《A Bored Immortal's Adventure with Reincarnation》Chapter 20: Breakthrough.....In A Strange Way?

By the time I had finally finished releasing all the bindings on the teachers, a large amount of my appreciation had been eroded by my annoyance at the fact that since each magic circle took a different key, it took me longer than calculated to release all 900 or so teachers.
Dinner had ended an hour before I finished with the last toy *cough* person. Luckily, the teachers were quite eager to provide me with food, and I was treated several new delicacies that were generally not available to students.
The nice treats, and the delicate shudder of my sixth sense....or was it seventh?.......Well, whatever sense that alerted me to possible strong opponents, managed to keep me in a mainly cheerful mood, despite my irritation.
As soon as I had finished, I dashed out of the hall, leaving the hundreds of newly freed teachers who had no clue of what to do now alone without any instruction.
Eh, they're adults, they can handle themselves........probably~
Either way, I wasn't going to waste any more time on talking, now that a strong opponent is on the way I need to start training!
I skidded eagerly into my room and immediately settled down on my favored spot for mediation.
Due to travel time, it had been about three months since the Test, but my level was still at Hurricane level. Right before entering school, I had actually started feeling like I was going to reach a breakthrough, but.....welllll.....I had gotten a bit Distracted since....Ehe~
But No More! A strong opponent was coming, and I wanted to be able to play *Cough* fight with him properly!
I felt my mana and ki begin to cycle familiarly as soon as I dropped fully into a meditative state, I also began to reflexivly pull elemental power from the air around me into my ki core. The thick power gathered around the school was very beneficial for training, probably one of the main benefits of enrolling in a top tier.
I soon noticed there was something wrong with the ki in my body. The energy I was gathering was being sucked away......following the vanishing ki, I soon discovered the source of my problem.
......
"Void...Is there possibly something you want to tell me?"
-Nnn, I don't think so? Is something wrong Papa?-
"I see.......Then why are my wings absorbing all my ki?"
-Ah! P-Papa, It truly isn't' Void's fault this time, i-it's true that the wings should absorb tiny amounts of ki over time in order to grow, but it should definitely not be all of it, or even at a noticeable level, t-this is something Void is quite sure about!-
Hmmmm, it sounds like the idiotic parasite is telling the truth.......Which means the fault likely falls with the only other idiot I know that could have effected the wings........

I recalled my recent conversation with Fate.......Yep, the crybaby had most definitely added some things to make it more interesting.......it seems she's 'added' something to my wings......
But if they keep eating up all of my ki, who knows how long it'll take for me to breakthrough into high rank!
Frustrated, I began channeling as much energy as I could into the wings, these things Had to have limit to how much energy they could take!
I felt several days pass as I single-mindedly channeled energy into the two seemingly endless black holes on my back, pausing only to instruct Arvid to block off any access to my room when the knocks and worried shouts of Aaron and Adrian coming from my door became too distracting.
I was beginning to despair, as the sheer amount of energy I had poured into my wings seemed to changed nothing when, suddenly, my consciousness shut down.
..............
I woke to the feel of a cold liquid sliding down my back, my face pressed against a pillow......Strange, I don't remember getting to bed.......and there was a rather wet and heavy blanket pressing against my back.....
I stretched, preparing to get up and go back to meditation, when I felt a new set of nerves respond to urge to stretch, and suddenly the heavy wet blanket lifted off me.
No......Not a blanket, my wings!
I sniffed, and the smell of wet feathers and my own fresh blood filled my nose. Hmmmm, so these were the kind that burst out of the skin at the moment of full growth? No wonder I hadn't felt the energy causing any change to my wings...
"Arvid, what color are my wings!?"
The chicken-lizard's miserable life hangs in the balance!
"Ah! Boss, you're awake! I moved you to your bed after the wings finished emerging. I can't tell what color they are right now because they're drenched in blood, I was just about to start working on a cleaning spell when you woke up."
"Mmmm, it's a good thing I woke up when I did then, some types of wings can be quite sensitive to foreign magic, so it would be best to use a normal means of cleaning until I determine what exactly I have here"
"I see.....Then it was quite fortunate that Boss woke up when you did then......Well, then when Boss was meditating, I decided to enlarge the shower so it should be able to fit Boss and his new wings."
"Heh, excellent foresight as always Arvid, tell me what's been going on in school during my absence while I shower."
Stripping off a now completely ruined shirt and blood stained pants, I walked to the shower and let a slightly warm stream of water run down my back and onto my wings. Still tender from the recent emergence, my wings involuntarily flinched at the foreign contact.

"Hmmmmm, well lets see.......the first day, a few minutes after you left those teachers alone, they stormed the principal's office, beat him up, and locked him in the dungeon."
"We have a dungeon!? No, Wait, they did WHAT!?"
"They stormed the principa-"
"You don't actually need to repeat it, I was just venting my emotions. But Still! Those Idiots! Have they no sense of discretion! If they take such obvious actions, it'll be sure to draw attention, something that my plans aren't prepared for....Yet."
"....They almost did worse...."
".........Urk, just get it over with."
My just reward for actually trusting adults.
"After they locked the principal up, they started discussing how they should get rid of the 'replacement teachers', once I heard that, I blocked off any exit in the dungeon and trapped them there. They've been stuck there ever since, that Raina lady actually managed to break down a few walls until I gave her a message that you were behind it. I also left a note on the principals desk explaining that he and all the teachers missing were away dealing with a problem, so nothing has gotten too panicked, but there basically hasn't been any classes held since....."
"Good thinking Arvid, that should wage off most of the damaged caused, but still.........Do those teachers not have one crafty person among them!"
"Apparently not Boss......"
"Eh, whatever, hey Arvid, now that I'm thinking about it, take those magical beast skins and turn them into suitably extravagant clothes, with these wings, I'll have to move up the clothing plan if I want to make the biggest impact, oh, and see if you can dye them black as well. "
I stepped out of the shower and shook my wings dry, enjoying the feel of new muscles flexing under my control.
"Well, what do they look like?"
"Erm........Fluffy....and...............G-Gold......"
What The! THEY'RE GOLD!? But that Chicken-Lizard had said........
My killing intent surged and I began to stalk to my large bed where the PREY still slept unaware,
What would the best way to eat a chicken-lizard, barbeque? Spitted on a stick and roasted on a fire?.........OR Maybe Raw, Using His Fresh Scarlet Blood to Dye My Wings A Color Other Than GOLDDDD!!!!!!!!
"Ah! They just turned a murderous red!"
I froze on the spot, killing intent dissipating.
"What did you say?"
"Y-your wings Boss, they turned from gold to a bloody red!"
Could it be.......I began to visualize something in my mind.
"Ah, now they've turned black and are a lot sleeker too!"
Hmmmm, so my wings would change according to my will? This must be the little 'extra something' Fate had added.....
"It seems the Lizard-Chicken will live to see another day........"
Time to test how far they could change. I began imagining large black bat wings, suitable to what a devil would have.
"What about now?"
"Erm, they're still the same..."
"And now?"
"They're bright blue and a lot fluffier......"
So the change was limited to bird variant wing types.....Still......
"Puhahahaha, This Is Awesome!!!!!!!! So many tricks I could do......."
I could feel pure evil genius *cough* ingenuity surge joyfully around my soul, reaching a peak I had yet to experience in this world.
Suddenly, with this surge of mischievous creativity came a sharp pain in my chest that caused me to double over, wheezing in pain.
"B-Boss!?"
Another surge of pain came and I collapsed onto the floor, clutching my chest.
Sending a mental probe in the direction of the pain, I soon discovered the source of my problem.
My dark purple ki and blazing white mana cores were clashing against each other, every impact causing a fresh surge of pain. At the exact point of their interaction, a small glowing speck of light purple with red edges was slowly growing bigger with each contact.
Puhahahaha, my killing intent and evil *cough* dark emotions must have prompted the breakthrough into high rank, like how the high emotions of a life and death battle can do!
Another surge of pain rolled through my chest and my humor abruptly cut off, I heard nor read about this intense pain during a breakthrough in this world, and there was definitely nothing said about a new core forming!
Was this another one of Fate's little 'changes', like the wings had been? Or was it something else entirely!?
Before I think any more on the matter, my cores slammed together once more, far harder than any of the previous hits, my mind was wiped blank by the pain.
When the pain cleared enough for my thoughts to return, I found my mana and ki cores had settled quietly in an orbit around the slightly small new core.
Prodding gingerly at the new core, I realized it seemed to be some bizarre mix of ki and mana that hummed with a massive amount of energy.
Before I could investigate any further into the state of my new core, all three cores suddenly burned brilliantly and let of a massive flash of power.
The last thing I could remember before my brain defensively shut itself down was the feeling of every inch of my body burning with pain and energy.
Author's Note:
Sooooo sorry this chapter has taken so long to come out, I've been sick and just didn't have the energy to write. Also, with medicine I was taking, I was worried I might write something Truly Crazy~~

It was the dawn of a new age of man. . . until the thirst for more poisoned the new lords. Slowly, the thread that held humanity together loosened and a thick haze consumed the lands between. Mysterious vanishings, supernatural forces, and silence warns of a looming threat inside the coat of fog. Though the struggle of the realms did not interest Leor, for he was condemned as a Purblight, until he took a seemingly simple job: escort Alden to Lightendale and collect the handsome reward, a reward that would let him live the rest of his life with ease. But it’s never that simple, especially for someone who denounced the Gods. All his life, death followed Leor everywhere he went, cutting down his friends and family. When his first love died at the hands of an agent of light, he was prepared to throw everything away until a mysterious voice promised him a chance for retribution and a chance to bring her back by completing the seven trials. Thrown into the realm's struggle against the approaching haze and themselves, will Leor, a Purblight and an acquaintance of tragedy, use the very power he disdains to accomplish his goals?
