I finished brainstorming and used my observe skill to analyze my foe. My eyes took on a weird tint as a window suddenly popped in front of me.

The man had a lot of handy abilities I had yet to personally experience. He could create, refine and imitate new drugs as well digest them instantaneously. He most certainly wanted to use me as his guinea pig. I clicked on the special skills and examined them in more detail, one of them seemed peculiarly ominous.
[Medicine Injection: The user can use his whole body as a weapon to inject himself or others with medication, drugs, narcotics and all sorts of poisons. The current devil fruit holder has yet to master the ability so he can only use it in close combat...]
I was a bit scared, to be honest. Not scared because I feared Lewis or his narcotics, but because I saw how dreadful devil fruit users were. This devil fruit in particular offered room for too many possibilities, either offensive, defensive or supportive. Healing could even be achieved if used properly.
I did not know what the observe skill meant by "awakening" but it most certainly was related to the fruit's potential. This was a whole new world for me and I would have to ask the system for more details later. My interest was piqued after taking a look at this fellow; I never really planned to use fruits myself, but if I could get my hands on this one I could do something useful with it. The real problem was that I did not really know how it would affect my body so I was reluctant to eat one. But there were still people who could eat it; my future allies.

"System what happens to the ability when a devil fruit user dies?" I was wondering if the ability would completely vanish from this world's records if Lewis happened to die. I was hoping the system could figure this out for me. He was a higher existence that came along with me when I was reborn in this world. He never really explained to me why I was chosen or even where he came from, but he had to be related to a higher being or something. That would be the only reason to justify his knowledge and capabilities. Who could make me avoid death and cross dimensions besides a divine being after all?
Looking at things logically, the system had to know everything about this world, even things as weird as devil fruits. If he did not tell me it would only be to make things more challenging or because it was an important secret. Most of the time though, my system always helped me with things that would aid my growth.
"When a devil fruit user dies, the demon inside the person escapes the corpse and takes refuge inside the nearest fruit. This is not public knowledge but it is something most marines and pirates know already, so this does not count as a secret for Host..." The sluggard replied nonchalantly. I was instantly overjoyed.
"The nearest fruit?..." I thought of something. "System what's the closest fruit to Lewis right now?"
"Analysis of the surroundings ... 11%. Processing the meadow and nearby trees ... " The system began to search silently the forest for any crop, nut or berry, and five seconds later he said.
"Scanning complete,95 objects responding to the description found in a radius of five kilometers, further filtering discovered and classified only 26 fruits fulfilling the requirements for paramecia anchorage..." He gave a vague summary.
"Where are they?" I asked happily but impatiently.
"Only 14 objects remaining..." He followed.
"What, Why? How did it disappear in such a quick time?" I had a bad premonition.

"Host's brother has eaten it..." The system said in a very bored manner.
"!!!!..." I was alarmed. Luffy is probably going to finish the fruits we came with before I can get back there in time.
"Is there no alternative solution?" I asked a bit desperate.
"........" The system remained silent for a bit as if he was struggling internally. "Host does not fulfill the requirements to know yet." He said impassively.
"What are those requirements?" I was not giving up.
"Host's spirit and Haki are not strong enough yet to handle that specific method. Your soul would be shattered and even possibly destroyed if an attempt was to be made right now."
"Hum..." That method ought to be really something if the system warns me like this...I guess I can only give up and search the rest of the surroundings once that guy dies.
"System I'll ask you to conduct a full scan of the forest before I finish the fight. Can you spot the devil fruit if we come across it?" It was dark and even with my night vision, I was not an expert when it came to devil fruit exterior appearance. It would be a long although rewarding quest, but I had a lot of things to take care of, especially with that woman here. If one animal happened to eat the fruit before I could get my hands on it, I would only have my eyes left to cry.
"Scanning set in motion 0.05%...Twenty minutes till completion." The voice announced.
"Kid, are you taking me lightly?" Lewis realized my attention had gone elsewhere and asked.
I looked back at him with a meaningful smirk. "Sorry, I was thinking how to best torture you and mutilate you when you start begging for death," I gave a glib answer along with a playful grin, which was totally unbefitting of six years old. The guy had chills running through his spine for some reason. This kid...
"Punk!...I've changed my mind now, I will make you join the crew even against your will." His buzz was accentuated as he munched on a few blue pills this time.
"You won't be able to see the sun tomorrow, unfortunately." I smiled.
I concentrated energy and a small membrane of black and shining liquid recovered my arms, steaming hot vapor around the edge of my miniature frame.
"??!" Lena was confused when she saw this. What is that steam? And why are his arms suddenly black? Is he a devil fruit user?
I took a big momentum and rushed towards Lewis at high speed.
"Brrusshhh!" This time I used 95% of my power with Haki. He withdrew a dagger and defended the blow while clenching his teeth. He also screamed the name of another technique while he pierced his body with his syringe looking finger, "Steroid boost!" His eyes were shot red. His body was bigger the next moment; his muscles were bulging, and the veins on his temps, arms, and neck, were exceptionally clear to see.
BANNGG!!!
The clash pushed him back only 20 meters away this time and he stopped sliding backward. He did not even frown from the force of the collision.
I sneered and a burst of attacks began to rain more beautifully than before on my assailant.
BOOOmm!!!
He could only defend; he did not have time to go on the offense because of the of the savageness of the raid. The barrage he was resisting against was too much to deal with as his hands were full. He managed somehow to parry and deflect some of the brunt.
"Damn it!! This devilish brat's blows are hard like steel. What the fuck is he made of? Lewis was howling inside.

Queen of the Hill
Howdy there, partner. I'm so glad you've stumbled upon this story of mine. It's a bit of an experiment I've always wanted to try: writing a female protagonist people would enjoy reading. Of course, my amazing writing skills and epic prose won't be enough to convince you, so I've composed a list that'll prove just how much you'll love Daphne: 1. She has that good ol' Southern hospitality 2. She knows a lot of Southern Slang 3. SHE'S A MOTHER TRUCKIN' DRAGON I dunno about you, but I'd like to read a story where a young, Southern woman gets reincarnated as a hill dragon and has to fight vicious fairies, handsome dwarves, and plants that make you sneeze assisted by only her wits and a very passive-aggressive system that sends her weird emoticons. But hey. That's just me. Give it a chance! Tarnation Station is coming and there's absolutely nothing you can do to stop it! So why don't you hop on and enjoy the ride?
