《Goblin Progenitor》6. Choice

Jon relaxed back onto his mother, lying in her embrace. Hruk had apparently taken the slap to the face and the impossible task to reach the goals against a superior foe, and climbed back onto the woman Emily. Jon breathed a sigh of relief, it was getting annoying to hold back that little bastard.
("...what should i do now... I have to think about myself?...But..")
Jon sighed because once his mother had finished the Magic Beacon spell, someone, would come to get her. The spell even implied it was used to teleportation assistance. That would mean someone, most likely Elven warriors or mages would show up, see their princess having been defiled, with a goblin baby on her. Knowing how royalty and nobility would handle unwanted children, which could range from expulsion or simply covering it up and placing the child somewhere else to be cared for or if the people involved were particularly cold murder the woman involved with her baby..
Jon simply could not see a how elves appearing would not instantly kill him to protect their princesses reputation. Even just the fact she had been captured - defiled - and forced to birth a horrible creature the enemy of their people, that would warrant a major cover up.. and getting rid of the evidence. Did she know that when she began her spellcasting?, is that why her grip on me is so tight. She is using me to get mana she must have noticed that our hands contacting each other allowed her to gain mana through the soul link, circumventing the Mana Lock Curse she had on her.
("...i can feel if i want to.. i can block the Soul link and cut off her mana.....but this would doom her to her continued defilement and eventual death in this hell..... One or the other.. one of us will die...")

While laying there in his mothers embrace, trying to think, he heard the other women in the room beginning to weep and shuffle about. The sound of more goblins babies have entered the room, hissing and making the odd gob noise, they were out of sight of his current position but he could guess they were all like Hruk, now trying their best to get food and torture their mothers. The timing of these births are weirdly coordinated..
This is what would be Mercia's remaining life if she could not escape.. lying in this pit - unable to move - unable to resist. Along with all the other victims in here. Suffering till the end. No matter how much he thought about wanting to save himself, he simply could not force the Soul link to be removed. Dooming this woman to this fate at the expense of his continued existence as what? A horrendous goblin that cause fear, misery and death where ever they go.
Jon closed his eyes and tried to relax whilst keeping a ear at the direction of Hruk, encase he decided to take his chances again. Trying to accept this horrible situation of having to sacrifice himself for this elf he knew nothing about, that most likely detested him to the core of her being. That to protect herself and her family name she would do... what?.. he did not know exactly.. he only had a guess.
Seeing her first fearful reaction and then her slowly accepting his hand on hers. Maybe there was a small chance.. But for now he tried to absorb this feeling of being embraced in a warm hug, one he could not remember having had in a very long while in his first life, and focusing the pleasant feeling.

Maybe he could ask her?. But no she was in stasis.. most likely to protect herself from any further assaults. Jon quickly asked for the Menu to bring up the spell Stasis to confirm that theory
_____________________________________________
[Stasis]
Target : One person who has to agree - cannot be forced.
Cost : 500 mana
The target of this spell becomes incredibly hard to damage/and stop requiring sustenance or taking further damage from either spell effects or wounds. The spell will also draw in ambient mana to fuel other spells cast on the target and keep them going for extended time past their duration (warning if the local mana ambiance is to low, all other spells will cancel out in favor of stasis) at the cost of being completely immobilized
Target awakens once a stated requirement has been fulfilled or ambient mana runs out.
This spell has the following effect modified by by the Highmage Xensalia Goldenbranch
"Elven Trances are not blocked by this effect"
_____________________________________________
Wow. That's quite an effective spell to save someone from the brink of death or in the case of a hopeless situation to wait for assistance. But what is an Elven trance. Maybe that's how she is still able to cast spells, being conscious enough for that. It reminded him of Elves from some fantasy stories and games that they did not truly sleep but simply focused their minds. Maybe she could only cast spells in this trance due to her state of paralyses.

("wait.. maybe if i could get free but remain in contact with her until she finishes her spell, then hide somewhere or try to get outside this room. Maybe we could both remain alive...")
As Jon thought that the entrance to the room suddenly opened up. In the doorway stood a imposing goblin, wearing wolf furs, bone amulets and metal chest armor. In his hand holding a murderous looking club with all kinds of spikes and odd crystals embedded inside it. Behind him the sound of many goblins yapping and screeching at each other.. The red eyes of the goblin staring at the women in the room from left to right. Ending his glare on Jon and Mercia.
("...family is here...")

Blood & Noodles
[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] As they always have, humanity hunts the gods roaming the world, craving the supernatural power that flows within their veins. Even a drop is zealously guarded, passed from master to student through the ages. It is with this stolen power that the Blooded - those with divine blood coursing through them - grasp beyond mortality and achieve prestige, power, and greatness. Yet, for every fraction of power gained, thousands perish, slain by the gods' supernatural prowess. But everything is beginning to change. Eight years ago, for the first time in human memory, a god was felled. Part-time chef and full-time nuisance Orvi wants nothing to do with gods. Living in a derelict city, his only concerns are ensuring his adopted family's restaurant is prosperous and how to best beat the neighbourhood boys in a fight. If he's lucky, he might even snag a date with the farmer's daughter at the market. But even though he cares nothing for the gods or their blood, the world won't leave him alone forever. Because to reach godhood, one must first leave their humanity behind. *** The first arc of Blood & Noodles follows the adolescent Orvi as he attempts to navigate his rapidly changing home and - by his own definition - protect his family. The story is told almost entirely in the first-person, from the perspective of a teenager who isn't always the sharpest tool in the shed. There are tragic elements, especially in the current arc. It's character-focused and driven, though the protagonist's shenanigans are backdropped by a world operating independently from him. Orvi's a generally light-hearted character, and though the story veers into darker territory, I also want it to be able to make readers smile. Action sequences, despite the fantastical elements, are meant to be grounded and clearly-conveyed; Orvi is a brawler, not a warrior. I'm trying to write a story that's enjoyable to read and flows nicely, mainly because it's more fun to write. I'm also trying to improve my writing, so any feedback, whether positive or negative, is welcome!

I, Mor-eldal: The Necromancer Thief
As a budding little necromancer, I soon discovered that the world of city people is complicated. When my master kicked me out of the cave, he warned me not to talk about my “dark” magic, because people here don't like the undead. I am not really an undead, I just have a skeleton hand, but it is better to be careful. Anyway, that's not my biggest worry. In the Black Dagger brotherhood, I learn a lot of things, such as illusionist magic, which turns out to be quite handy to survive in this maze of streets: in the Cat Quarter, we have thugs of all kinds that are best avoided. But we also have good people, goodhearted “gwaks”, as we say around here. Little did I know that I would soon be caught up in an infamous traffic that would entangle my life even more. With a mix of lighthearted adventure and picaresque, this story narrates the hectic life of a good-spirited street child and his companions in a medieval urban fantasy setting with some nineteenth-century influences. Updates Mondays and Fridays. This is a Creative Commons By work. It is a translation of a trilogy I wrote in Spanish between 2017 and 2018.
