《Reborn as a DRAGON》Chapter 21: Fight

'Magic is an art, It can be used for the betterment of society, to promote our evolution, or to bring devastation upon us all. Those who practice dark magic use it for their own greed, power, and control, they enjoy the abuse, and feel pleasure in causing pain, suffering, and death. It is for the most part a linguistical method, hence the "spells" in literature, the sense that it is done with words... because for the most part, it is. Except for Dragons, they have no need for words. It works that way for us because of the way the brain is wired with words and images.' —Records of Rolus, the first archmage.

Green huddled closer to me, while White peeked her head out in curiosity. Although he still tried to keep a strong front, I could feel Blacky's nervousness as he moved back towards us. Golden boy did not seem to understand the seriousness of the situation, his tongue was sticking out of his mouth as he stared at father with a dumb expression on his face.
'Well, we have father's dome to protect us, so we should be fine...I think.' I tried to reassure myself. That roar seemed different than the one of yesterday, it was a bit familiar.
I peeked at my father's towering figure in the air, the bloodlust surrounding him was so thick, I was almost able to see it. 'Just who the hell could make father act that way?' I wondered.
And as if to answer my question, a blurry shadow appeared in the distance. At first, the figure was nothing but a dot on the horizon, yet it did not take long before I was able to see who exactly was my father's opponent.
An enormous Dragon, the size of my mother was closing in on Father with unprecedented speed. Father did not just sit by idly and wait, with a mighty flap of his wings he fearlessly charged to meet his opponent head-on.

"ROAR!!"
Their cries shook the sky, the magic shield may have reduced the aura from their roars, yet it was unable to keep my heart from pounding crazily in my chest. Green did not seem to like where this was going as she hid under my wing.
I on the other hand watched with bated breath as the two giants who blotted the sky drew closer to each other. Father had his claw outstretched, while his opponent, a greyscaled female Dragon who looked awfully similar to my mother had her maw open as she bared her teeth.
Both sides drew closer and closer, my anticipation rising as I stared with wide-open eyes, afraid to miss anything. And then they clashed. For a second, the world seemed to lose its color, a black vortex suddenly opened in between them as both sides were pushed back.
The sound from their clash seemed like a thunderclap causing my ears to start ringing like crazy, then the shockwave followed, and for a second I feared the magic shield might not hold on.
My heart almost leaped out of my chest at the clash that seemed to break the air itself, yet my eyes remained glued at Father's figure. It was nothing but a split second, yet I still managed to catch a glimpse of a red flash covering his claws right before the impact.
'He coated his claws with mana to further enhance his attack, or was that his energy he used?' I wondered.
Neither he nor the grey Dragoness sustained any visible injuries and were both merely send tumbling backward a few paces in the air. Father's dark abyssal eyes seemed to almost burn with fury as he glared at his opponent.
She on the other hand had an almost playful glint to her eyes. Although they were far, I could still vaguely sense a few waves of mana between them.

'They are talking. But father doesn't seem to like whatever it is that she has to say.'
His bloodlust only seemed to be growing stronger, while the grey scaled Dragoness kept her playful gaze on him. The duo stared at one another for a few seconds before Father broke the stalemate, no fancy Dragon breaths were used as both sides rushed towards the other using their bodies as weapons.
This time I was able to see it clearly, father was using his energy, not mana to strengthen his claws just before each strike. The grey-scaled Dragoness on the other hand was different.
I watched in curiosity as what appeared to be a small shield of mana materializing from her scales as It blocked father's attack. I was unable to sense any of her energy from the shield, which meant she was only using mana.
I unconsciously gulped. Wasn't mana weaker than our mysterious energy? If father can't break through her shield even when she's only utilizing mana, what would happen if she went all out?
'Shit doesn't this mean she's stronger than father?! No, no wait, they still seem evenly matched its too early to judge.'
My heart thumped loudly in my chest as I watched the battle between the two giants unfold, every time their bodies clashed, the air seemed to break as more black ominous vortexes appeared causing my scales to tingle.
I unconsciously glanced at White who seemed to be fascinated with the fight, her eyes were almost sparkling as she struggled to keep her tail still. Blacky was no better off, his claws had already dug a hole in the ground from nervousness. Golden Boy was the only cheery one as he kept jumping up and down in excitement.
The fight seemed to be reaching its climax, both sides were moving with such speed in contrast with their large frames, that it was impossible to keep track of them with my naked eyes.
They had turned into mere blurs, the sounds of their clash alongside the shockwaves had long since flattened the surrounding forest. The only unharmed area was the one we were in, within father's magic shield.
Just as I was thinking that things were going to get settled soon, another roar from behind us shook the land causing the duo to break, the grey-scaled Dragoness had an unwilling expression in her eyes for the first time as she glanced at the distance, while Father finally seemed to be able to reign in his bloodlust.
I turned around curious to see who the newcomer was only for my eyes to widen in shock.
