《Binary Progression》Volume 3 - Chapter 47: A third returns

The giant hammer fell upon JohnWillStab knocking him down to the ground.
As he tried to use manoeuvre to appear behind the red-haired man, JohnWillStab felt the other end of the hammer hit him, launching him across the road and through the wall of some house.
"How'd he get so overpowered?!" thought JohnWillStab looking up at the man.
"John!" Alex called out.
"Don't! The fallen doesn't need air to survive!" Thal reminded him.
Jordan was still passed out on the ground.
"You must have healthy lungs to be able to last this long in a low-oxygen environment!" exclaimed the red-haired man.
He reached into his pocket and held out two lumps of what looked like coal.
With a single clap of his hands, the coal disappeared and a powerful gust of wind flew out.
"Is he showing off?" thought Alex.
JohnWillStab got up, he held his two daggers out and tossed them both at the man in rapid succession.
He covered his face with his massive gauntlets allowing him to remain unscathed whilst John closed the distance.
JohnWillStab used manoeuvre and appeared behind him once more, he slashed at him only to be met with the sparks generated from him hitting the metal of the armour.
"NICE TRY!" exclaimed the man as he effortlessly swatted John down to the ground with his hammer,
Before JohnWillStab even hit the ground he tried the same trick only to be hit with the sharp end of the hammer for a change, his lungs now partially exposed to the world.
JohnWillStab was sent flying with a massive cavity in his chest.
"Crap! Steve just fixed my coat!" John thought.
He stood back up.
"You're still up after having your torso opened?" the man scratched his chin.
"I get it! You're an undead!" he exclaimed.
"Damn, he figured him out!" Alex thought as he felt a warm liquid running down from his nose.
He wiped it away seeing it was blood.

"Fuck!" he thought as he fell to the ground limply.
"What the hell happened?!" Thal exclaimed.
"The coal!" thought John.
"What the hell did you do?!" Asked JohnWillStab.
"Of course, an undead wouldn't die because a lack of oxygen!" hollered the man as he pulled out another lump of coal.
"Looks like carbon monoxide is also ineffective..." he added.
"Oh no..." thought John.
"Chemistry!"
"So you can do some half-sciency tricks?! So can I!" JohnWillStab exclaimed as he grabbed his two daggers.
He placed both of them in his sleeves.
Then he pulled one out from the other sleeve.
"That's just a cheap trick!" laughed the man.
A smile crept onto John's face.
"And don't think I forgot about your hidden blade!" he added.
John's smile quickly faded.
JohnWillStab used manoeuvre and like every other attempt, this one failed, the man launched John into the air, his coat flying aside, then he shot a projectile of hard-oxygen at John, the explosion shredding his flesh and tearing off one hand.
JohnWillStab fell limply to the ground, not dead but dangerously close.
"Looks like it's game-over, undead!" laughed the red-haired man.
"You were a strong enemy, but you lacked the brains to defeat me!" he added.
Suddenly from John's coat rushed out the small, black shape of a cat, dagger in its tiny jaw as it leapt into the air, falling with the poisonous white blade and stabbing it into the large man's back.
"A companion?" asked the man quickly grabbing the cat by its elastic back-skin.
"A companion with a poisoned blade!" John added smugly.
The large man dropped the cat onto the ground, she immediately ran up to JohnWillStab.
"Not bad, undead," the man admitted.
"Thanks..." John replied.
JohnWillStab's smugness quickly disappeared, he had a bad feeling about this.
"But I happen to know the spider-venom blade is a low-level item that scales with your level," the man explained.

"Unless you're level fifty or above, you don't stand a chance of killing me with poison alone," the man admitted.
The heavily armoured man stood up and with his hammer in hand approached JohnWillStab.
"I will now kill you and your party," he explained.
JohnWillStab didn't reply.
"Fuck, I thought I got him for sure!" thought John.
"I do owe you an apology in the end," said the red-haired man lifting his hammer over John's head.
The massive steel head of the hammer blocking out the sun.
"This was a fight you couldn't win,"
A loud bang rang out as the red-haired man turned around and saw a wolfman with incredibly short hair, a white hat that flowed in the wind and a long, white coat with short sleeves.
White cowboy boots and a small sack over the back.
"They have another companion?!" thought the man, before he could react he was met with a quick burst of bullets from the wolfman's revolver.
A single bullet grazed the man's cheek and caused a small cut to form.
With one hand he shot a solid air projectile at the wolfman who effortlessly sliced the solid-oxygen in half with a silver rapier as it flew past him and crashed into the two buildings behind him creating two smaller explosions.
"Pah! Shouldn't have done that!" bellowed the man, he looked over to the wolfman's hand and saw that it was barely covered in some light frost.
"Wolfman fur can disperse cold like no other material," the wolfman finally said,
"Who is that?" thought JohnWillStab.
"Who are you?" demanded the red-haired man.
"Name's Rootin'," he raised the blade up to eye-level and pointed at his opponent.
The armoured man charged at Rootin', his massive hammer coming down at him, Rootin' crouched down dodging the hammer before planting the blade through the man's hand and through his head, scrambling several non-vital bits of the brain.
His attacker fell to the ground limply.
"Now then..." Rootin' broke the man's armour in half with a single well-placed strike before severing his head.
A large pool of blood appeared as the head rolled over to face JohnWillStab.
"Woah!" JohnWillStab stood up and patted his clothes clean.
Rootin' looked over to John.
"Are you three-part of the rebellion?" he asked.
"No, no, I'm just here to overthrow the whole nation," John explained rushing over to help Jordan off the ground.
"I see..." Rootin' put his blade away,
"I'm the same, I don't want to ally myself with any faction, though something has to be done about the state of affairs in Ajuan," Rootin said,
"I just want my dick back..." thought John.
Alex stumbled his way over to JohnWillStab, still a little light-headed.
"Hey, thanks for the help, wolfman!" Alex exclaimed.
"Don't mention it," Rootin' replied looking at the corpse below.
"I scrambled his brain before killing him, so it'll be a while till he'll respawn," he explained.
"Seriously, thanks for the help there, my plan wasn't quite enough..." JohnWillStab replied,
"Say, when are you folks going after HaremHarry?" asked Rootin'.
"We're heading over as soon as Jordan wakes up!" John replied.
"Then, why don't we join forces?" offered Rootin'.
John looked to his party members, Jordan just barely opened his eyes and was looking at Rootin'.
Alex nodded.
"Sure!" JohnWillStab said looking at Rootin'.
John got his coat back and Arachnophobia returned into his sleeve.
"So then, my name is Rootin'," he introduced himself,
"I'm Alex!" Alex exclaimed.
"Jordan,"
"I'm JohnWillStab!" John exclaimed immediately stopping as he finished his sentence.
"JohnWillStab?" asked Rootin'.
"Y-ye... I mean... I-no"
"That is some mighty poor humour, pal," laughed Rootin before turning to face the distant palace in which sat HaremHarry.

With seemingly limitless potential and a game-like system influencing the world, the hero sets on his journey. --AUTHOR NOTE, PLEASE READ-- I will state here my promises to you, potential reader: 1. No harem! I don't trust myself to make a harem feel natural or healthy, I never met any person who has a personality that can adapt and live in a harem for reasons that are not monetary, so I can't draw inspiration from real life. Sorry!; 2. The enemies will not be bland and illogically mean. Some may feel like that at first, but I will take great care in fleshing them out, trust me. You may end up hating some, but you won't be able to deny that they had their reasons for what they did; 3. I am using a paid (and expensive) automated editor tool, and I take longer to write because I take my time in editing the stuff. I am aiming to improve and I will not shy away from constructive criticism, nor take offense for no reason; 4. Characters will die and will suffer, some will get over the tragedies and improve, others will not be as resilient. 5. This novel has a lot of ground to cover, it is neither a short story, a manual on crafting, or the script of some action scene. There will be both time skips and oversimplifications of some actions for the sake of moving the story forward. Time skips will be more prominent in the first 30 chapters. I will describe crafting processes and fights with more detail if they are essential for the chapter; 6. If I took my time describing something, it's because it is important. I hate novels that waste time describing useless stuff. If you skim over something, the chances are that something in the future will not make sense. I am an adept of "Chekhov's gun" principle; 7. I already have 31k words on my auxiliary documents, I have a plan for the story, and I will not be making changes even if someone ends up noticing some foreshadowing and figures out what will happen. The story comes first. 8. I have a wife, a job that demands 9h every day and courses related to my job (lawyer) three days of the week, it's unlikely that I will be able to do mass releases at all. I will have a healthy amount of chapters to be able to post at least 1 chapter every day continually. Don't worry. 9. I will read all the comments. I will listen to all you have to say and will try my best to accommodate demands as long as they do not hamper the path I prepared. 10. There is an arc that spans the entire novel. Each volume will be an arc in itself while progressing a little bit of the main arc. Every arc will have one or more main antagonists. I think that's it! Thank you for reading it all. Have an awesome time reading my first novel!!
