Bonifacius spared no expense when renting out an entire inn to celebrate the final day of training as well as the victory of the trainees.
The establishment was spotless, the innkeeper, an old-looking frogman with a chef’s hat was dressed in a fine suit.
Bottles of expensive wines and fancy foods prepared by real chefs and not just spawned in the inns were laid out all over the place.
Unable to get drunk, JohnWillStab sat in the corner of the room playing a game of chess against Chaz.
“You’re surprisingly good at chess…” Chaz admitted moving one of his pieces.
“You think? I stopped playing these kinds of games after meeting a certain thief…” John sighed remembering the dozens of losses he racked up against the Thief.
He looked up to Chaz.
“Aren’t you going to go drink? I’d imagine you’d be a little traumatized after what happened…” John remarked moving his rook.
Chaz shook his head.
“Nah, I’m not really into alcohol, plus I get hungover easily…” he replied not taking his eyes off the chessboard.
Eventually, he moved another pawn.
JohnWillStab breathed a sigh.
“Damn, I wish I could get drunk…” he lamented.
“Is being undead really that bad?” Chaz asked looking up to John for just a second before looking back down.
“No, not really, I think Lorb specifically stopped me from getting drunk to be a dick…” John sighed.
“I mean, potions work… I can taste food, but alcohol is just too much…” John sighed.
“Well, in other games undead are immune to poison, and since alcohol is a poison it has no effect on you…” Chaz explained.
“Besides, who knows how this Lorb works?”
JohnWillStab breathed a sigh.
“I guess you’re right…” John sighed.
He moved his pawn forward.
“So, any plans for what you’re going to do next?” John asked.
Chaz breathed a sigh as he took a sip from a bottle of jGuardian apple-cherry juice, it was fermented to add the bubbles.

When he put the bottle down, he leaned back in his seat.
“I’m not sure if it’s wise to make any long-term plans when we have a two-year deadline…” he sighed.
JohnWillStab shrugged as he moved another piece forward.
“If you let imaginary deadlines dictate your actions you might as well give up now, I mean you had about fifty years left before you die anyway, right?”
The remark was mostly sarcastic, though Chaz did spend a little too much time thinking over it.
Chaz moved another piece forward.
“Anyway, you don’t need to worry about it,” John began.
“I have a plan,” he smiled looking at the chessboard.
“Aaand I win…” He cornered Chaz’s king.
Chaz breathed a sigh.
“Well played…” he remarked, he glanced down at his hand and saw his luck stat went up from the game.
“It went up by two!” Chaz exclaimed.
Meanwhile across the room Bonifacius, Abutron and Heike played a game of pool.
“I cannot believe thou charged into danger in order to save us! We are eternally in thy debt!” Bonifacius stood next to the pool table with his cue in hand.
“Don’t worry about it, dude, you would have like… done the same for us!” Abutron extended a hand towards Bonifacius as the two performed a fist bump.
“Yeah, that’s was actually really fun!” Heike exclaimed, he could still feel the rush of adrenaline as he ran up to the foe and punched him.
“I want to do it again… can I switch to a melee class?” he thought.
“Well, fear not! Thou won’t need to be in such great peril in the back of a raid group!” Bonifacius assured Heike.
Heike dawned a fake smile.
“O-oh… r-really?... great…”
He was also holding the pool cue rubbing the bit of chalk on the tip of it.
Abutron was also applying the chalk to his scythe.

From across the inn, Crown and Ribberman watched the three stand around the pool table pretending to know how to play pool.
“I like how nobody even told Abutron not to use his scythe…” Crown remarked, less disappointed and more amused as if she was watching footage of a car crash or a burning building.
Ribberman nodded.
“Yeah… I’m a little concerned…” he remarked.
Ribberman glanced over to the visibly concerned innkeeper sitting behind the till.
“And so is the owner…”
Crown looked back over to Ribberman.
“Aren’t you going to drink your booze?” she asked seeing his pint of beer was still full.
“O-of course I will! I love doing the alcohol!” he announced.
Crown squinted.
“How… old are you?” she questioned.
“Uhm…” Ribberman scratched his beard.
“I forgot…” he finally said.
Ribberman looked very satisfied with his answer.
“…”
“You are definitely not old enough to be in here…” she remarked.
“What!? No! I’m an adult!” he exclaimed defensively.
“…give me your date of birth…” she said uncertainly.
“…”
“I better play it safe…”
“Sixteen eighty-three…” he replied.
Crown propped her head on her arm.
“…”
“…”
“I’m actually too drunk to care…” she began.
“But don’t tell Bonifacius, or he’ll probably have us party outside…” she added.
“Still, don’t all kids know their date of birth?” Crown thought.
Ribberman breathed a sigh.
“Haha! Jokes on her, I’m sixteen but stupid!” Ribberman taught smugly.
“Still, how could you tell I was under eighteen?” he asked.
Crown shrugged.
“There were a few subtle clues…” she said smugly.
Moments later a waiter approached the table.
“Uhm… h-here are you, sir… ‘chicky-nuggies’ just as you asked…” he said placing the plate of crispy-looking chicken nuggets on the table before the man.
“Thanks!” Ribberman replied before digging into his meal.
Moments later the same waiter returned.
“Here you go, miss… a bowl of loop-shaped fruit cereal, as requested…”
The waiter was barely holding up his polite smile as he saw the two grown adults eating a plate of nuggets and cereal in what was meant to be a fine restaurant.
Crown suddenly felt her foot getting kicked under the table, she looked over to Ribberman.
“Really…?” she asked seriously doubling his age even more than before.
“What?” he asked.
With a sigh she looked under the table, expecting to see him kicking her; instead, she was met with a familiar face.
“Oi, Crown, you think you could get your friend some nuggets?” Lorb was hunched under the table on his knees.
Crown looked back up and continued eating her cereal.
“What was that about?” Ribberman thought looking under the table and seeing a depressed-looking Lorb except with a fake moustache for disguise.
He turned toward Ribberman with a heartfelt expression and a sad smile.
“Could you spare a nugget, sir?” he asked politely.
Lorb originally wanted to disguise himself as an industrial-era factory worker for bonus compassion points but didn’t have the time.
“Ignore him…” Crown sighed kicking Lorb without looking down.
“A-alright…” Ribberman looked up from under the table, he was confused, but also hungry.
They continued to eat in silence as Lorb silent cried under the table.
A few minutes later, the owner looked at Crown finish her meal by drinking the milk in her bowl before looking over to Ribberman who placed his plate with three remaining nuggets on the floor.
At first, the owner was confused, until a hand reached out from under the table cloth and pulled the plate in, returning it empty.
WeabooMike, Dun and Sepukke4me_n_u were playing cards at one of the tables as Alistard chatted up every waitress he could spot, telling them the tales of his bravery and epic skills.

Sorry for slaughtering such a beautiful tradition. This novel starts off slower than most. If the slow-roll isn't your thing, you might want to give this a pass. If it's not for you, I understand. Also, releases may be broken up into smaller chunks. The goal is 5k words, but definitely more than 4k. If you see a short release, be aware that more is probably coming. I'll be honest and say that I'm struggling with each new scene, if only because I want to balance the scope of vision with good pacing. I hope the work I put into it is worthwhile.
