《Reborn as a DRAGON》Chapter 5: Mom?

'What is a man that would sacrifice his kind instead of fighting? Who would want become a knight, in an era where cowardice had become so normal? Indeed, man had less of a moral code than they, for at least a Dragon, would never do such a terrible thing to another dragon.' — Records of an unknown Knight.
***********
Green was a shy one, her eyes always nervously darting around the cave. When her gaze
met Blacky's, she sheepishly buried her head into White's side as she averted her eyes.
This caused Blacky to feel rather proud of himself as he haughtily raised his snout high. One glare from me however was enough to cause him to lower his head in obedience.
Golden boy, who had been captivated by White's presence before, was now even more excited by Green’s presence, who had just appeared.
From the impression I was getting from him, Golden boy was just curious about our two little sisters. Now that I think about it, I instinctively knew that White and Green were females, while I recognized Blacky and Golden boy as males.
There was no distinctive feature that set us apart, besides Green being a tad smaller and much cuter than the rest. Perhaps that was the reason behind Golden boy's curiosity?
As I was having such useless thoughts, a gust of wind suddenly appeared, causing Golden boy and Blacky to be sent tumbling backwards.
I was also caught off guard, yet still managed to stay in place as I used my sharp claws to root myself into the rocky floor. White was pushed back a few steps, before she as well managed to stabilize herself.
Green, who was the smallest out of all of us, raised her abnormally large wings almost instinctively. I watched in surprise as the strong wind lifted her into the air. She was flying!

The air current disappeared abruptly, causing Green to land a distance away from us. Yet as soon as she had, she hurriedly scurried towards White and hid her head behind her side.
Blacky and Golden boy made their way back to us, their gazes astonished as they glanced into the distance. 'Hmmm?' White, who had always seemed indifferent to everything, had her head lowered in submission, her body emitting signals of fear.
It was then that I suddenly realized that the direction they were all staring at was behind me. With my heart threatening to leap out of my chest, I slowly turned my head, only to freeze in shock.
A giant, golden eye was staring right at me. For a second, I forgot how to breathe. The eye was easily as large as my entire body, so I unconsciously moved my head to look at the rest of the monster's body.
It was a colossal adult female Dragon. Her scales were grey, and she was also one-eyed. Her damaged eye had a large scar over it, running down to her upper jaw. A pair of mighty sharp horns, that looked to be able to tear rocks like a hot knife through butter sprouted from her head.
She was just simply too huge! Just her head was enough to cover my entire vision. Her one eye carefully examined me. I did not dare to make any sudden movements. Though I was a dragon now, the monstrosity in front of me was capable of crushing me with a sneeze!
A thought suddenly sprung to my mind. 'Wait a minute, mom?'
Seemingly able to read my thoughts, the giant dragon suddenly moved her exceptionally large head and affectionately rubbed it against my body.
Though she tried to be gentle, the force from her action was enough to make me stumble backward. Seeing that the gentle giant Dragon had no intention of attacking, White was the first to regain her bearings as she crept closer to our mother.

Green sheepishly followed behind her, not wanting to be left out. Blacky on the other hand seemed to hesitate for a bit, until he also slowly followed behind, not daring to get too close.
'Wait, wait, wait, that stupid muscle brain! Don't do it!' My mind suddenly went into overdrive as I turned my gaze towards my stupid little brother.
Golden boy's eyes had become wide with excitement, and I could already see the fighting
intent burning within. The idiot was going to attack and it was too late to do anything to stop him.
I wasn't afraid for our mother's safety, or his for that matter, I was more concerned about ours. If the muscle brain somehow managed to piss off the monstrosity that is our mother, I doubt we would come out unscathed.
My heart sank as Golden boy made a mad dash towards mother, looking more like a bull than a dignified Dragon. I hastily turned my gaze to the gentle giant to try and gauge out her reaction.
To my relief, mother seemed more amused than anything. She lazily brought her giant clawed palm down in front of her to block Golden boy's suicidal charge.
Like a small moth rushing towards a flame, my stupid little brother met my mother's palm headfirst and~
'That's it? Oh, he's sleeping again.' I thought.
The result was rather anticlimactic. His attack unsurprisingly did not even cause a scratch to appear on mother's clawed arm. Quite the opposite, the force of his attack ended up knocking him unconscious.
After seeing that, White rolled her eyes, while Green sheepishly watched the entire ordeal with amusement. Blacky simply looked at Golden boy's unconscious body in disdain, before turning his attention towards mother with awe-filled eyes.
Mother then laid her enormous body down causing the ground to shake as a cloud of dust rose from the impact. She then closed her eye to rest without paying us any more heed.
Now that I had gotten a better look at her, mother truly had a colossal body. I glanced at my tiny Dragon body in disappointment. 'When will I get to be that big?' I thought as I imagined myself soaring through the sky while raining fire down on the lands below.
'Wait! Fire? Don't Dragons usually possess the ability to breathe fire?’ Thinking about that, my eyes shone with determination, as I was eager to test my theory.
I glanced back at my mother, who still had her one eye closed, then at White, who was peacefully snuggled next to her. Green was awkwardly moving her limbs around as she tried to get used to them. Blacky on the other hand was staring intently at mother with a worship-filled gaze, while Golden boy was still peacefully sleeping.
It was now or never!

Author's note: I love the idea of kingdom-building novels and think the genre has a lot to offer, but I don't think many authors do them very well. Here is my attempt. The novel has a strong focus on politics and kingdom building, with occasional action and a bit of humor. Have fun. Cover was made by MrZombie Updates three times a week.
