《I Come From The Water》21: Welcome To Vasa

(Lave POV)
We hid in the tall grass off the road peaking at the walls surrounding the port town Vasa. After six long days of dodging Church dogs we finally made it to our destination, only to have to sneak in. I glanced at Amice and Gran who are discussing infiltration plans. Really this was getting more and more annoying as time went on.
“There is no way that will work. It would be better to sneak in through the drainage tunnel.” Gran argued. “At least there will be little chance of being seen by the guards.”
“Maybe the guards won't see us but how are we supposed to go through the drainage tunnels? They are barred off. Unless you have something that can cut through iron it wont work.” Amice huffed while tapping her foot. “It is much easier to go through the gate. Sure its a risk but if we do it right then no one will know.”
“And how would we do that right. No one in this group has anything that will let them blend into a crowd. Its like we are just screaming to be seen. We will be discovered immediately and arrested.” Gran ran his fingers through his hair in frustration. “Maybe there is a door somewhere in the wall that is used by the thieves? If we search the wall then we just might find it.”
“And what if there's not? We are now trapped out side the wall in a easy to view area. We will be shot. I would much rather be arrested then shot with an arrow.” The argument continued on, what would be the best way to brake into the town. Neither one happy with the planes the other was suggesting.
I looked back over Vasa seeing people shuffle around buying and selling their wares. Looking further out boats where docked with people dragging nets of fish down the pier. People sorting out the species and distributing them around the markets. Sighing at the scurrying Humans I looked even further out into the horizon.

The setting sun shimmering off of the crystal blue surface. Creating the illusion that the water is on fire. The wind blew the smell of salt water directly into my nose telling me just how close I was. It may not be my ocean but at least it was something I am familiar with. Taking a deep breath I can almost taste the water that is so close to me.
Slowly but surly the sun set below the horizon causing darkness to descend. As the last rays of light left the land I stood up causing Amice and Gran to look at me.
“Um, Lave? What are you doing?” Asked Gran while looking around nervously. “Your going to expose us.” I walked forward down the hill ignoring him. Expose? What does it matter? While they spend hours arguing about the best way to brake into town, I am going to do it. Talking isn't going to solve this situation.
I stretched my arms and loosened up my fingers as I headed strait for the wall. Right now the guards where focused on lighting torches and weren't paying attention. Spotting an exposed beam sticking out of a guard tower, I pulled a knife out twirling it to build up momentum. Now. I launched the knife. When it was level with the beam I jerked the wire making it wrap around.
No one noticed the knife or the wire that ran down the outside of the wall. Pulling it a couple times I made sure it could hold my weight. Red scales coated my hands to prevent them from getting cut as I quietly climbed the out side wall.

(Amice POV)
I watched as my beautiful Lave silently climb the defensive wall. None of the guards noticed as they were too busy chatting with their friends while lighting the torches. In the blink of an eye Lave was at the top. She snuck her way across the wall and began repelling down the other side. I whistled in admiration.

“Would you look at that Gran. Lave already made it into town without anyone noticing.” A blur moved through the air and dislodged the dagger imbedded in beam. Both daggers descended quickly into town. “Really does make you wonder what she does for a living.” I turned to Gran only to see him staring blankly.
Snickering I began walking to the gate. “Come on Gran if we don't hurry we'll lose Lave. Lets just go through the gate. Unless you can scale a wall.” With a tsk he pulled his hood up hiding his face. If everything went well then we could just walk into town.
“You are both insane.” Gran whispered beside me. “How can you just walk into a trap? They know we are coming for the boat.”
“You worry to much.” Back on the main road I set a casual pace. “Even if it is a trap what does it matter? We just have to make sure not to be caught. And unlike you two I am still not wanted.” At least not in this town.
“Your only not wanted because the Church hasn't figured out you are traveling with us. If they did you would be at the top of the list.” I walked up to the gate with a big smile.
“Good evening. How is the guarding going?” One of the Guards laughed.
“Well about as well as always. May I see your card little lady?” Passing the card I watched the other guard out of the corner of my eye. He stood there with a board expression not even pretending to care. “Amice Hill is it?”
The other Guard's eyes flashed as he looked me up and down. “From the Hill family?” He asked.
“Yep, thats the one.” Gran shifted nervously behind me. “I take it you know of my Mom and Dad.”
“Of course! Every one knows of Priestess Isda and Sword Master Hal.” He said ecstatically. “What brings you here to Vasa?”
“Sightseeing. I've never been to Vasa before. I just wanted to see what it looks like.”
“And who is this behind you?” The Guards eyes where twinkling. No doubt he thought that it was someone famous.
I made an annoyed face. “Sigh, this is Gran. Even though I wanted to go sightseeing by myself Mom wouldn't let me. Gran here is my bodyguard.”
“Well that's only to be expected Miss. Hill. It is dangerous to wonder alone and even more so for you.” The guard handed my card back. “Please come in and welcome to Vasa. If you need anything don't hesitate to ask the guards around town.” I smiled and walked through the gate with Gran following closely behind. This is to easy.

A New Leaf
When people mention fantasy games and RPGs, they usually think of goblins, elves, orcs, dwarves and magic (apart from the percentage that gets an image of an anti-tank weapon in their mind, I will respectfully put those individuals aside for now). But what if you get neither of those (not even the weapon, I know, sad)? And what if you end up playing as something that doesn't look like an animal at all? And what if the said game you were playing weren't actually a game, but real life changed by irresponsible, beyond-mortal beings? Follow the (mis)adventures of "player" 13241, a.k.a. Treant, as he experiences what it's like to be a walking magical fruit maker (among other things). When the world goes to hell and back, plants are the ones that remain, right?
