《Binary Progression》Volume 6 - Chapter 1: Darius

Hundreds of years ago, before the imprisonment of the demon kings...
Darius, the black-furred wolfman stood amongst a river of blood, he wore a blue blouse and black trousers, at his side the cutlass he used to cut down hundreds.
He gasped for air as he felt the sharp pain in his eyes, he pulled the piece of shrapnel from inside with his fingers.
Rain fell down onto the battlefield causing the blood to flow down the hill into the swamp of gore.
The earth was burned with fire magic, the trees were splintered with air magic.
A war between humans and the wolfmen.
Darius looked up, clenching his fists and gritting his teeth as he saw the faces of the gods looking down on them.
His hand tightened, clutching his weapon and opening some of the wounds on his hand.
"Mmm, this event played out with acceptable levels of accuracy," the cosmic voice of the god above said, it was Oscar, the demon king tasked with making sure the history of the world is playing out as planned.
The surviving soldiers got up, humans and wolfmen.
The human soldier helped the wolfman up from the ground.
A mage proceeded to begin healing the human he tore open with his magic seconds ago.
Neither humans nor wolfmen harboured any ill will towards the other side, they were both pawns for the gods and their "divine plan".
"Sir!" a voice called out, it was a wolfman, a light-furred one, dressed in blue robes, he ran up to Darius, ready to help his wounds when he saw the scowl on their captain's face.
"Mark my words... I'll kill every last one of you bastards..." Darius said through clenched teeth.
His voice was muffled by the rain, but from his lips, the light-furred mage could read his intent.

He jumped back.
"Don't say such things!" he exclaimed.
Darius turned to the mage, his empty eye-socket now visible causing the mage to step back.
"C-captain! Hold on a second! I'll heal that!"
A bolt of lightning came down from the sky.
The mage looked up and saw where it came from, Sicillus, "the silent god" wordlessly punished Darius.
The black-furred wolfman fell to the ground.
When he woke up he could feel the pain in his eyes,
"What the hell... they should have healed they eye by now..." he thought, he looked down and saw the blood-stained sheets below him.
He lay in a wooden bed, the floor was made from wood, the walls were a clean white colour.
It was dark outside, the room was lit with a candle.
"What the hell?" he thought looking down.
He placed a hand to his eyes and felt the still-raw wound.
"Captain, you're awake!" a voice said, it was a human.
"Y-yeah... what's going on?" Darius asked.
The healer looked down to his feet in shame.
"We healed most of the damage... but we're unable to help with the eye..."
"I heard you angered the gods on the battlefield, you've been cursed..."
Darius looked at the blood covering his hand.
"Your eyes can't be healed... and no mage is willing to break the seal on your eyes for fear of divine retribution..."
"You're to see the king as soon as you're able," the doctor explained.
"I already informed the messenger that it might take a few days to fully close the eye-wound..." the doctor explained.
"I don't have that much time..." Darius growled under his breath as he grabbed the candle and placed it in his eye-socket, cauterizing the wound.

He got out of the bed, seeing the grey hospital clothes he wore.
"Where are my things?" he asked.
The doctor gestured to the small box beside the bed nervously.
Darius looked through the box.
His expression soured as he turned to the doctor.
"Where is my sword?" he asked.
The doctor breathed a sigh of uncertainty.
"I-it was taken by the messenger! Please calm down!" the doctor pleaded.
Darius' ears twitched.
"Sounds like my escort is here..." he thought.
The wolfman grabbed the blood-soaked bedsheet off the bed and tossed it into the air, obscuring him from the eyes of the doctor.
By the time the sheet fell he was already dressed in his normal clothes.
"Y-you could have just asked me to leave..." the doctor remarked.
Darius made his way towards the door when he was stopped by the doctor.
"B-before you go!" he began.
"Hmm?" Darius awaited the doctor's words impatiently.
The doctor handed him a small wooden box, Darius opened it and revealed a black eyepatch and a small glass orb, a fake eye.
"You should cover up the wound, if it'd get infected you would be in a pretty bad situation..." the doctor finally said.
Darius nodded and put the eyepatch on before walking past the human and down the stairs into the main room.
He stepped out onto the cobblestone road and took a deep breath before seeing the several armoured individuals, humans, wolfmen, ogres and every other race, at least two dozen of them.
"Darius Gormund, captain of the golden plains' army, you are under arrest for heresy and treason, please do not resist arrest!"
Darius glanced at the armoured guards around him,
"Level twelve, two twenties, one forty, a few tens..."
"Will I be receiving a trial?" he asked.
The level forty guard spoke up.
"Yes, you have been granted a trial by his majesty, your execution was not an order by the gods!" the young soldier exclaimed nervously.
"I-i-if you ask me, you h-have a decent chance of winning the court case! A-after all you're the famous captain of the wolfmen!" exclaimed the guard.
Darius looked at all the guards one last time.
"..."
"Let's get moving, then..." he sighed, extending both hands forward,
One of the guards placed thick, metal handcuffs on his wrists.
He was lead onto a cart with six guards and carted off towards the wolfman castle, one of the eight castles that stood in the city, each one representing a race.
