《Binary Progression》Volume 4 - Chapter 9: Friendly competitiveness

"Great new!" John exclaimed.
"We'll be there way sooner than expected!"
John was speaking over the Friend-to-Friend communication system.
He was sitting inside the massive ship already acquired by the jGuardians.
In the same room sat Olivionion, Alex and Jordan on the massive 'c' shaped couch, sitting around the fancy wooden table in the middle.
The captain and his crew were invited to another room.
"We're still at the pet island, my cat refused to let me leave unless we dragged all the pets off the island and into the boat," John explained.
"Tis great news! Not only have thou found thy pet, but thou can also deliver the lost pets to the mainland!" exclaimed Bonifacius, he was currently talking to John from the small inn located in Duskshire in Grimwood.
JohnWillStab looked around the room they were in.
Fancy wood walls, a yellow carpet and a massive window with a view of the water.
Along the walls stood shelves filled with books and trinkets.
A large painting of Curslte and Bonifacius.
"Anyway, they said we'll be there in a few hours, so I guess I'll hang up for now," John replied grabbing the glass of clear brown liquid off the table and drinking from it.
"Yep... not noodles..." he thought putting the tea back down.
"Alright! We shall be waiting!" Bonifacius replied.
"Right!"
The room remained silent for a bit longer.
Olivionion looked over to John.
"So, how exactly are you planning on getting to hell?" asked Olivionion breaking the silence.
John looked over to him and crossed his arms.
"So, the plan is we find a demon-king capable of controlling the coming and leaving of souls into this world," John replied.
"Thal said that one does exits," he added.
Olivionion looked over to Alex, the sword was on his back.
"So... your talking sword told you to track down his buddies and they'll send us to hell?" he asked.

"Precisely," Alex nodded.
"I wouldn't refer to them as my buddies, though..." Thal butted in.
Olivionion looked towards the door.
"You guys realise they're spying on us, right?" he asked, he was bluffing.
JohnWillStab nodded cracking a smile and trying to look cool.
"THEY ARE!?" he thought.
"Yeah." Alex laughed.
"I absolutely did not," he confessed internally.
"I know..." Thal "Neither did anybody else in this room..." he added.
"Pfft, yeah!" Jordan said looking over to the door.
Moments later Curstl smashed the door open.
"Hello, Friend!" she exclaimed.
"Oh, it's you..." Olivionion said looking somewhat disappointed.
"Don't 'Oh it's you' me, what are you doing with these three?" Curstl demanded in a hushed tone with crossed arms.
"Oh, we teamed up," he explained.
She looked at him for a solid ten awkward seconds before she let out a sigh.
"At this point... that doesn't even surprise me..." she said with a weak smile.
"Good, because you're going help us get to hell!" Olivionion exclaimed.
Curstl looked up at him and shot him a dirty look through a forced smile.
"...what?"
"Who the fuck does this sushi-looking bastard thing he is giving me orders?!" she thought, despite this, the smile never faded.
"My team and I need to get to hell, so since we're such good friends, you wouldn't mind helping us out, right?"
"That's... eh... I mean..." Curstl stumbled over her words.
"Manpower is all we need, we need to find this one ancient demon." he clarified.
"Thought, I'm sure you already heard us talking about it..." he replied with a wide smile as he took a sip of the tea.
Curstl looked to JohnWillStab.
"Is... is he really in your party?" she asked.
John nodded.
"Yeah, we teamed up not too long ago," John replied.
"I guess I have no choice then... damn you, Olivionion!"

The talks lasted a few hours, Curstl offered to make a forty-man party for their needs.
They would gather in exactly seven days outside a specific location and help the party clear the raid below Mournwood.
"Forty people should be more than enough," John said turning to Alex and Jordan who nodded in agreement.
"Alright, I will introduce you to our top warriors as soon as we reach land, they should be stationed nearby!" she assured them.
An hour later the ship reached a dock in Arlepia, it was a small town with a dozen brick homes and a long, wooden dock.
A few people were fishing as the massive ship blocked out the sun.
"This is a pretty big ship!" John exclaimed.
"The jGuardians used to have the biggest navy on the server," Olivionion replied hopping off the massive ship and onto the deck.
John did the same and broke his legs with a crack.
Olivionion turned to look at him and immediately John stood up doing his best to stand straight.
His broken legs shook under his own weight.
"Dude... you didn't activate cat's fall?" asked Olivionion with raised eyebrows.
"N-no... I like the crunch..." John replied holding back tears.
"UNDEAD FEEL LESS PAIN MY ASS, THIS FEELS LIKE HAVING MY LEGS IN A MEAT GRINDER!"

"Oh, really?" asked Olivionion looking down.
John looked down and saw the muscles on Olivionion's legs tighten as he heard a crack.
"DID HE JUST SQUEEZE HIS BONES PAST THE BREAKING POINT?!" thought John.
"He must really be a badass..." he thought.
John looked up and saw Olivionion was also holding back tears.
"HE'S FAKING BADASSERY!"
"How does it feel?" asked John.
"Mm... yeah... I can see why... you like the crunch..." he nodded.
JohnWillStab began to walk with his broken leg, each step making him look like a newborn deer.
"Mmm! GREAT! I LOVE IT!" John exclaimed.
Olivionion ran past him.
"Why are you going... so slowly... don't tell me you can't handle a little pain?" he laughed biting down on his lower lip.
"Pain, what even is that?!" John exclaimed as he began running after him, every time he lifted his leg it flopped around loosely.
From the ladder leading down off the ship, Alex looked at them.
"What the hell are they doing?" he asked.
"I have no idea..." replied Jordan.
"They're asserting dominance," Thal replied.
JohnWillStab and Olivionion were currently in the middle of a race, psychotic looks on both of their faces.
They turned back at the same time, John's legs giving out as he fell to the ground without the slightest change in his expression.
He looked at the rest of his party.
"HURRY UP, SLOW-POKES!" he cried.
"WHY GET THEM INVOLVED!? LET'S SPRINT THERE OURSELVES!" Olivionion replied.
"YOU'RE RIGHT!" John replied getting back to his feet, he held his bone intact with his hands.
"READY?!" John demanded.
"I WAS BORN READY!" Olivionion cried.
And thus they burst into a crunchy sprint.
"HELL, I BET WE'LL MAKE IT TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE CONTINENT BEFORE THEY REACH US!" John exclaimed.
"HAH! CALL ME COLUMBUS BECAUSE I'M ABOUT TO CURCUMNAVIAGE THE WORLD WHILE SPRINTING ON THE WATER!" Olivionion laughed.
"I'm not surprised about John... but is the fish guy really going to survive this?" asked Jordan.
Curstl was also heading down the stairs.
"Actually... I think you should be more worried about the undead..." she sighed.
The party made it to Grimwood and Duskshire soon after...
Naturally, John and Olivionion reached Duskshire first, at times sprinting at over seven hundred km/h and creating destructive sonic booms as they ran.

Live by the Sword
--Follow a bandit prone to making poor choices in life. He lives in a somewhat medieval age where steel is king, blood is shed fairly lightly, and weakness gets you punished fast. But that's okay. As long as he has his sword, he'll be fine. Right? --This story is tragic and contains some depictions of violence and nudity. The attitudes of the characters don't represent my views and some of them are highly questionable. Due to these reasons, I've flagged the story as adult content. --I've been working on Live by the Sword since as far back as 2012 and it is my first actual effort at completing a book. Maybe I'll stick with it and there will be paperbacks of it some day. Who knows. Either way, I hope the words I tell give you amusement and perhaps some cause to think. Cheers.

Wulfgard: The Hunt Never Ends
In the civilized world of humans, 'monsters' have all but passed into legend. But when something goes bump in the night, when people begin to disappear, when a dark mystery begins to haunt even the most peaceful villages, there is only one organization to turn to: the Hunters. The Venatori. Having lived a life of discipline and service, former soldier Caiden Voros finds something even worse than the wars of humans: the monsters that hunt them. Horrors yet unknown even to him and his many scars await in the claws, talons, fangs, and mysterious powers of creatures so far beyond humans that he must dedicate himself entirely to the art of slaying them. Harboring a secret of his own and in a constant struggle to find answers while maintaining his sanity, however, Caiden begins to ask the age-old question... Who is truly worse, the monsters or the Men? Wulfgard: The Hunt Never Ends is an episodic collection of stories, each of which stand on its own, but they also build upon each other in a consecutive order, bridging a gap between a novel and short story collection. These stories follow monster hunter Caiden Voros and his partner Gwen Vergil as they embark on tales of mystery, horror, and adventure to track down monsters - the living dead, beast-men, shape-shifters, spirits, and many more - that would do harm to innocent lives and, by whatever means necessary, put a stop to their terrors. Their motives, however, are not always what they seem.

A God's Champion
James was an Operator who had the misfortune to die in battle. Instead of his soul moving on to his just reward, it is intercepted, and James finds himself on a new mission. Asked to be the Champion for Ignatius, God of Embers, he finds himself in a different world, fighting impossible creatures and trying to survive. Their lives now depend on his completing the Challenge and ranking in the top 500. But the odds are stacked against him, and he was a better operator than a swordsman. Chapters released Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 12:30 Warning: After Chapter 11, the MC undergoes a significant change of class and race. This is due to a couple of factors. The first is that when the MC was created, James didn't know what he was doing, so he picked what he thought would work. The second reason is that he had access to more information to game the system a little. The premise is like when you buy a new video game and decide to play it without RTFM. After creating a great character and making it to the end of the first act, you realize that, although your character may be kewl, it is gimped and will not survive until the end of the game. Going back to the start, you create a new character with the knowledge you gained from playing the game and perhaps, peeking at the manual.
