《I Come From The Water》19: True Intentions

(Lave POV)
It has been three days since I learned enough of the language to communicate. Gran and I are sitting in a tree out of sight, as Amice gathered some food form the town in front of us. For some unknown reason Gran was unwilling to go into town, and I couldn't go into town unless I wanted to be arrested.
Apparently its consider a capital offense if you attack their 'Holy Knights'. Which just shows how much power the church holds on this continent. In my experience that is never a good thing. Maybe if it was a peaceful religion but this one obviously wasn't.
I stretched while shifting into a more comfortable position. “So Gran, why wont you go into town?” Gran shrugged.
“Well I couldn't leave you alone.” He said with a smile making me burst out laughing. Couldn't leave me alone? Isn't it better to have someone with Amice?
“Oh, come on Gran you and I both know that's a lie. I also know that Gran isn't your real name.” I said with a light knowing smile. “Now why don't you tell me what's really going on.” He just watched me silently. “Or should I say what I already know?”
As Gran just continued to glare at me I pulled out a sheet of paper that has Gran's face on it. “First your name isn't really Gran. However I don't know what it actually is as I still can't read this blasted language. I could always ask Amice to tell me what it says, though.” He squinted his eyes at me trying to figure out what I was getting at. “It really is an amazing likeness, isn't it.”
“Not that its important. I couldn't care less what your name really is. What I want to know is why you are traveling with us?” My smile dropped. “For some reason you are wanted by the Church. And while I don't care what the rules of this Church are. I do care if you are going to drag me into something troublesome.”

I stabbed the paper into the tree trunk. “Now why don't you tell me what you want. I'll decide what to do from there.” Gran opened his mouth. “Think carefully about what you say. I'm not known for my patience, and I have had a really stressful week and a half. Don't give me a reason to take it out on you.”
“Fine.” He clipped as he took a deep breath. “My name is Gram Conner. An Explorer from the content Zell. I came to this content to see what was here. In fact i have been to several other islands besides this one.” He said as if he was waiting for me to gasp in surprise. Disappointed by my lack of reaction he continued.
“One day while I was exploring a city near the ocean I got in trouble for having counterfeit money. Of corse it wasn't counterfeit I just accidentally pulled out the money from my home when I went to pay.” Gran looked offended that they would even think that. “I was arrested by the guards and interrogated. In the process they found out that I wasn't from here.”
“Before I knew what was happening I was transferred to a prison in the Church. They tortured me to get as much information about Zell as they could. One night I overheard one of the guards talking.” Wait, no... “They were planing to go and take over my home.” No no no! “They were saying that we were a country of Demons that needed to be exterminated from this world. And in the name of their God they were going to start a holy war.”
Why do you hate me! I looked up at the sky in exasperation. “I must hurry to Zell and let my king know. The only way to do that is to get to my boat in Vasa.” Heaving a sigh I looked at Gran. He looked determined to complete his task and a pain in the ass to be around. Why did it have to be a Holy War? Not that he killed someone or was a criminal from the underworld. I could deal with that. But no it had to be some random Holy Crusade.

The only good thing about this is that he was going to the ocean. So he could at least take me there. But I'll be damned if I am helping in this ridiculous war. “I see.” I said carefully. “Well good luck with that. I'll travel with you until Vasa, but no further.”
Gran relaxed when I said this. “I wouldn't have it any other way.” We turned back to watching the road for Amice.

(Amice POV)
I am currently examining the goods in the connivance store. Lave and Gran sent me to town to gather food for the rest of the trip to Vasa. My lovely Lave no longer runs from me. However I still can't touch her. Every time I try to she attempts to stab me with one of her exotic daggers. She's so shy. I chuckled to my self.
She told me that the dagger was made out of some sort of sea monster called a Whale. Truly interesting I want to see a Whale. Placing the food on the counter I payed. I'm sad that Lave can't wonder around town with me right now, but that should change when we cross the province border. Right now there are wanted posters up everywhere for her.
Ripping a poster off the wall I folded it up and placed it in my pocket. I wonder what Lave will say when she sees it. I skipped my way down the street dodging people as I went.
