《I Come From The Water》26: Predator Or Prey?

(Lave POV)

A dark and dingy room greeted me when I opened my eyes. I shifted slightly feeling chains scrape violently against the skin around my wrists. Pain shot through my body where I was smashed into that wooden beam and the cold air only intensified the feeling.

All in all I wasn't very conferrable in my new room. I wonder what would happen if I asked for a new one. Chuckling quietly to myself I examined my surroundings ignoring the pain. The room looked to be about four by four meters with absolutely no decorations. Boring grey rock coated the walls and framed what appeared to be thick iron bars. Torches light up the hallway causing interesting shadows to dance along the walls.

Another cell could be seen across from me but it didn't look like anyone was in there at the moment. Pulling my arms down so that I could examine the shackles I saw that they had a large key hole that locked the two together. A large smile broke out on my lips while looking at it. If you could unlock it, both your hands would be freed at the same time.

I leaned my head against the wall trying to stifle the laughter that was threatening to bubble up. Really this is to easy. I almost feel sorry for the enemy. Not that I know who that is. With a huff I managed to calm down. I haven't been in such an amusing situation in a long time. The last time was when I was chained to a cinder block and left to drown. I laughed so hard that day that it took me a good three hours to escape the chains.

Well I guess I should stay here for now. I don't know where they took my stuff and I would like to learn more about the Imperious Church. On the other hand I am really hungry... I stared at the ceiling as if it held the answer to my predicament while letting the chains pull my arms back up above my head. The noise echoed through out the area.

Apparently that tipped the guards off that I was awake. A door somewhere down the corridor slammed open and stomping feet slowly made their way towards me. Well that solves it! My mood still running high. Oh, maybe the guard will have food!

A man with clean cut gold blond hair, horrible scared face, and a unfeeling look in the eye stopped in front of my room. “Welcome to the Imperious Church, Demon. My name is Lai. You and I will become very well aquatinted with each other while you are staying here.” His voice steady without a trace of emotion and that clean cut black and red uniform sobered me slightly.

“Don't you know that it is very rude to call a lady a 'Demon' Mr. Lai?” I questioned with a raised eyebrow. “It would seem that your mother raised you without any manners. I'm sure she is disappointed in you where ever she is.”

“Forgive me. It is what I was told you were. If you are not a 'Demon' then what might you be?” His face never changed even though this conversation was quite funny. I like this human. I feel like I can play with him for a while before he would died. He also has a pretty good since of humor for a torturer. There's no way I would miss the wonderful display of knifes and other goodies attached to his belt.

“Now that is very rude. First you call me a Demon and now you question weather or not I'm human.” I shake my head in mock disappointment while crossing my legs to sit up straiter. “As a torturer I would expect you to be able to tell fact from fiction. Otherwise you wouldn't be very good at your job, now would you.”

“I can tell fact from fiction as you call it, and that is why I am asking what you are. You are not human. However I can tell that you have told the truth about not being a demon as well.” He lend lightly against the bars but made no move to enter the room. “Now that leaves us with finding out what you are.”

“No just you. I know what I am. So it is up to you to find out.” I smiled as I watched him. No feeling showed on his face although I a pretty sure that most people would have been angry or at least annoyed with me by now.

“I see.” Lai leaned down and picked something up from behind the wall. It was one of my pouches. So my stuff is right here? “Why don't you tell me what some of this is.” He pulled out a bottle.

“Eye drops. In fact would you mind passing those to me. I could really use it.” He raised an eyebrow at the cloudy purple vile, but still nodded while placing it back into my pouch. He went to pull out something else however the door slammed open again.

Quick angry steps sounded letting me know this person was very unhappy. “What is taking so long Lia?!” Now this is a pretty little thing. My thoughts turning slightly dark. I was having so much fun with Lai. Usually I don't play around so much but I am pretty hungry. I wonder how long its been since I have eaten.

“Minister Brae.” Came the calm reply. “I am interrogating the prisoner now. I would...” Minister Brae cut his hand through the air in a gesture for silence. His white and silver robes hung loosely on his body leaving much to the imagination.

His long blond braided hair swung back and forth with his wild gestures reveling his lack of combat knowledge. Such a defenseless animal has presented itself in front of me. All it would take is just one little... I cut my thoughts of with great difficulty. I closed my eyes and forced my mind to focus on something else.

Taking a deep breath I smelt the obvious stench of human. Of prey. “Mr. Lai,” I cut into the middle of the Food's talking. “How long have I been asleep?”

“How dear you interrupt me peasant.” Came Food's growl of anger. Its furry only entertained me and in excitement I locked eyes with Food. It shivered in fear but held its ground. Come proud prey show me what you will do. A cruel smile surfaced as I watched Food's every move. How will you run?

“... About three days.” Three days is it. Far to long. Food regained its voice when Lai spoke. Lai is not food as he smells of blood and death he is another predator. Something to toy with not eat, but Food oh you look so delicious. Just come closer Food, I will make it quick.

“How could you just answer her like that!” Food shouted in anger. “You are meant to interrogate her not answer her questions!” Food's anger is so sweet. Its like a wonderful seasoning. Come Food become more angry.

“Now, now Fo... Brea I was answering Mr. Lai's questions until you came and interrupted. However if you would like to 'interrogate' me Brea, you are welcome to.” I turned my head suggestively. “That is if you can.” Food is fuming.

“You insulate wretch!” Food pulled keys out from its pocket and fumbled with the door. A delighted giggle escaped me as Food was voluntarily giving up its life. Lai grabbed Food's shoulder stopping him from stepping through the door.

“Minister Brea I wouldn't do this. It would be best not to get to close to...” Food spun around and slapped Lai across the face. Look Lai that's what you get for interfering with another's meal. Food walked up to me shaking it was so angry. My smile only grew. Come closer Food I am chained right now. Come look I am no threat to you.

Food leaned forward its face centimeters from mine. Its breath stunk as it breathed in my face completely unaware of the danger. However that's what's good about Food. Its stupid. “Now your place wretch. You are at my mercy. No one will help you and no one will come for you. You will die in this place.” Food's smile was cruel as if happy with what it said. However Food those words are meant for you.
