《Throne of Blood》Chapter 35 - Entrance Trials(1)

***Four Years Later****
Unceasing chatter sounded in the grand halls of a magnificent castle. The brightly lit halls shared the same vigor as the students' aspirations. Students were moving in a rush, throughout the corridors, trying to accomplish their tasks within time. It was an important day at The Academy of Baelor, it was the day of entrance trials. Many aspiring young children would come to challenge the entrance trials. The responsibility of making the day successful fell on the shoulders of third year students. One of the young third year students, Aston Waller, was rushing towards his destination with hurried steps. He passed many young aspirants, who were vying to get selected today. It was an absolute honor, after all.
Aston Waller entered a small room, situated at the end of the corridor. Three other third year students were scribbling away on the mountain of paper kept in front of them.
"Is everything ready?" Aston Waller asked tensely. He was given this great responsibility by the headmaster himself.
"Almost done. Have Professor Willem and Professor Cecilia reached the venue?"
"Yes. I've just come back from confirming that. They should have started the screening process already."
"Very nice. Alright. We will come after submitting the paper work. You go and save us some good spots, Aston."
Aston bid his friends farewell as he left the room. He crossed many faces, some new and some familiar. Aston had crossed the corridor when he heard someone calling from behind.
"Hey Sir, excuse me. You're a student here, right? Can you please tell us the way to the Main Training hall?"
A boy, with greenish orange eyes, asked Aston politely. The boy sported clothes that were red in colour while his half Cape was golden. A sword, with a golden hilt with an embedded red dragon on it, was hung from the boy's side.

'Seems like a child from High Nobility.' Aston thought, 'What a tacky sword.'
"Of course. Are you here for the entrance trials?" Aston inquired.
"No." A voice from behind the boy interrupted the conversation. Aston noticed another boy, with odd coloured eyes, one blue and one black, wearing a fitting black suit with a blue half Cape on his shoulders. A pretty blue pendant was hanging from his neck but his face left much to be desired. The boy's eyes were droopy, glancing around as if he found everything uninteresting; he wore a frown on his forehead and looked at Aston with a very annoyed expression.
"I'm here to walk my human shaped animal. His name is Sirius, and No, you cannot pet him." The boy spoke while walking up to Aston. Aston noticed that the boy with odd eyes had a large spear, far larger than the boy's own stature, strapped on his back. Aston glanced at both of them and simply stated, "You know there was no need to bring weapons, right?"
The two boys turned to each other, seemingly communicating with their eyes, and the one with orange eyes spoke, "Actually, this sword is a part of my body. We were born together and this is basically my limb. It also has my soul trapped in it and sometimes it even grants me wishes. And it also talks. So, basically I can’t remove it.”
Aston stood still for a while, listening to the nonsensical answer that he had just heard and then glanced at the boy with odd eyes.
"Well, my legs have gone weak with age. My child has left me all alone and only this spear remains as my support. Also, I would need it to dig my grave when I’m at the end of my natural life."

The boy with the sword laughed out loud after hearing that answer. He stopped, after a few moments, and said to the boy with the spear, "Yeah, yours was better."
Aston looked at the two boys, giggling at each other and asked them to come along. "Nice jokes, by the way I'm going the same way if you want to tag along. My name is Aston Waller, third year."
“Hello Mr. Aston Waller Third Year. I’m Sirius, and he is my sidekick, Mehr, the funny guy.”
“Sure.”
*********************
Mehr, Sirius and Aston soon entered the Main Training Hall. The middle arena had been cleared entirely and a number of people were sitting in the audience watching the prospective students. Two seats were kept to the side of the middle arena, where an old man and a young lady were sitting. Students, existing or prospective, paid their respects to the pair of professors. The announcer was standing beside the pair of professors and would amplify his voice with mana, everytime he would call someone’s name. Mehr looked around and found that the entire hall seemed to be teeming with children from nobility. Faces, smug and otherwise, were visible in the entire arena.
The three boys walked upto the counter placed at the entrance of the hall. A girl, not more than 16, was sitting and writing away the names of prospective students.
"Hey Angela, I brought some kids with me." Aston spoke, looking at Mehr and Sirius who were almost as tall as him but two years younger. "This is Angela Bertram, she is a fourth year."
"Hello Miss Bertram Fourth Year. I'm Sirius and this is my friend Mehr." Sirius said, in his usual chirpy voice. Angela looked at the pair of boys, with their weapons in tow. One was smiling warmly, while the other looked at her as if she was an annoyance.
"Your name and Your House name." Angela said in a dry tone.
"Mehr, none." Mehr, leaning on his spear, spoke while looking around the hall.
Angela looked up from the paper she was writing at, and locked eyes with Mehr. "A commoner?" She asked. Mehr simply replied with a curt nod.
"Commoners are being screened in the sub hall, Aston. Don't increase my work, please." Angela chided while shooing away the three people.
"He is with me." Sirius interrupted. He moved up to the table and spoke politely, "I'm a noble and I think I can take one person with me inside."
Angela looked at Sirius for a moment and replied curtly, "No, you can't. Your name and your House name, please."
"Sirius, House Frye."
Angela's hand stopped abruptly as soon as she heard Sirius. Aston snapped his head towards Sirius and gawked at him intensely. Angela's mouth remained open as she tried to make sense of the situation.
“F-Frye? The House Frye?”
From the side, in his familiar sarcastic tone, Mehr spoke while leaning on his spear, "Looks like you broke them."
