《I Come From The Water》27: Its A Monster

(Lai POV)
I watched the prisoner closely. Even though she has been asleep for a long time there seems to be no abnormalities. Her banter with me was quite entertaining. However if she can banter with me she is abnormal. Not only that she has been telling nothing but the truth when I ask questions. She is not trying to hide anything.
Even when I asked her what she was, the answer was that I just have to find out. It wasn't a lie. She would tell me if I guessed right. However her confidence in the situation has me worried. She is chained to a wall but shows no issue with this.
When Minister Brea came something changed. I'm not sure what caused it but, her entire atmosphere changed. Gone was the playful girl and in came something else. I watched her as Minister Brea shouted in anger for no reason.
She leaned her head back as if fighting herself. With a deep breath she asked a question I had not expected. “Mr. Lai, how long have I been asleep?” It was funny that she called the one here to torture her 'Mr.' especially when she herself pointed out that I was a torturer.
“How dear you interrupt me peasant.” Minister Brea growled at her. Her eyes flew open and locked onto Minister Brea as if watching an entertaining animal. Her eyes no longer the light pink color that all albinos have, which is what I assumed she was. They were stained red. A deep crimson that reflected a cruel and violent nature.
Minister Brea shivered in face of those eyes. I could not blame him for this reaction but it was unwise to show such a thing to a predator, and that is what she is. Though what kind I do not know. As if to prove my thought a cruel smile surfaced on her face. To get her attention away from Minister Brea I answered.
“... About three days.” Two days of travel from Vasa City and one day in the cell. However she did not need to know this only the total number of days. Understanding flashed through her eyes but she never stopped watching Minister Brea.

“How could you just answer her like that!” Minister Brea yelled angrily at me. Apparently having regained his nerves after I spoke. “You are meant to interrogate her not answer her questions!”
“Now, now Fo... Brea I was answering Mr. Lai's questions until you came and interrupted. However if you would like to 'interrogate' me Brea, you are welcome to.” She turned her head suggestively. “That is if you can.” She provoked Minister Brea apparently finding delight in his anger. Her true goal still remained unknown however I feel that no one should go close. I am not sure what she stopped herself from saying but it doesn't give me a good feeling.
“You insulate wretch!” Minister Brea shouted. He was so far gone in anger that he missed her delighted giggle at his response to her. A shiver ran down my spine in warning. She is not something I can mess with.
Minister Brea grabbed his keys and opened the door to the cell while I wasn't paying attention. I grabbed his shoulder trying to prevent the situation from turning into something irreversible.
“Minister Brea I wouldn't do this. It would be best not to get to close to...” Minister Brea spun around and slapped me across the face. Completely ignoring the warning i was giving. Her smile widened at the sight and looked at me in warning as if saying 'do not interfere.'
I frowned as her eyes shifted back to Minister Brea who was walking closer to what could only be a dangerous entity. Minister Brea leaned forward his face centimeters from hers. “Now your place wretch. You are at my mercy. No one will help you and no one will come for you. You will die in this place.” His words harsh and would almost certainly bring most to tears however not her. Her smile gain a delighted hint at the corners and an air of satisfaction surrounded her.
I was to late in noticing. I am sorry Minister Brea it is my mistake for not stopping you with more force. I admit it was out of morbid curiosity that I did not try to hard and that slap to the face also helped to stay my hand. However I did not wish for this to happen, but thanks to your sacrifice I can say with utter confidence that this thing is not human. No its not even a demon. It is a monster born from our nightmares.

Before Minister Brea knew what happened her mouth grew wider with horrible sharp teeth. It was as if her jaw unhinged like a snake. She bit into Minister Brea's neck and tore his flesh. Blood spread everywhere coating her and the wall in blood. Minister Brea gargled one last indistinguishable word before the light died from his horrified eyes.
She chewed on the flesh and swallowed the blood as if it was the greatest thing in the whole world. Her eyes and mouth now twice as big as they were before. Slowly I shut the door and locked it trying to make as little noise as possible. I wish not to have her attention on me. Her continued interest in her 'meal' probable had everything to do with not eating for three days.
That is probable what the understanding was when I told her how long she had slept. What I don't understand is why she had only shown her interest in eating after Minister Brea walked in. Well it could be just has a preference. I have heard killers have a preference for a certain kind of victim. Why can't a monster.
Her long tongue flicked out licking up the blood pooling on the floor. Then with a sickening popping noise she munched on a bone she tore from the body. White claws grew where her fingernails should have been . Becoming over five centimeters long. She pulled forward trying to reach Minister Brea's body better but was stopped by the chains.
Confusion and then annoyance flashed across her face. She pulled her hands down in front of her so she could see the lock. I watched nervously at what I am sure was about to happen. She pulled out a strand of hair. Its silvery white color shined in the dim cell. She plunged it into the lock moving it around until a loud click was heard. The chains flew up above her pulled by the wait that now had nothing to counter it.
She looked up at me a wide smile on her face. Blood and flesh decorated her as if they belonged there. Despite everything she is still beautiful, and that scared me. It was as if she was made to use that to lure in human prey. Because looking at her now that's what we were to her.
“Having fun watching Mr. Lai?” She asked sweetly playing with a severed finger as if it was a candy. She looked as if she had succeeded in a prank. There was no remorse or discussed in her over the fact that she was eating a human. If anything she just looked greatly satisfied. “Really it has been so long since I have eaten a human. I was doing so well. However Mr. Lai you people of this Church just had to knock me out and then place this delectable morsel in front of me.”
She tsked at me like I was a naughty child. I just watched in silence. It did not seem she expected an answer because she continued. “You asked to know what I am. Look in your books about creatures of water. Maybe you will find your answer. However I suggest you do it quick. I am leaving as soon as I finish my meal. Also leave my stuff there. I wouldn't have to come find it now would I.”
I nodded my head in response. There was nothing I could do about this monster. It would seem that we needed that Hero after all. For only a monster can fight a monster. I walked away leaving the creature to her meal. I will look in the books like it suggested. My Solace will be angry at me for letting it go, especially after it killed Minister Brea. However for that I ask that my Solace be the one to catch it. I wash my hands of this creature.
For I know not why it speared me, but I will not risk it again.
