《I Come From The Water》6: So We Camped

(Lave POV)
It was now night time. We had walked down the road for the rest of the day in what I assume is towards a town. We haven’t seen another person all day. On another note while walking I would some times catch the girl staring at me. For the first few hours when she stared I would shudder. However now I’m used to it.
‘We’ decided to camp off the road in the blasted forest for cover. When I suggested (pointed at) the plains just over the hill to camp she laughed nervously and shook her head. The only good thing about this is that the river ran along the road the entire time. So nice. I can be clean and rehydrate myself.
The girl was gathering some fire wood and creating a temporary shelter. It was hideous. There was no way it would stand against any sort of weather. Sticks where sticking up everywhere making it look like a porcupine with some sap dripping down from where she cut the wood. Really what a disgrace.
I sat in a tree eating what I assume is something like an apple. It was perfectly round, bright red, and incredible juicy. The tree was full of them. I grabbed a cloth from one of my pouches and filled it with these ‘apples’. The girl tried to take it from me earlier which is why I was sitting in the tree out of her reach.
I’m sure it is something poisonous to humans and usually I try to stick to what humans eat, but this was to good to pass up. Every once and a while she would look over here in concern but I just ignored it. I planed on sleeping up here tonight. Sure I am going to travel with this weird girl, but I didn’t trust her. I was going to keep as much distance from her as possible. Especially while I was sleeping.

Plucking the seeds out of the fruit I placed them in one of my pouches. Maybe I can grow some of these close to home.

(Grey Eyed Girl POV)
We had walked for hours along the road. Somehow I have convinced Lave to travel together. At first she was really reluctant and even threw knifes at me but now she just glares. Just like a cat. Huhuhu. I found out that Lave has seven strange knives strapped somewhere on her body.
When I saw the first one this morning I was enchanted. What was it made of? Who made it? Can I have one? I reluctantly gave the knife back to Lave while we were walking. I will get the information out of her eventually, but first we need to be able to talk to each other.
Really where was she from. She doesn’t talk much but when she does it is enchanting. I could listen to that voice all day. And her singing, sigh. While walking I noticed a light red tribal tattoo that ran from her neck down to her lower back. It was unlike anything I’ve ever seen. I have heard stories of secluded groups of people that would mark there warriors with tattoos. Maybe she is from there. It would explain a lot about her and why she can’t speak Common.
When I suggested that we camp for the night in the forest Lave glared at me and pointed to the plains. Haha, did she forget that we are being persuade by this provinces guards? While she was obviously unhappy about being in the forest for some reason, she immediately brightened up once she saw the river.
She walked strait into the water cloths and all and began to wash the dirt from the road off. Won’t the knives rust? In all honesty I would love to see her with her cloths off. Huhuhuhuhu. Oh not good. I wiped the drool from my mouth. Lave didn’t seem to mind that I was watching her. Nice.

Every time the water slid down her skin it would glitter causing an almost surreal effect. So pretty. She bent down and picked something up. When she turned around I panicked. “Lave, put the fruit down.” I said trying to sound calm. Lave just stared at me while eating the fruit. Not good, not good I forgot she wouldn’t understand me. “Lave, give me the fruit. You shouldn’t eat that. It will kill you.” I reached out to grab it but she backed further into the water to avoid my hand her eyes narrowing.
This isn’t good. What she was eating was known as the Red Death. Beautiful and smelled sweetly but would kill you just as quickly. Worried I ran into the water and tried to take it from her. She dodged my charge by sliding her foot along the bottom of the river letting the flow carry her far enough away. “Lave, this isn’t a joke.” I spun sending water flying trying to grab the fruit.
Lave smiled jokingly and slid out of reach again. Really now! This trade continued for a good thirty minutes with her taking a bite of the fruit every once and a while. By the end of it she had eaten the whole thing and walked out of the water as if the ‘game’ we were playing was done.
I was panicking. She ate an entire fruit. No one lives past the first bite. Watching her I saw her pull another fruit out from god nows where and start eating it. Rushing out of the water I grabbed this fruit and threw it away as quickly as possible. Lave’s eyes widened when I threw the fruit away. Breathing heavily I turned to her and said very slowly with hand motions. “Do not eat the fruit. It will kill you.”
She just glared at me making me think that she didn’t understand. Then she turned and jumped up into a tree where the fruit grew. She sat down on a branch near the top and began eating a third fruit. With a happy expression on her face. I started sweating just looking at this scene. Taking a deep breath to calm myself down I tried to look on the bright side. It hasn’t killed her yet. Maybe she will be fine, hahaha. Not good even my mental laughter is nervous.
Sighing I began making a shelter to stay in during the night, and gathering fire wood. Hopefully I could keep the fire going all night to keep the misquotes away. I watched the sky darken and decided that it would be best to go without food tonight. I really didn’t want to fight off any wild animals that would come lured by the scent. I’ll eat in the morning.
