Paul! I wonder how old man Rob is going to react if I tell him that.” (Sirius)
“It did! And it knows my name?! What the hell!” (Paul)
“Oi! Didn't Linda tell you not to curse!?” (Sirius)
“It even knows my mothers name! Fuck let's get him” (Paul)
Paul rushes towards me with a small short sword, or a big dagger in his hands. I don't really want to kill those kids but I guess I have no option if they attack me, right? I wonder what child Souls taste like.

“Rip the flesh off my enemies bones: Ice Shards!” (Sirius)
A few ice shards fly towards Paul and he tries to deflect them with his Sword. Why would he do that? To look cool I guess since it would be a lot easier to just dodge them. Needless to say, the Ice shards piece right though his sword, shatter it and rip right through his skin into his flesh. He falls to the ground, still breathing to my surprise.
“Paul! God, damn it, I command you, waters of this world! Follow my plead: Water ball!” (Tria)
Water magic is useless, you know... Trust me I used it once before.
The water ball smashes against me and barely does anything
You took 12 Damage!
Yeah this is not going to work against me. Let’s make sure she won't try anything else, I don’t really want to get wet.
“First Commitment: Cold Chains!” (Sirius)
Chains wrap round her and seal her mana off. She falls to the ground, not able to carry the weight of those chains. Only one person left.
Huh?
Greg is on the ground pissing himself and begging me to not hurt him. I get a bit mad before the rage fuels my hate. Hm? Why did I get mad? Maybe because the guy my daughter was in love with is a coward?
Well let's kill him.
I can try some of my new magic on him.
“Darkness shall consume your flesh! Blackening!” (Sirius)
I cast this spell and black particles appear around Greg and wrap themselves around him. He screams in pain as they start eating his flesh. After 2 minutes or so he stops screaming, dead.
I finish the other off as well by using another round of Ice Shards. Now shall I eat their souls or store it? They are all very young so I probably won't get much EXP from them anyway. Alright let's store them.
“You shall never find salvation. Soul Shackle!” (x3)
After binding them to this world I absorb the souls into my ring.
You filled the ring with souls! Progress: 2%
…
Well, I guess I'm going to need many souls to fill this big ass ring! Where should I go now though? And where would I get so many souls to fill this ring?
Hm, now that I think about it, why not attack the village I came from? Since this is a pretty peaceful region the Guards are only as strong as I was before dying, and mostly even weaker. Also, since nobody usually bothers with this dungeon the strongest guy in this village is only some Rank D adventurer. I should be able to take him on. There are about 30 Man, 24 Woman and 19 children in this small village if I'm not mistaking.
I should be able to fill the ring with all those souls. Yeah let's start preparing an attack at this village!
Haha, I'm really starting to feel like some evil lord now! Though I wouldn’t call myself evil. Just, curious.
That's a good thing, right? Well it doesn't really matter.
First things first I'll have to make sure no one can escape when I attack. I want every single soul! I wonder if I can use create Ice somehow to rise a great wall around the village? I have plenty of mana after all. The only problem is I have to find a way to rise this wall instantly since they will be suspicious if random pieces of wall just start to appear out of nowhere.
Also, I should probably go back and get some more skeletons from the dungeon. I can use them to deal with the weak enemies. The Summon Skeleton spell lasts for 6 hours because of all this Intelligence I have, so using a bunch of skeletons will be very helpful. My Frost magic should also be close to reaching a new level, which will hopefully make things a lot easier as well. So, I only need a good plan, huh?
* Third Person POW *
Linda Crowell is currently very nervous and anxious. The reason for this is her missing son. She knows that he and some friends of his went into the forest to play but none of them have returned until now! She turns around to face her husband, Rob Crowell.
“It’s already been two days...” (Linda)
“Don’t worry, honey! Pete and some of the other guards are looking for them! I'm sure everything is going to be alright... the biggest danger in this forest are wolfs and our son can easily win against them!” (Tom)
“What if he went into the dungeon?” (Linda)
“…” (Tom)
“Honey?” (Linda)
“Don't worry! Our son is a clever guy! He won't do anything as stupid like that, I'm sure!” (Tom)
“I hope you're right darling...” (Linda)
All of the sudden a loud bell rings.
“What? Isn't this the alarm bell?!” (Linda)
“Don't worry honey it's probably just some mistake, who would attack us out here and what for?” (Tom)
Sadly, neither of them knew at this point, what horror is going to plague their little home.

What do you think it takes to live? Is it strength? Power? Magic? Unparalleled intelligence? Or are they all mere accessories to the fact that life is irrelevant? Do you have what it takes to bear the burden of life? Does life even matter? I don't know, and to be frank, I am somehow alive; I was even able to function in society at one point. It frightens me to think no one else knows our purpose: not our parents, friends, or mentors. And I can't bring myself to surrender to any religion. But I do have a direction. A goal, one might say. My wish is to one day shout on top of the highest mountains, "Life doesn't frighten me!" But that won't happen. Because I died a long time ago. ... You're still here? That? Oh it was all in the script. You didn't think I'd actually say that cringey stuff, did you? ~Daniel
