《I Come From The Water》3: I Am Not A Bandit

I smiled joyfully looking at the seen before me. Limbs lay strewn randomly along the road or hanging in trees. Expressions of horror and pain where plastered on their faces as they experienced the last bit of life they had left before dying. I stretched my muscles after my little exercise.

While their skill was poor I took my time slowly destroying them. It was really great stress relief after walking in this blasted forest all day.

Looking over the men that now lay in pieces on the ground I realized that they had on some really fancy cloths. With little puffed out sleeves that had delicate weaving on it. Detailed embroidery decorated their cloths causing it to be unnecessarily fancy. Especially for walking through the woods.

I frowned and looked down at myself. A pitch black bra top to leave as much of my tattoo visible, and a pair of black bicycle shorts. Two leather belts criss crossed over the top of each other holding my knives and pouches. I was bear foot as I hated wearing shoes. Am I under dressed for this place?

Shrugging my shoulders I crouched down and started rummaging through the mens cloths. I smiled when I found what I was looking for. Money. Well what I guess is money. There were a lot of coins of varying sizes, shapes, and color. Even the picture stamped onto the lumps of metal where different.

I frowned looking at my prize. This was going to be just as annoying as learning a new language. Sighing I placed the money into one of my pouches. Judging by the clothes that these people where wearing it couldn’t be far to a town. Turning around I headed off in the direction that I hope was a town, city, farm, abandoned building, just something because I am not spending the night here in this forest. Or so help me I will find a way to burn it to the ground.

After what I feel was the longest four hours of my life I have reached a … city. Or whatever this place considers a city. High stone walls covered the city from prying eyes. Guards stood at the gates even though it was already way into the night.

I walked up to the guards with a smile on my face. I really want to spend the rest of the night under a roof. As I got closer the guards called out to me. “ተወ! የእርስዎ ንግድ እዚህ ላይ ምንድን ነው?” Shit I forgot that I don’t understand the language.

Stopping a good meter from them I waved and tried to act as innocent as possible. “Umm, Hi?” And with that one of them lunged his spears at me. I’m getting really tiered of this.

(Unsuspecting Guard POV)

Grell and I were guarding the gate during the graveyard shift. I wasn’t supposed to be here at first but then I lost a bet to the guy who had this shift originally. Damn it, who would have thought that that pretty little lass would really go on a date with the Captain.

I sighed in disappointment. Stretching my aching back Grell hit me. “What?” I spat out in annoyance.

Grell just pointed into the distance. “What’s that?” Squinting my eyes I saw a shadow of a woman walking our way.

“Ho, it looks like a beautiful woman.”

“Yeah? But what is a woman doing coming out of the Cursed Forest in the middle of the night?” Gulping once the figure got close enough we called out.

“Stop! What is your business here?” The ‘Woman’ tilted her head to the side. The moon shined off of her beautiful white and red hair. She had a bright smile on her face with cute little freckles dashed across it. Almost as if they were splattered.

“Wait…” I whispered out loud. “Those aren’t freckles…” Realization dawned on me. She was coated in blood. Dried blood! It coated her body as if complimenting her pink eyes.

Grell started shaking. “I-I said halt!” He yelled trying to sound intimidating, but the stutter at the beginning gave away his fear.

I grabbed his shoulder with one hand trying to steady my nerves. “Keep it together Grell it’s only a woman.”

“Are you sure about that Tom. I mean that ‘woman’ just came out of the woods covered in what looks like fresh blood. I mean she doesn’t even look human!”

“If she wasn’t human what would she be?” I shot Grell a glare while we had our spears lowered at the woman in front of us. She had stopped a meter away from the tip giving us and her plenty of room.

“A ghost.” Grell whispered

“What?”

“A Ghost!! Tom. A Fucking Ghost!!” Grell shouted startling me.

“She’s not a ghost Grell.” I growled out.

“Really? And how do you know that?” I could see the whites of his eyes. He was panicking.

“She was stopped by the spears you fool! What ghost would be afraid of spears?” The girl gave no sign of moving from her spot.

“I don’t know?! One pretending to be human!”

“That’s just stupid.” As Grell and I were arguing the girl opened her mouth.

“ሠላም, እሺ?” She said in a soft melody like voice while waving her hand. I smiled and took a step forward enchanted by her voice.

“Stop it you vile witch!” Grell yelled as he lunged forward with his spear with every intention of impaling the poor beauty.

“Grell stop I..” Then everything went black.
