From the back of a cargo plane, a group of heavily armed men in armor nod at each other as their leader a burly man shouts, “We have only one mission and that is to cause as much as damage we can to the new auction house.” “Yes, sir, consider it done,” the men in chorus shouted back to the satisfaction of their leader.
The troop leader nods in satisfaction as the cargo bay opens and the wind rushes in. Over the scream of the wind, the troop leader shouts, “Get ready to deploy on my count! 3, 2, 1, Go!” The men rush out of the cargo plane bay as their magic items the troop splits into three groups. The first group dives for the roof of the building, another to land on the side of the building, and the last group to make contact on the grounds.”
From inside the Marchen Auction house, Terry and Sam flinch as an automatic red-light flash in the guard room and throughout the auction house. A female robotic voice over the intercom speaks, “All defense systems are a go. For safety measures, all employees please remain within the compound during this time. Counterattack measure will begin in less than one minute. Please, standby is advised.”
Mr. McLoughlin hears the voice and says, “You heard the lady! I want everyone to their posts on the double!” The men and women ride up the elevator crowed to the brim and take their positions at the front doors. The guards wait in tense silence for that first attack to begin. Many were unease given that the auction house had even yet to open and it was already under attack. Such an attack did not bode well for the auction house and their careers.
On the roof, Mr. Smith smiles and says, “I heard you the first-time sweetheart. But please don’t mind me, I’m just going to watch my handy work from behind the safety of this thick metal exit door.”
A strange amount of energy begins to gather and surge around the entire building as the first group attempts to land on the ceiling. Suddenly from the floor, magic missiles fire in the rapid attack. The men let out groans as they lose unconsciousness to their surprise a net-like magic captures them and neatly leaves them bundled on the ceiling.

Mr. Smith smiles at his babies and says, “You did well babies, daddy's proud of you.” If one were to look closely, they would see tiny robotic nanobots happily dancing around in the air, before darting into a brooch around Mr. Smith’s neck. Mr. Smith reaches for his radio and says, “The roof is secure, please send personnel to collect the intruders.”
The cargo plane had taken damage from the magic missiles and had been unable to dodge all the attack. The plane suddenly finds itself circling as it rapidly plummets to the ground, while the pilot attempts to land the fiery pit of death. With a loud crash, the cargo plane smashes into the ground in a rain of sparks but thankfully the experienced pilot manages to land the cargo plane without killing those still on board.
The men who had managed to evade the attack opted for landing on the ground or on the side of the building. The instant one of the men try to break the glass open suddenly a bolt of lightning flashes and strikes the group of men. The men plummet to the ground to only be caught by roots that stretch from the ground. The men on the ground suffer the same fate as roots with their own minds hold the men upside firmly grasped in their hold.
The security inside gapes at the scene ongoing outside as the female automatic voice says, “All intruders have been taken care of. All counterattack systems will be shut down in 3, 2, 1. Defense systems still remain active and in place and will only shut down once all intruders have been caught. It is advised, that ground security forces collect the intruders and extract proper information via legal means. It is strongly recommended Mr. Smith leads the interrogation prior to turning the intruders to proper authorities.”
Mr. McLoughlin narrows his green eyes and roars in his Irish accented voice, “What are you waiting around here?! You heard the machine, get to it!”
The security personnel gaps at the roots that hold the struggling figures. The roots suddenly release their captives and drop them unceremoniously onto the ground with a painful thud. With the wind knocked out of them, the security guards are able to easily secure all the intruders. By the time, Mr. Smith descends the unconscious intruders on the room had been carefully gathered and brought to the main lobby.

The guards flinch at the pleasant smile on Mr. Smith’s face. The hero members in particular quake in fear with a complete understanding of what was to come. Mr. Smith hadn’t been just any right-hand henchmen, but his former boss was Mr. Screams. Mr. Screams wasn’t known for his shrill screams, but rather how all his victims died. They all died with horrified expressions on their faces.
In fact, the one, who turned Mr. Screams into the authorities was Mr. Smith himself. Now, most villains will cross all normal lines, but there is a Villain Brethern Code called, “Parlay," that all villains stick to. No one knows who or how, but Mr. Screams broke that sacred code. To a gentleman of villainy such as Mr. Smith, Mr. Smith was horrified by his bosses action. Having had enough, Mr. Smith carefully plotted Mr. Screams retirement. Given his aid in the capture of Mr. Screams, Mr. Smith was given immunity on all charges and allowed to resume daily life with the firm warning to longer return to a life villainy. Having been a henchmen all his life, Mr. Smith was at his wit's end trying to find employment, when Miss Reed hired him. And for that, Mr. Smith would forever be grateful to Miss Reed and would remain a loyal henchman for the rest of his life except should Miss Reed break the code.
Mr. Smith merely takes one look and with ease spots the leader, a burly man with a fearless look on his face despite being firmly tied and gagged/ “Please carry him into the closet, I shan’t take more than a minute,” Mr. Smith spookily said as the guards shiver at his words.
Two fearless guards carry the burly leader into the closet as Mr. Smith closes the door behind him. The closet is silent until suddenly a deafening scream is heard a minute later. With a bright smile on his face, Mr. Smith emerges and says, “Our young fellow is ready to talk. Please be sure to record the following conversations and remove the troop leader from the closet.”
The two guards drag the shaking pale troop leader whose gag has been removed. “I’ll talk! I’ll tell you anything you want! Just keep that monster away from me!” The terrified troop leader shouted. The guards swallow loudly as they try to understand and fail to guess who in less than a minute a defiant man could break in less than a minute.
Mr. Smith innocently smiles and firmly repeats his orders, “Come now, do as you are told.” The guards jump into action and do as they are told as Mr. McLoughlin nods in approval of his partner.
“Nice job, you did there,” Mr. McLoughlin said patting Mr. Smith on the back before Mr. McLoughlin roars, “Get moving you, idiots!” The guards run around even more so by the time the police arrived the intruders were all neatly lined up on the outside grounds to be taken away.
It was the smoothest pick up the police had ever seen in their lives. In fact, the only unusual thing had been a large burly guard who kept flinching at every single sound and muttering under his breath, “They’re always watching! The eyes, the eyes, they’re everywhere!” The police disregard the man’s ranting except, if one were to pay closer attention, one would be able to spot tiny sparks of light floating around the burly master. But that was probably just mere coincidence, right?

Recovery of a Life
The prince of a kingdom was erased from the world. His very existence an enigma. Follow Xopil as he forces his life into a world that refuses to acknowledge his presence. I tried to write a novel without including all the standard things you find in certain genres, or if it is included, I hope it's at least a fresh take on it, this includes me breaking the fourth wall, probably too much. I'm wondering if that helped with humor at all, and also reconsidering if that should be a part of the story. I'm going to be rewriting every chapter at this point... and that chapter I'm extremely disappointed with could likely be deleted if not redone entirely. Now that this story is marked 'completed', I'll be going through each chapter and fleshing out the story a bit, as I found it severely lacking, and I've been saying to myself "I could have done more with that." way more often than I should be. And that speaks to my own dissatisfaction with my writing. I make no warranty-express or implied-as to the quality of these chapters, or the story as a whole. Cover art by Roman Valeyev
