《Binary Progression》Volume 2 - Chapter 30: Vans

JohnWillStab sat at the couch in his living room, he already lost another arm.
Beside him sat the thief, feeding his some instant-noodles.
"I never thought I'd end up without both arms..." he lamented whilst chewing on his noodles.
"Maybe we can stitch them on?" proposed the thief.
"Whatever, I just kind of hoped I could drop dead as a whole, y'know." he sighed, seeing the soup was finished he stood up and headed towards the door.
"I better go say my goodbyes to the others while I have my legs," he said gently nudging his floor open with his foot.
"Hold on! You can't go outside looking like that!" Pedecree called out grabbing JohnWillStab by the collar.
"It'll be fine, losing a limb or three is normal for this place." he tried to shrug but with only one shoulder it looked a bit weird.
"Bromy, do you think we could... attach the arms temporarily?" Pedecree asked.
"Depends, on a scale of one to ten, how suicidal are you?" he asked.
"A five," John replied earning a smack on the head from pedecree.
"This is serious, any time John has to spend explaining his armlessness is time he loses of his life," he argued.
Meanwhile Bonifacius entered the room, "I have an idea!" he exclaimed.
They got JohnWillStab's (surprisingly fresh-looking) arms and taped them on.
"There, no flesh-to-flesh contact! Thou should be safe, right Bromy?" Bonifacius asked patting JohnWillStab on his shoulder causing one arm to slip out of his sleeve.
"I mean, it's not like he'll live long enough to care about an infection that takes that long to set in." he shrugged.
"Great! Just in case, I shall accompany JohnWillStab." Bonifacius explained.
"There's no need, I'll just let the delinquents and the shop owner I'm 'going to the black house' " JohnWillStab would have done air-quotes if he could.
"Black house?" Asked Pedecree.
"It means 'I'm going to dissapear, no point worrying.' " he explained.
"Ah, I see. Go ahead." Bonifacius replied looking at JohnWillStab who approached the door, looked at the door handle and back to Bonifacius, "Alright, I might need your help..." he relented.
The two headed out outside but turned back when they heard Crown, "Hold on, I'm coming with you, I can't live off soup." she exclaimed.
"There's a takeaway nearby, we can stop there if you want." JohnWillStab offered.

"...John... I meant actual food..."
"I guess you could buy some over-pizza at the sho-" he was smacked on the head by Crown this time.
"HOW ARE YOU STILL ALIVE!?" she demanded.
"We'll be right back!" Bonifacius exclaimed before heading moving outside with Crown and John.
Outside they saw several black vans standing around, they looked empty, they looked dirty and if JohnWillStab didn't know for a fact that nobody around here owned a van like that, they might have blended into the scene.
"Aren't those a bit suspicious?" asked Crown turning to the other two.
"Ignore them," JohnWillStab whispered as his expression shifted to a more jovial one.
JohnWillStab saw the back door of one of them vans slowly slide open.
"Man, did you hear about those guys who were turning into monsters online, I wonder what movie they're from?" he announced loudly.
The door to the van slid closed catching Crown's attention.
The group walked right past the vans and into the tight alleyway leading towards the shop.
"What the hell was that about?" Crown asked.
"The vans had fake registrations," JohnWillStab replied.
"Wait, how do you know that?!"
"The registration plates were squeaky clean, while the vans were dirty, they were switched right after the cars were made to look dirty," he replied.
"And judging by their reaction, they're here after people who know about the game," he explained.
"You came up with that, but you can't dodge AOE."
"Then, are we safe? And what about the others in the house?" Bonifacius asked.
"I don't know," JohnWillStab replied.
That was unusual, he didn't have a theory or an idea that he could present.
"What do you mean, they closed the van door, right?" Crown asked.
"So? That could mean anything from 'Oh, ok it's not them.' to 'They addressed out suspicious straight-away, it's them' " JohnWillStab explained.
"Why would they be after us anyway?!" asked Bonifacius.
"My best guess is they're either after me, or somebody really doesn't want to let people out of this world," he replied.
"So what, somebody wants to kill us off because we'll look like fantasy creatures for a while?!" Crown asked sceptically.
"Think about it! Nobody except Lorb knows how this works, what if you suddenly learn the abilities of your character? What if somebody like Olivionion decided to terrorise a city? or a nation?" JohnWillStab asked.

"That would be terrible!" Bonifacius exclaimed.
"And profitable..." Crown pointed out.
"You have to make it for less than two days, then you'll be fine!" he pointed out.
"If they wanted to just kill us they'd just gun us down, right?" JohnWillStab thought.
"Do they care about the innocent? If they just gunned the house down that'd put the old couple at risk... and the thief..."
"Wait... the thief... she got the game didn't she?! Why didn't I register this until now?!?!"
"At least she didn't choose an undead..." he sighed.
"What?" Crown asked.
"Oh, nothing. I forgot the thief got the game too," he replied trying to smile.
"Yeah, what's the deal with you people? She breaks into your house every other day and you're fine with it?" Crown demanded trying to change the topic to a lighter one.
"And here we accused JohnWillStab of abducting women!" Laughed Bonifacius.
"Wait, you don't suppose John and the thief-" Crown was cut off by JohnWillStab who exclaimed "Oh look! Another subject! Let's switch to it!"
"No way!" Bonifacius and Crown were gossiping about JohnWillStab as if they were school-girls.
"JohnWillStab has the charisma of a forty-year-old fast-food employee and the confidence of a garden gnome with autism!" Crown exclaimed.
"Tis a bit harsh..." Bonifacius defended John.
"Perhaps love can blossom between outcasts," Crown exclaimed.
JohnWillStab turned red.
"Looks like he'll die before losing the v-card." Crown laughed.
"The what?" Bonifacius asked confused.
"I THINK IT'S TOO LATE FOR THAT ANYWAY!" JohnWillStab exclaimed internally.
"John, have thou spoke to the thief about this matter?"
"WHAT MATTER!? You people came up with all that on your own!" he complained.
"We should hook them up since it's the last they'll see of each other," Crown said smugly.
Crown said trying to hold back laughter.
"What a great idea!" Bonifacius exclaimed.
"DO NOT!"
"I doubt you'll get much action in the afterlife," Crown commented.
"Perhaps JohnWillStab simply doesn't know how to approach the situation!" Bonifacius suggested ignoring Crown's crude comment.
Crown waited for JohnWillStab to rebuke them but they just kept walking.
"John... don't fucking tell me-" she was cut off by JohnWillStab.
"OH LOOK! THE SHOP!" he exclaimed.
"I can't see it..." Bonifacius complained.
"IT'S RIGHT THERE, BEHIND THE BUILDING OBSTRUCTING IT!"
"Christ this is sad..." Crown sighed.
"Look, don't mess with my platonic relationships!" JohnWillStab demanded.
"JohnWillStab!" announced one of the delinquents as they ran up to him.
"Hey."
"Did you see the vans?!"
"Yeah, I think they're after me and possibly my group." JohnWillStab sighed.
The delinquent called over a few (identical looking) delinquents.
"I actually came to say goodbye," JohnWillStab explained.
"What?! You're leaving? Good for you man!"
"No, no... I'm... y'know." JohnWillStab tried to do the "death" gesture where you move your thumb on your throat like your slitting it, but his arms weren't magically fixed yet.
"The black house?" asked the delinquent.
"Yeah." JohnWillStab replied.
Their expressions were a mix of shock and sorrow.
"Is there anything we can do? We can't let you die yet!"
"It's not really something we can control... think of it as a disease," he replied.
"Thou I might get killed by whoever is in the vans first," he added.
JohnWillStab moved his shoulder around causing his arm to slide out and fall to the ground.
Nobody said anything.
The delinquent looked to Crown and Bonifacius.
"Who are they?" Asked the delinquent, seemingly forgetting the fact they attacked them last night.
"They're my friends, I can't really open doors without arms so y'know..."
Both of them waved at the delinquents.
"I see."
"I'm going to die tomorrow... so I wanted to say goodbye to you and the shop owner," JohnWillStab explained.
"I understand." replied the delinquent.
Suddenly the sound cars caught everyone's attention, three vans pulled over on two sides of a cross-roads of the alley.
Out marched over a dozen men, armed head to toe in riot gear and ski-masks, in each hand they had what looked like a modified cattle prod.
"Fuck!" exclaimed Crown as Bonifacius took a step back.
"We'll have to get back to the house!" Crown exclaimed turning back to the way they came.
A sudden rumbling sounded around them as the sun was blocked by heavy clouds and the sound of thunder.
"Don't be an idiot, he was two days!" called out the delinquent reaching for the bat on his back as the rest did the same.
The delinquent turned away from JohnWillStab and gave him a thumbs up.
"You better get us double the cards for this," he exclaimed.
