Release Information
Hello everyone!
First I want to thank everyone for reading this far and supporting me as much as you have over the past two years. Project TheirWorld has been a hugely rewarding experience for me, and I have learned so much during this time (micro-editing/grammar is not one of those things, I know :p).
That said, it’s with a heavy heart and much consideration that I need to take a break from this particular story. I’m going through some things right now — looking for a new job, going back to school, misc. health and life stuff — and I’ve come to the conclusion that forcing myself to continue the story with the chapter deadlines I’ve set for myself is detrimental both to my stress levels and the story itself.
I’ve been struggling for a while now with the story, either fighting my desire to edit because I’m not happy with how it’s gone, or just with general depression and losing the desire to write at all, and I feel like it’s starting to show up more and more in this story.
Last week I worked on a new story project and it was like a breath of fresh air. I had so much fun with it, and was so excited with it, that I realized that I forgot why I wrote TheirWorld in the first place. After, when trying to switch gears back into TheirWorld, I had to put a huge amount of effort into writing just a handful of so-so Alphas, and I was actually pretty miserable doing it, compared to when I worked on the other. The story and you readers really deserve more than that kind of half-assed attitude. The only way I can think of revitalizing my feelings for the story is to release myself from this work-like attitude I’ve placed on it.

What does this mean?
I still plan to finish the story, but at my own pace. This means that you may see one or two chapters a week still. It may mean that you won’t see chapters for a couple of weeks, and then get a chapter dump of ten chapters. It may mean that you won’t see me again till Christmas — I don’t really know, and I’m not going to make any promises aside from: I will finish it, one way or another. Fighting!
This may even give me the energy to work on uploading better edited versions of the existing draft so people can stop complaining about my grammar (including me, haha.)
Also, I am declaring this the official/unofficial ‘PART 2’ of Tatterskin so that it’s not quite as weird when other PoVs show up in the future. I am hoping that this is another thing that will help me regain my excitement about the project again.
I really am sorry I have to do it this way, but again, this does NOT mean I am abandoning the story; just that I may not be as active as I have been.
Thank you everyone!
Rachel
*RRL Specific -- At some point when I am feeling up to it I'll upload the chapters so that RRL matches WordPress and Patreon, as well.

Isekai'D Shoggoth
It begins as a usual isekai story. No, wait. It's worse. It's otome isekai. And I'm the villain.Of course, there must be some kind of cheat to make up for it. It's that kind of story. And my cheat is... being a shoggoth. Which apparently includes being a genius with setting up all sorts of production. Because "engineered to be universal labor" backstory for that race, I surmise.So... Screw it, full steam ahead. Let`s see what I can make out of this world and it's ikebana-based magic. The Humanity Initiative (discontinued)

The risk of an unfortunate chain reaction is too large to ignore, but as of now, prevention is impossible. Humanity, in its biological form, would never survive as it is. That’s why the UN has its full focus on “The Humanity Initiative”. The field of genetics shows promising results, but are years from ready. If bombs were to fly tomorrow, something must survive. Recent VR technology has a potential candidate for that something.Farah Al Farzha never plays online, she loathes the very idea of it. She is in love with reality, and competitive fencing is her way to prove it. But when she reluctantly went online, she couldn’t exit, or at least a copy of her consciousness couldn’t.Human, but juridically speaking no more, Farah struggles in a game that would’ve been illegal. To her only consolation, the game is modeled after reality, a place foreign to the gaming brats around her. But what demands do the UN put on potential ‘human’ survivor candidates, and how will natural selection be replaced, when reality is no more? _______________________________________________________________________

A Wheel Inside a Wheel
Two brilliant young me, Reinhard von Musel and Yang Wen-li, are forced to flee the countries of their birth and become refugees on opposite sides of a century long galactic war. While they both struggle to adapt to their new lives, their obvious talent propels them to the forefront of the war. Their choices will shape their adoptive homelands forever, and their clash will decide the future of the galaxy. This story is broken up into volumes, each following one half of the conflict. You can read them in chronological order, or you can follow just Yang or Reinhard. See individual descriptions below. Part One - Speaking in Tongues When Yang Wen-li’s father dies, the only thing that he inherits is a mountain of debt, which can only be paid off with fifteen years of his life. Wanting to escape that indentured servitude, Yang flees his homeland and takes up a false identity in the Galactic Empire, a hyper-stratified society where stepping out of line is punishable with imprisonment or death. Yang enrolls in the Imperial Officers’ Academy to study history, but despite his unusual and unmistakeable talent as both a tactician and a scholar, his classmates resent him for being a visible outsider. When tensions at the school boil over and several of Yang’s classmates attempt to murder him, Yang finds an unlikely ally in the top student in the class: the aloof Oskar von Reuenthal. But Reuenthal and Yang both have secrets, secrets which could destroy both their lives and their newfound friendship. [70k words, complete] Part One (Alternate) - Talking Without Speaking When Oskar von Reuenthal enrolls at the Imperial Officers' Academy, he doesn’t expect to make real friends. The IOA is a competitive place, and Reuenthal has never been well liked. But when a foreign student shows up to challenge him for the top spot in the class, Reuenthal can’t look away. [77k words, complete] Part Two - Life out of Balance When Reinhard von Musel's mother learns that her husband is about to sell her daughter to become the concubine of the Kaiser, she takes her two children, Reinhard and Annerose, and flees to the Free Planets Alliance, where the three of them must start a new life. [129k words, complete] Part Three - Servants of the Pharaoh Now an officer in His Majesty's fleet, Yang Wen-li struggles to maintain his principles in the face of everything that is expected of him. When he's unwillingly drawn into the politics of the court, he has to use all of his talents to keep himself and his new friends out of danger. [173k words, complete] Short - Whatever It Takes to Keep the Body Warm After their falling out, Reuenthal and Mittermeyer are both posted to the brutal wasteland of Capche-Lanka. It's difficult to hold a grudge when you're just trying to survive. [23k words, complete] Short - Keep the Home Fires (Burning) Three soldiers. Two bodies to be buried. One haunted house. [33k words, complete] Part Four - Lighting Out for the Territories While his sister has joined the fierce Rosen Ritter regiment, Reinhard's fame has earned him a post stuck on Phezzan. Instead of getting to fight, he's caught up in a web of secrets, including the shelter and care of a mysterious refugee from the Empire. Separated from everyone he cares about, Reinhard is forced to make some unexpected allies, and make connections with old friends. [147k words, complete] Part Five - Serpent's Mouth, Serpent's Teeth After having sacrificed his freedom to save his best friend's life, Yang must figure out how to win, and not just survive, the largest civil war in human history. [In progress] Part Six - Lightless Labyrinth [forthcoming, TBD] Part Seven - Silent Spiral [forthcoming, TBD] This story is crossposted on ao3 at bit.ly/wheelinsideawheel
