《Binary Progression》Volume 3 - Chapter 28: Down the cliff with a smoker

"I wonder what kind of uniforms we'll get?" asked Bromy looking over to Bonifacius.
"Thou really are interested in the uniform business!" Bonifacius exclaimed.
They walked down the thin, wandering road down the side of the cliff, the nice, green grass of the west half of the zone was contrasted by the golden, dried-out look of the east.
A river still separated the party from the west, though the gloves should make things easy when it was time to cross the uneasy waters.
The occasional tree hung near the edge of the cliff, awaiting its end in the rapid waters below.
Meanwhile, a few meters behind them, Revenberry clung to the wall as she walked, grabbing any rock or stray roots for safety.
"Hey, bird-brains! You can fly so hurry up!" Bromy called out, he was starting to get tired of walking slowly to facilitate Revenberry's fear of heights.
Revenberry shook with every step, she regretted not making her Harpy have bird-claw-hands, because that would make clinging to the wall easier.
"FUCK THAT! If I slip I will be laying down at the bottom of this cliff either dead or in constant agony as my bones lay broken and my skull cracked as my brain matter pours, or better yet I'll fall into the water and drown while dying of broken bones..." she said everything so quickly nobody could understand.
"Yeah, sure!" Bromy exclaimed dismissively and with a hint of uncertainty.
He started making his way down, as the road got ever thinner.
"Fear not! Bromy is a great healer!" Bonifacius shouted from the distance shooting her a thumbs up before heading further down the path, quickly followed by Bromy.
"G-guys! Don't leave me back here!.... Guys?!" Revenberry pleaded.
As Bonifacius and Bromy reached the bottom, the road was barely wide enough for Bonifacius to walk without pressing up against the cliff.
"We made it!" Bonifacius announced, he turned to Bromy who was reaching for his packet of cigarettes, he pulled one out before lighting it.

"Yeah, most of us anyway..." Bromy sighed.
"I HATE YOU ALL!" Revenberry exclaimed falling from the cliff and on her way to meet her watery grave as Bromy caught her with the chain glove and dragged her to where they stood.
The chain let go of her such that she sat against the wall of the cliff, as her legs gave out and she ended up sitting, wide-eyed and pale, her pupils the size of a speck of dirt.
"Are thou alright? I had hoped thou would overcome thy fear of heights if thou should be left alone..." Bonifacius began, he helped Revenberry off the ground, but the second he let go of her she slumped back down to the ground.
"...Has thy chain pulled too hard?" asked Bonifacius turning towards Bromy.
"No, look at her, she's all shaky," Bromy replied.
Bonifacius picked her up and carried her over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes.
"Now then, to cross the river..." Bonifacius said looking into the rapid water.
"You should be able to just walk across considering how heavy your armour is," Bromy said scratching his chin.
"Indeed, what about thou?"
"I'll give the chain a shot," Bromy replied aiming for a lone tree standing on the other side of the river.
It was only up to Boniacius' chin at its deepest part and no wider than ten meters on average, the side opposite the cliff had a propper beach, unlike the rough plunge down into the water required to cross over to the other side.
Quickly Bromy made it across the river, smashing in the tree and leaving a small bloodstain where his face became intimate with the tree-bark.
"Are thou alright?" Bonifacius yelled.
"I'm good!" Bromy slurred pulling away from the tree and resting against it.
"Rejuvenation" he thought causing his hands to emit a pale green light, spiral patterns of light appeared below his skin, glowing an even more vibrant green as he was practically able to see the outline of his bone through the glowing flesh.

He put the hand to his forehead causing his wound to create dozens of light green sparks and emit a quiet fizzing noise as it slowly grew-over painlessly, leaving nothing but a bloodstain on his forehead and a stream of now drying blood down his face.
Bonifacius breathed a sigh of relief and plunged into the water, his feet sinking in the cold mud and pebbles forcing him to keep going or sink.
"Are you doing alright?" Bromy asked as Bonifacius was already mouth-deep in the water.
"Alright, toss her up," Bromy relented, Bonifacius tossed Revenberry into the air allowing Bromy to grab her with the chain-glove, she too crashed into the tree, though not nearly as badly as Bromy.
Moments later, everything went silent as Bonifacius went down into the depths, the occasional bubble reaching the surface was a short reminder of the fact Bonifacius was still alive, though the bubbles were quickly swept away with the water.
A minute later Bonifacius emerged from the other side of the river, covered in weeds and mud, as soon as he was out of the water, he began by taking a mighty breath, and as if he wasn't deprived of air for the last minute, he just went back to his usual self, breathing normally.
"Sometimes I forget your stupid lung capacity... guess it carried over into the game..." Bromy said, he was definitely impressed.
"Nonsense, anybody could remain submerged underwater for a minute!" Bonifacius replied.
"Yeah... except-" Bromy began.
"People with lung disease, a surgically removed lung, a chest infection, a fear of water with a tendency to panic and gasp for air, people who smoke, people just done walking down a fucking cliff and as a result having an increased heart rate," Bromy concluded his list.
Bonifacius stretched a bit and shook the water out of his boots.
"Are thou done?" he asked.
"Yup."
"..."
"Also most people over sixty," Bromy added.
"Fear not, Bromy! We can increase your lung capacity!" Bonifacius exclaimed.
"I'm good thanks," Bromy replied.
"All thou has to do is stop smoking all the time!" Bonifacius continued.
"I'll pass." he sighed.
Seeing his chance to get Bromy to stop smoking he kept talking.
"Come now! Thou shouldn't dirty thy new lungs!" Bonifacius exclaimed.
"Bony, if having one life didn't stop me from smoking, having this many sure as hell won't," Bromy replied as he turned and started making his way towards the town of Levelgreen.
"Perhaps, but thou should limit thy smoking a bit!" Bonifacius pleaded.
"Leave me alone!" Bromy complained.
"Bromy!" Bonifacius exclaimed, he crossed his arms and looked at his comrade with a look of judgment.
Bromy turned around to face Bonifacius, he reached into his pocket and pulled out the box of cigarettes, he grabbed thirteen cigarettes, lit each one and placed them all in his mouth before taking a deep breath.
Bonifacius looked at him with a dirty look.
"Uh wook ah ee, aym daihhh" when translated into English, Bromy's words were: "Oh look at me, I'm dying!"
Bonifacius picked Revenberry up off the base of the tree and carried her over his shoulder.
"Ih wah guh a gokhh" again, his speech was muffled by the cigarettes, when translated it meant: "It was just a joke!"
Still, Bonifacius didn't turn back and just kept walking.
He tried to breathe a sigh but one of the cigarettes flew into his throat.
"FUCK"
He turned to Bonifacius who was already walking away.
"Yes, yes, thou needst not mock me with thy sounds of fake suffering!" he complained.
That was Bromy's second death in this world, he respawned ten minutes later and caught up to Bonifacius.
