《Binary Progression》Volume 1 - Chapter 26: Jerry?!

The party consisting of Arachnophobia the undead cat, JohnWillStab and Bonifacius was making its way through the forest with the cat in the lead.
"JohnWillStab: Why are there so many Jerrys here?!"
"Bonifacius: Could it be that the game is breaking?"
"JohnWillStab: The placement of the corpses seems too specific to be an accident."
The cat stopped at a crossroad in the forest, an ogre stood there with a large scythe strapped to his back along with a man, specifically Jerry.
The ogre's skin was blood red, his hair long and spiky, his teeth sharp and pointy like those of a shark.
He was wearing sandals, brown shorts and what looked like a Hawaiian shirt, except it was covered in magic runes.
A permanent expression of boredom imprinted on his face.
"XsuphicatR: Looks like the bait worked..." the ogre spoke as he turned towards JohnWillStab and Bonifacius
"Bonifacius: Greetings adventurer! We're on the search for a Jerry!"
The man reached for the scythe and started walking towards the party.
"XsuphicatR: If you want Jerry so much, come and get him..."
"JohnWillStab: Man, what's your problem?! We need him for a quest!"
"XsuphicatR: Wait, you two aren't NPCs..."
"JohnWillStab: Yeah! No s#*t!"
"XsuphicatR: I left some Jerrys in the forest, you can go pick one up..."
"JohnWillStab: We need the original!"
"XsuphicatR: Sorry, I need Jerry. He's my bait..."
"Bonifacius: Bait? Who could thou be trying to catch?"
"XsuphicatR: The "cloaked figure" - it's an NPC that's part of the Jerry quest..."
"XsuphicatR: The "cloaked figure" is meant to attack Jerry while you escort him back to the town, but it's bugged and will attack anything with "Jerry" in the name..."
"JohnWillStab: Wait, hold up! Are you the one who placed the Jerrys around the forest?!"

"XsuphicatR: Mm-hmm, I needed to get the "cloaked figure" back here at all costs - with such a high concentration of Jerrys it will flock here and I'll be able to take it out..."
"JohnWillStab: I can't imagine there'd be all that many NPCs called Jerry out there!"
"XsuphicatR: It's not just NPCs - players can be killed too..."
"JohnWillStab: I see... that still leaves me with one question."
"XsuphicatR: What is it..."
"JohnWillStab: Why are you ending every sentence with "..."?"
"XsuphicatR: ...no specific reason..."
"Bonifacius: So thou has noticed as well?"
"JohnWillStab: It's weird, right?!"
XsuphicatR used a programme outside of the game to duplicate Jerry, the second Jerry looked identical to the original.
"JohnWillStab: How'd you do that?!"
"XsuphicatR: I cheated..."
"JohnWillStab: Whatever the case - why don't you take the copy?"
"XsuphicatR: What do you mean..."
"JohnWillStab: Since a copy of Jerry will work fine, why don't you take the copy?"
"XsuphicatR: No way, I found him first..."
While the two argued Bonifacius looked at the "clone" of Jerry and noticed he's not exactly the same,
"Bonifacius: Upon further observation - I think our Jerry is broken."
JohnWillStab turned around to see that their Jerry's neck was limp and as a result, his head was limply hanging off the side of his torso - somehow he wasn't dead.
JohnWillStab turned back to XsuphicatR.
"JohnWillStab: Care to explain?"
"XsuphicatR: No two NPCs can have the same "ID", and "IDs" are assigned by the game based on the features of the npc..."
"JohnWillStab: So two of the same NPC can't exist so you snapped our Jerry's neck?!"
"XsuphicatR: Fine, I'll make you a new one..."
Another Jerry appeared - he looked virtually the same as the original, JohnWillStab carefully checked his body.

"XsuphicatR: Is this one alright..."
"JohnWillStab: I guess."
"XsuphicatR: Then go away - you'll just get in the way when my prey comes..."
Weirded out, both JohnWillStab and Bonifacius made their way back to the town, they looked back and noticed that Jerry wasn't following them.
"JohnWillStab: Our Jerry can't walk!"
"XsuphicatR: Try using a command..."
"JohnWillStab: ?"
"XsuphicatR: Like call him or something..."
"JohnWillStab: Alright?"
JohnWillStab calls out the name "Jerry"
"JohnWillStab: It's not working!"
"Bonifacius: I shall try!"
Bonifacius calleth the name "Jerry"!
Jerry switched from normal human animations to those of a four-legged creature as he rushed over to Bonifacius.
"JohnWillStab: ..."
"XsuphicatR: ......"
"JohnWillStab: Make a normal Jerry! The NPCs are going to notice this!"
"XsuphicatR: Christ, you're demanding..."
Another Jerry appeared, this time he was flopping around on the ground like a fish.
"JohnWillStab: THIS ONE THINKS IT'S A FISH!"
Fish-Jerry went limp as his health reached 0.
"XsuphicatR: Correction, it was a fish..."
"JohnWillStab: CAN I PLEASE JUST HAVE YOUR JERRY!?"
"XsuphicatR: No, there is no guarantee that another Jerry will work..."
"Bonifacius: Be at ease! We are all in the same boat here - we need Jerry, perhaps we could take turns?"
"XsuphicatR: That... could work..."
"JohnWillStab: Yeah! That all makes sense."
"Bonifacius: Alright, then let us assign dates for Jerry-keeping."
"JohnWillStab: We just need Jerry for today, we'll return him once we're done!"
"XsuphicatR: But I need Jerry as bait - I only need him for like a minute, but I don't know which minute that is..."
"JohnWillStab: How long have you been at this "bait" thing?"
"XsuphicatR: 4 months..."
"JohnWillStab: So you've been waiting for an NPC to come and find you for 4 months?"
"XsuphicatR: Right - the worst part is that I don't actually know the name of the NPC I'm trying to find..."
"Bonifacius: That must be why thou tried to attack us earlier!"
"JohnWillStab: So let's say the journey from here to the town takes us at most 30 mins - what are the chances that he'd come in those EXACT 30 minutes?!"
"XsuphicatR: I don't know..."
"JohnWillStab: Why don't you come with us... we'll return Jerry - then you take Jerry back, plus there is always a chance Jerry will be attacked while we're going back"
"XsuphicatR: I guess it's not exactly fair that I keep Jerry for myself, fine..."
"JohnWillStab: Alright! Let's get going!"
JohnWillStab led the way back, Arachnophobia following them, seemingly satisfied with the Jerry it found.
A dirt road led back to the town. JohnWillStab realised that if they followed the road they would have found Jerry without going through the fakes.
"Bonifacius: Hast thou really done nothing but wait for the killer this long?"
"XsuphicatR: Nope..."
"JohnWillStab: Still, you'd dedicate this much time to help out random Jerrys?"
"Bonifacius: Thou must truly be a great person!"
"XsuphicatR: If you say so..."
"Bonifacius: Thou can stock-up on supplies in the town."
"JohnWillStab: Yeah, how'd you survive in the woods without food? You're an ogre, right?"
"XsuphicatR: I've been eating berries..."
"JohnWillStab: Heh, wouldn't have thought of that!"
A moment of silence passed.
"XsuphicatR: Wait, are we going to the town..."
"JohnWillStab: Yeah - we have to return Jerry to his brother."
XsuphicatR stopped walking and turned back.
"XsuphicatR: Hmmm...I've changed my mind..."
JohnWillStab let out a sigh, "Of course this won't be that easy..."
