《Awakening of a Monster》Chapter 5 - Making an Impression

Amon rushed out of his dorm before realizing he hadn't been shown where the girl's dorms were.
Before he could get worked up, his highly developed sense started to help him. He could smell Lilith's scent. He didn't know how he knew it was hers, he just instinctively knew it was hers. So he followed it like a bloodhound.
Amon ran with such fervor that he didn't know he'd been cracking the ground with every step, causing the surroundings to shake like an Elephant was stampeding through the compound.
As Amon got closer and closer to the scent's origin, the more and more fear he smelt.
'Lilith must be terrified. Those fucking whores...!'
Amon let out a terrifying growl and sped up even further, the newly opened Gate supplying him with amazing amounts of stamina and power. As he finally got to a building that the scent was coming from, he saw a window that was open where the majority of the scent was flowing out of.
Amon thought it was a bit suspicious but he cared not, he was here to fight, not think.
Using his horrifying momentum and the explosive power in his legs, he jumped upward past the 1st floor and onto the window ledge. Each of his fingers was now claws and dug into the brick of the building, along with his tail which supported his body from below.
Amon's blood red eyes looked into the room to see something that angered him on many levels.
Lilith had multiple slap and fist marks on her face, all her stuff was strewn across the floor, most of it destroyed. All her clothes had at least one rip in them. Worst of all, the picture of Lilith, Amon, Jax, and Molly all together on Lilith's 14th birthday had been smashed.
It may not seem like much but Lilith had endured some major bullying as she and Molly went to an all-girls school and Amon and Jax couldn't really help, and that was if she even told them. Molly only found out because she overheard some people talking about it. Lilith probably thought she'd get away from those girls but right now, they were in a dorm with her. The world was a cruel place at the end of the day.
Amon stepped in through the window, surprising not breaking anything on his entry. All the girls surrounding and beating Lilith, turned to look at Amon, whose red hair had turned fully black.
His hair had changed because subconsciously he was holding back on the transformation and now that he was angry, he'd let the transformation fully complete.
Black and red mist seemed to flow around Amon as he walked, giving off an aura of desolation and bloodlust. The girls all looked at him in unadulterated fear, their instincts telling them that he wasn't harmless, quite the opposite actually, he was a monster.

"W-who are you? Do you think you're scaring anyone with this mist?!" A black-eyed, black-haired beauty glared at Amon as she spoke, but she couldn't stop her body from trembling no matter how much she glared. This was akin to a bunny seeing a lion and still trying to act tough; it just wouldn't work.
*Slap!*
A resounding slap echoed out through the dorm room as the black haired beauty was flung to the other side of the room with a bloody face. "How dare you glare at me and speak without permission. You're in the company of a Demon Lord, act like it." Amon's voice sounded like it came straight from the deepest and most twisted place from hell, causing the girls to finally react and back away. Some even fell to the floor and pissed themselves in fear. Amon even surprised himself with what he said.
'Demon Lord? Oh well, let's do what I came her for.'
Amon looked around the room and saw Lilith's petite and shaking body and causing a pang of pain in his heart, he walked over to her and bent over and curled her up in his arms like a child. Amon couldn't help but think that she was hiding some serious curves under her baggy clothes before he glared at the others and turned around to leap out of the dorm room again.
But before he could leave, a purple-haired girl entered. Her orange eyes widened when she saw the state of the room, girls on the floor covered in their own urine, others backed away into corners shivering like their life depended on it and one girl was even unconscious with a blood-covered face. She then saw Amon who was holding a shaking girl and rushed over to him.
Amon ignored her and jumped out of the window. Landing on the ground like he hadn't just fallen from the second floor of a building, he carried on walking but suddenly felt an incoming.
Dodging out of the way of the fireball thrown at him, Amon turned around glaring at the purple-haired girl as an unconscious growl escaped his throat. "What do you want?" his voice was rough but still portrayed a feeling of majesty and bloodlust.
"I'm here because you're trying to run off with a girl from my dorm room! Are you some kind of pervert?" The girl's voice was smooth and as Amon and she looked at each other they could feel what each other were; Amon had found another Hybrid that could match him.
"This is my childhood friend, Phoenix. Your other dormmates were bullying her and she called for me to come to help her. So I did." Amon's stated matter-of-factly.

"Your Dragons are always like this...Whatever, just leave." the purple-haired girl seemed tired and she turned around to leave and started sweating bullets. She could feel his other side to his hybrid physique, his Demon side, fighting for control so it could rip her apart. She just couldn't compete with such a vicious person.
Amon snorted in disdain and left himself, promising that he'd get her back for throwing a fireball at him.
A few minutes later~
Amon took her back to his dorm room and placed her on his bed. As the bed was made for his large stature, Lilith and he could both easily fit on the bed. Lilith had stopped shaking by now but she wouldn't let Amon take his hand away from hers, she said something along the lines of "I'm afraid you'll leave after I let go." so Amon had to oblige. He calmed her down by talking to her and even used his new magic power to help her recover quicker.
Both his Demonic (black colored energy) and Draconic (red colored energy) Magic Power were endowed with impressive self-healing abilities that he could use to heal himself or others, so after soaking in it for a while, Lilith was as good as new.
Amon had closed his eyes when the Tiger-guy came up to him with a curious look. "What you doing over here, Dragon? Steal a beauty or something?" His voice was full of mirth as he looked between Amon and Lilith. Amon grinned, feeling a weird sort of friendship with the white-haired boy even though they'd never spoken before.
After explaining everything to his, the boy embarrassedly said his apologies before him and Amon started talking.
Amon found out that the boy was named Michael, and Michael found out his name so he could stop calling him 'Dragon', which was starting to grate on Amon and Michael knew it and occasionally did it to piss him off.
Amon found that despite their opposing bloodlines, he and Michael got on like a house on fire and Michael had the added benefit of being able to be a rival for Amon in fighting, it was like two birds with one stone for a Battle Addict like Amon.
"Yo, Amon, did you know they're doing a test tomorrow?" Michael had asked the guy next to Amon to switch beds with him, so he was currently lying on the bed with a book in his hand, looking like a scholar rather than a fighter.
"Test? What kind?"
"Ah, it's pretty much a combat test. Similar to a King of the Hill battle, it'll be explained in more detail tomorrow." Michael spoke absentmindedly as he looked at his book. Amon couldn't stop the savage smile spreading across his face.
Amon sat on the end of his bed, about to do some cultivating when he felt a massive surge of energy in his body. All the energy was rushing to the second Gate in his body, which was in the middle of his spine.
'So soon?'
Was all Amon could think before the energy started drilling into his spine and grinding at the pearl in it.
This Gate was called the Gate of Body, it enhanced the potential of the body to its very limits and also tempered the body's abilities quite a lot. It was a foundation building Gate, as every Demon needed a strong body for their magic power to flow through. Pretty much like this: The more magic power, the stronger the body. This Gate was the opener for the next gate which dealt in Magic.
Amon realized that this wasn't too soon as this round of opening Gates was just the foundation for the later stages. The Gates would be opened multiple times and each time the effect would be stronger and stronger with some new effects added here and there. Kind of like a cycle.
Amon easily crushed the pearl and opened the Gate, which radiated strength and drowned his cells in it.
Each of his cells gobbled up the energy like a hungry mob of zombies, perfecting themselves and getting stronger and stronger, which caused an overall improvement in Amon's body making it much stronger than before. Everyone in the room other than Michael and Lilith was shaking in fear at the aura of dread pouring out of Amon's body.
Like the first time, another wave came out of the newly opened Gate. This wave rushed straight to his head, seeming to improve everything in his brain and also improving his senses incredibly.
Opening his eyes, he was shocked by how strong his senses were now, even the light from the ceiling lamp was a bit glaring to him. After having his eyes opened for a while, he slowly got used to it. Because of the promise of Battle tomorrow, Amon continued cultivating for a while before getting off the bed and lying on the floor; his new body wasn't that bothered by the hardness of the ground.
Lilith grabbed his hand again as she realized he'd pried her hand off of his as he got off the bed. Amon could only shake his head wryly as he lay his head back on the cold wooden floor, warmed only by his boiling blood, he was incredibly excited for the battles tomorrow.

Author's Notes: I appreciate you taking a look at my novel, The Girl from the Mountain. If you're a fan of post-apocalyptic fiction, military thrillers, and/or cosmic horror, I think you'll enjoy this story. I completed the novel's first draft back in 2011 and made significant changes in 2016. Since then, I've more-or-less sat on the manuscript while working on other projects. Thanks to a bit of prodding, I've decided to send this story out into the wild with some touch-ups and additional revisions. I welcome any comments or criticisms, and I hope you enjoy The Girl from the Mountain!
