《My Monster Adventurer's Guild》Chapter 060 - When Cless went deeper than ever

They traveled to the dungeon entrance. The backward walls were there, and the gate was open. They started to move in formation, the golem in front, Arnold, and Silverfang flanking Venaris and Cless Kurt and Vic closing the rear. Cless dumped her buffs on everyone as they crossed the gate. She placed Flametongue on the golem's fists to illuminate forward.
Cless tapped the gnome's shoulders and asked, "What monsters are in here, Venaris?"
"The most common on the upper floors are Drillmoles. Earth elemental moles with crystal fur and the ability to break rocks. They dig through the dungeon walls and like to ambush from below. Next, the Hellshadow Cougars. Nasty cats that can remain almost invisible in dark places. Fireblood Centipedes in the warmer rooms, they cling to the ceiling and drop on the delvers. Delving deeper, there are Iceclaw Bears, the name says all. They sometimes come up to eat the centipedes. And Steamplume Geckos. Pesky flying lizards that think themselves dragons. They breathe a steam cloud. These are the ones I know. There might be others."
They nodded and descended down the depths. The tunnel looked like a cave and it narrowed to a five-meter tall by five-meter wide passage. The ground and walls were irregular, full of holes, small crevices, and rocks creating narrow passages near the wall. The shadows the flickering flames on the golem's arms caused made it feel like a monster could be hiding anywhere. Cless had a deep wish to move using Terrakinesis and Stone Shape to smooth out all the corridors. Sometimes a crack on the wall worked as a hot air vent, and another one deep inside blew humid cold air. Pebbles and grit littered the floor. If there was a pit trap in the ground, it would be impossible to know.
Unless, of course, one of your two scouts had a Skill to sense them.
"Stop!" Venaris called. "There's a trap ahead. The ground there is about to crumble."
Cless made the golem pick up a boulder and toss it where Venaris pointed. The boulder broke a thin shell of rock, crashing down and raising a dust cloud. A skittering sound came from the hole. Silverfang growled and attacked something. More skittering noises and Cless couldn't see a thing. Something banged Arnold's armor and the golem was being damaged. As the heavy granite creature tried to swing at the enemies, the shifting lighting only added to the chaos.
This dust was made of sand and small pieces of rock. Cless thought of something.
"Terrakinesis."
Instead of casting it at the ground or the ceiling, she used it on the dust cloud. Cless willed the particles suspended to move back to the floor. The dust cloud disappeared. Now she could see what was going on. A pack of drillmoles dug a hole under the corridor floor and was waiting for someone to fall down. She also noticed that she couldn't feel them through tremorsense even though they were right in front of her. Enough musing.
"Holy Bolt!"
"Poison Bolt!"
Vic used his magic almost at the same time as she. At the same drilmole. With the dust settled, Silverfang and Kurt were clawing the crystal fur of the moles while Venaris hit one of them in the snout with an iron sling bullet. Arnold swung his black metal warhammer and smashed the hindquarters of another.
The golem stomped the last drillmole. The corridor became quiet.
"Let's dismantle them. The fur is worth some coin and the claws can be made into arrowheads," Venaris suggested.

They skinned six drillmoles. Cless created a Deeppocket in her trousers and placed the pelts and nails in it. They were crossing around the hole when Silverfang's ears perked. Cless could swear she heard some whimpering.
"There is something down the hole," Cless pointed. "I can hear whimpering."
"Maybe one of the moles was stuck under the boulder," Venaris suggested. "Leave it."
"No! It might be suffering," Cless rebuked the suggestion. "I'm going to open the boulder and finish it."
"Stone Shape."
The boulder opened and Cless found a nest of drillmole babies, most of them crushed and one wounded. The whimpering increased in both volume and frequency as the boulder that was pressing down the tiny naked monster moved. Cless jumped down and picked it up.
"Heal."
She jumped back up.
"Why did you heal it?" Venaris tapped her foot and glared.
Cless cuddled the tiny mole. It fit in her hand. "It is too cute to die."
"It's a monster!" The gnome insisted.
Cless sighed. "Please raise your hand who of you was never called a monster."
Arnold groaned. "Venaris, leave her. Cless does what Cless does. It usually ends well for her. C'mon. It is not like the critter will grow suddenly and start attacking. We have a few months at least."
She placed the baby in a leather pouch and attached it to her belt. "It will be safe there."
They kept descending. The tunnel widened and the shadows seemed longer. Venaris looked from between the golem's legs. "Take care. I think there are Hellshadow Cougars in here."
Cless moved forward. "Let me try one thing – Hallow!"
The golden light washed the room. Hissing sounds came from behind some boulders and stalactites. Cless kept the chant. Soon four black cats on fire jumped from their hiding spots. Venaris hit one on the flank, making it limp, Silverfang ran and gutted a second with his claws. A third ran past Venaris to pounce Cless. A feathered arm stretched in front of her as Kurt clawed open the belly of the cougar.
The fourth was foaming from the mouth, Vic probably used a poison spell out of Cless field of view.
"Should we dismantle them, Venaris?" Cless asked, patting the pouch with the mole baby. The critter was not affected by her Hallow spell.
"Yes. The pelts are good for waterproof covering."
They kept going down. The hot air vents became more frequent. Cless thought and remembered the gnome miners liked to dig near these hot vents. She focused on [Gemsense] and [Ore Sense]. Cless could feel hundreds of small gems just ahead in one of the vents. There was metal ore a few dozen meters inside the walls. The gems seemed to be just lying down inside the vent.
"I think there is something inside the fourth vent. I'm sensing something." She stopped because the gems moved when she talked.
"Gems moving?" Arnold asked. "Isn't it the hot air vent moving them?"
"I don't know. The gems sometimes move back and forth," She thought of what it could be and got an idea and readied her bow. "Vic, toss a poison bolt and make it a cloud. Inside that vent."
The Lamiak did as asked. The poison cloud seeped in the vent and soon five drillmoles came out of there, coughing. Cless shot first, piercing one of them. The baby inside the pouch stirred hearing the cries of the other moles. Venaris hit a second one. They were sneezing and hissing, unable to attack.

"Watch the vents. They'll burn you." Arnold warned.
Cless and Venaris finished the poisoned moles. Four more mole pelts.
"There is ore in here. I don't know which type. Maybe mixed kinds."
"Do you want to mine? We didn't bring a pick."
"I can do it. – Stone Shape." It took five spells to tunnel enough to reach the ore. It had an orange-silvery hue, mixed. "This is copper and silver, that's why I couldn't identify it from afar. I think we hit some nice vein."
Cless used Liquefy to extract the ore as the spell would work only on stone or earth, not metals. She took big, one to three kilograms nuggets and several smaller ones. She filled two Deeppockets with the ore. The baby mole stirred in the pouch. Cless gave him one small quartz shard she found near the ore and the critter started to munch on the crystal. She focused on the gnomes' memories and recalled that the dungeon respawned the ores in random locations every now and then.
"Good delve. We already have some loot!" Cless cheered. "Now we shall do our damn duty and clear as many monsters as we can."
They kept moving. The tunnel split in two directions and Cless decided to leave the golem behind to explore the side that was too low for the three-meter-high construct. While Venaris and Vic alternated putting some Mage Light spells on the way, they moved forward. The number of hot air vents increased until it was getting uncomfortable.
Venaris checked the corridor and reported, "I guess the Fireblood Centipedes should be around here. Do take care when you hit them. They squirt hot goo like a bursting pustule."
"Nice allegory, Venn." Cless sniggered and frowned. "I'll take point – Earth Armor! – Protection!"
She made it flashy and loud to take advantage of [Stage Magician]. Funny to think an orc had that Skill. Clad in an armor of stone, Cless moved forward. She thought she had to test the order of the defenses. Did Earth Armor stack with Protection?
She moved about five paces ahead of the group, watching above her. Cless was trying her Skill-granted senses, but it seemed no critter showed up in [Tremorsense]. She could feel ore and crystal veins deep in the earth surrounding them, but too far away to mine. She heard skittering above her, and two centipedes the length of her arms dropped on her head and shoulder.
Cless screamed in surprise and bashed the one on her shoulder with the flat side of her sword. She felt the one on her head yanked away and a dull hit with a squish on her back. Regaining control of her nerves, Cless pushed the sword underneath the centipede and flung the centipede away from her. A spray of orange goo came from the critter and she jumped to the right to avoid it.
Not wanting to test if the centipede would damage her weapon, she fired a Holy Bolt at it. Cless turned around and saw the guild had already finished theirs. She healed Silverfang. He got some burns and even though the lycan would regenerate, she didn't want him to feel pain.
"No biting centipedes!" She teased him petting the werewolf's chin. Silverfang snarled but Cless just laughed and took the lead again.
Now that she knew what to look for, Cless could find the centipedes hiding in the roof. She took her bow and pointed out where they were. Venaris and Vic readied their ranged attacks with her and they downed four out of a group of five. The fifth skittered through the roof but Arnold took it out with a hammer throw. The orange goo sizzled over the black metal but did no damage.
Cless noticed one thing.
"Is any of you getting Experience? I got nothing from these critters so far."
"They are too low level. The depths of the dungeon are more enticing to monsters," Vic explained. "The strong take the lower floors as their territory and force the weaker ones to live in the upper levels."
"Well. Too bad the centipedes remains are worthless to us."
They kept moving down the tunnel, that occasionally opened up in a larger tunnel that could be considered a room. They hunted ten more moles, five cougars and a lot of centipedes.
"I think we should've taken the other tunnel," Cless commented. This tunnel was hot, dry, and the centipedes were a bother.
"I think the gnomes also thought the same. That is why there are this many centipedes around," Kurt said.
"We should get to the bottom of this then. Onward." She told with little enthusiasm.
From that point on the centipedes were growing bigger as the rooms got hotter. It was getting uncomfortable.
"Stop, please," Venaris asked.
"Let's climb back. We have no ways of cooling or even hydrating us. We'll die of sweating too much if we keep on. Is everything fine, Arnold?"
"The Skill you gave me makes me feel like I'm with a cotton shirt only."
"Glad you liked it. Back!"
Even on the way back, they still found some centipedes that probably were hiding in the crevices. It was impossible to search all of them, the walls, ceiling and even the floor too irregular. They were exhausted by the time they reached the golem. Several cougars were smashed on the ground, the golem chipped and badly damaged.
"Down the other tunnel or back?" Cless asked.
She moved the golem to a corner and dismissed it. The granite crumbled and became useless. The rest of the guild pondered but they decided to go down the other tunnel.
"That's what happens when dungeon populations aren't controlled," Vic explained. "Those centipedes would soon burst out of their corridor and compete for space with the other species. Some might even flood out of the dungeon."
"I wonder what kind of monster those walls up there were built to hold back." Arnold mused.
"The chimera, probably." Cless guessed. When they gave her a skeptic glance, she shrugged. "The Orc King must have descended here to get its heart."
They fought more cougars and moles. The vents here blew a mix of hot and cold air, more cold than hot. The tunnel wall opened to reveal a deep fissure. Cless threw a Light spell. The floor ahead was slightly sloped. Losing one's footing there would meal a one-way ticket to the depths. There seemed to be tunnels on the other side, opening into the fissure. One of them had a small stream that soon became a shower of mist rather than a waterfall. The wind inside the fissure would waver and spread the mist everywhere.
"This is dangerous. I'm remodeling the whole place."
Cless used Stone Shape to level the floor and also raise railings at the edge of the fissure. They went slowly as she repeated the spell until they reached the other side. She leaned on the railing and looked down. The fissure went beyond the reach of her Light spell in both directions, up and down. She placed one above and another below as far as she could. Some bats were disturbed by the light and flew down in her direction.
"Fireball!"
Cless almost burned herself when one bat flew in the path of the explosive projectile, blooming into a big sphere of fire that burned most of the bats. Their charred corpses fell down into the abyss. The other bats just went around her and flew up the tunnel they came from, probably toward the surface.
Cless looked at the stream and decided to do a little more remodeling. She extended the floor and railing until it reached the other side, melding the stone together underneath the cascading mist. Next, she created a groove for the water to trickle down into a basin she formed where the platform bridged over. With another groove leading the water out from the top of the basin, she had a way to collect water. They rested and ate some food while the basin slowly filled up. Shaping a bucket of stone, Cless collected the water and a Purify spell later, they filled their canteens. They left the bucket near the basin hanging upside down on a peg and went on down the tunnel.
"Now that I think of it, this dungeon needs a feminine touch." Cless quipped.
"Good luck with that," Venaris retorted. "The moles destroy everything. Your little fountain feature? Gone in a month, tops."
Cless felt the pouch with the mole baby. It was sleeping. She could feel its warmth.
They fought more cougars and moles, the number of moles slowly dwindling and the cougar size slowly growing.
Cless mused, "What exactly makes the depths of the dungeon more enticing to the monsters?"
"Miasma or raw magic. Take your pick." Vic answered. "This is just what I heard on my travels. There is a type of energy monsters need to grow that the dungeon creates. It draws monsters in from the outside if there aren't already enough monsters inside devouring this energy. Fortunately, the growth process is slow. Think decades to centuries slow."
More tunnels and wider areas later, Cless had to weave new pockets in her clothes to enchant with Deeppocket. Renewing all this stuff next morning would be a pain, but the loot was sweet. She had a lot of cougar and mole pelts. Since the meat of either monster type wasn't edible, they were burning the remains. The air vents did a good enough job of keeping the dungeon air fresh.
They reached another place where the wall opened, but this time into what seemed to be a big hall. The corridor became a ramp that slowly descended to the floor ten meters below as it circled around the massive chamber. Cless could hear the purring of a pride of black cougars in it, completely invisible in the darkness.
"Ready to fight. I'm lighting this place up." She went through the exaggerated motions and chant.
"Light!"
The whole room came alive, and the pride of Hellshadow Cougars roared and charged. Cless was ready to deal with them.
"Hallow!"
The holy power washed into the room and covered the nearest half. There was some resistance, as something was opposing her consecration of the area. The cougars that were charging caught on fire, the holy energy corroding their infernal nature, the light of the flames negating any concealment advantage they might have in the shadows the light cast around the ground.
She kept chanting while the guild fought. Silverfang howled and jumped straight down, Kurt perched on the ledge and started to sing a bolstering song, Arnold bashed his hammer on his shield, ringing like a gong as he used a Defender class technique.
"Taunt!"
The cougars that were surrounding Silverfang had no choice but to climb and jump up to attack the Defender. Vic braced himself around a rock and lashed out his tail, knocking five cougars back into the room below. Venaris was sniping the ones that crested up their corridor from a hiding place, taking advantage of her Skill and knocking the cougars away and back down.
Silverfang whimpered outside Cless' field of view. Afraid, she switched spells.
"Song of the Accord!"
Another wave of holy energy washed over the cougars, but now they couldn't fight and neither could the Blind Eye members. Arnold looked at Cless and nodded. He moved further away from her and readied his stance as the cougars once again climbed up and charged the Priestess. He signaled her that he would ring his shield again when she gave him a go.
"Get ready to beat the cougars when Cless releases her spell!" Arnold shouted, hoping the cougars didn't understand speech.
Cless had no weapon ready and she mentally cursed her blunder. She started to punch and kick the cougars, but soon she was surrounded. Her earth armor crumbled under the vicious swipes of the cougars.
"Arnold, now!" She dropped her song and shouted.
"Taunt!"
The gong rang again and the cougars around Cless snarled as they charged the Defender. Cless started to flood the area with Light spells, in hopes of leaving no shadow for them to hide in. As they ran past the guild, Vic, Kurt, and Venaris took their potshots at the charging cougars. Cless used this time to renew her Earth Armor and drop Protection on everyone but Arnold, too far away.
The black cats swarmed the armored man and Cless relieved him.
"Song of the Accord!"
The cats once again burst into flames and ran back to Cless. She noticed that they should've died by now but they were surely slowing down. They bunched up in the corridor when a purple mist cloud appeared in front of their path.
"It seems placing a trap doesn't count as an attack," Vic smirked as he finished casting his spell. The cats were forced to cross the poison cloud and they broke the charge, burning, hissing, and heaving. Cless dropped her spell and soon the cougars were all dead.
For defeating 23 Hellshadow Cougar above your Experience threshold, you earned 13,877 Experience Points. You reached level 61. +1 Stat Point.
"Incoming!" Silverfang shouted from the room floor below.
Cless noticed that her Light spell also was being countered on the other side of the hall. A deep, grave growl shook the whole cave as one big black paw entered the range of the light, almost pushing it back as shadows spread. Cless thought one could cushion a seat with a paw that big. Another paw and the legs. Cless tossed three other Light spells and a huge cat appeared, enveloped in a dark cloud and hissing at them.
That's the boss of the first dungeon floor, Hellshadow Tiger!" Venaris said moments before Cless recollected the memory from the gnomes.
Cless ran down the ramp to catch up with Silverfang, who also ran around the bottom to meet them at the end of the ramp. Cless threw more Light spells and paused to quickly open the menu and dump all her free points in Magic, one point shy from the next multiple of fifty. No time to hoard points that are useless if you die. Leveling up restored most of the power she used, but it was going to be a tough fight.
The same size as an elephant, the Hellshadow Tiger was not too bothered with the wait. He growled and stretched its paws, flexing the claws and roaring at them. As cats usually do, it seemed relaxed and prone to playing with the prey. Cless buffed everyone and Kurt started his bardic song to bolster their combat prowess.
"Everyone ready?" Cless asked.
"Yes! I hate cats!" Silverfang growled and howled a challenge. The tiger... laughed?
"Wait. It is not attacking us. I want to try something," Cless told them. She started to flood the chamber with Light spells, making the tiger more and more annoyed. And then she started to dance. Cless spun, jumped and weaved between the stupefied guild members. After a few minutes, she gave the order.
"Go! Attack now!"
Silverfang ran alongside with Arnold, while Venaris and Vic shot projectiles of iron and poison at the tiger's face.
"Stonewall! – Taunt!"
Arnold triggered two techniques when he reached melee range of the tiger. He swung his hammer at the monster but the paw was no longer there. Silverfang used the distraction to circle around. Two tentacles appeared from behind the monster and started a relentless assault together with the claws at the Defender's shield.
Cless kept dancing and cursed herself for not making a golem for this fight. Silvefant was on the rear paws, away from her sight, almost entirely covered by the shadow mist or aura thing around the elephant-sized tiger. The stream of poison aimed at its snout and sling bullets at its eyes kept the tiger distracted.
"Cover your eyes!" Cless warned with a shout.
Arnold's taunt wore off as the tiger shifted its attention to the pesky werewolf hacking and gnawing its rear paw. The tentacles turned to bash Silverfang when Cless finished her dance.
"Sacred Dance: JUDGEMENT!"
From every light orb but one that she cast around the room, a thick blinding beam of light shot at the tiger. The beams closest to the monster drove away the shadow aura, finally exposing the glossy black fur beneath that seemed to suck almost all light. And suck light was what it did as the remaining beams burned fur, hide and the flesh underneath, opening dozens of holes in its body.
Ichorous blood burst forth from the holes and the tiger, although not entirely dead, was wavering in its legs. Arnold took some distance and charged the tiger.
"Shield Bash!"
The massive cat didn't fall but was forced to move away, stumbling to keep itself upright. Silverfang used the opportunity to cross around its belly, opening a huge gash on the tiger's soft skin.
Cless drew her sword and ran forward, throwing Light spells where the tiger was. Vic shifted his target and aimed his poison bolts at the holes the judgment beams opened. Kurt took wing and flew over the tiger, screeching at it.
"Confusion!"
The tiger seemed disoriented, its tentacles lashing at the ceiling and causing some stones to fall down. Arnold hit the joint in a front paw and Silverfang was cutting off one of its rear leg tendons with his claws and fangs.
Cless cast flametongue on her sword and jumped up and over the tiger, skewering the monster between the neck and shoulder. She put her weight over the broadsword, driving the still flaming blade deep into the wound.
The cat lost support on one side and fell down. Cless could see it was still breathing but out of combat. She regained her footing and drove her sword at the back of its neck under the skull, killing it.
For killing level 51 Hellshadow Tiger, you earned 23,533 Experience Points. You reached Vicar 11. +1 Magic.
Arnold cheered. "I got two whole levels in this fight alone!"
The force that was pushing the light back faded, and the whole room came into sight. There was an opening on the wall where the tiger was hiding on the opposite side of the ramp, probably a tunnel leading down.
A floor vent to the side of this opening was spewing a faint smoke. Cless was going to inspect when Vic held her arm.
"Don't go there. that vent feeds the monster and makes it so that the strongest monsters in this floor fight to take control of it. The monster that can hold the vent will feed off the energies the dungeon releases and works as a guard to stop those on the lower levels from coming up. Not that they don't, but the dungeon likes to make the monsters fight each other. The strongest around keep hold of the vent and that monster is usually called the floor boss. Soon other monsters will come here to—"
Kurt was interrupted when the vent made a sucking noise and stopped spewing the mist.
"Or not. Maybe it shut down for maintenance. Maybe—"
For clearing more than 80% of the monsters in this dungeon level, you earned a reward. You advanced a level. Miasma production in the whole level will shut off for 24 hours. You earned a treasure chest.
The center of the room rumbled and the stone crumbled sideways as a sturdy chest burst from the ground underneath Cless Light spell.
"Now that's a first," Vic hissed.
Cless felt the gears in her mind spin and connect the information.
'The dungeons were created by the Ruler of Midgard to help people get rid of monsters from fragments of his soul. The dungeon can reward people and even count the monsters inside it. Therefore, the dungeon is alive and sentient. Could I even speak to one?'
They approached the chest. Venaris went forward and looked at it. "No traps or lock, sister. Should I open?"
Cless felt giddy. "Yes, please do."
They opened the chest and inside they found a handful of coins, some small glass bottles with obviously magical liquids, a collar made of twine and fangs of different sizes, a steel shield, an amulet made of a polished metal, a carved wooden rod in the shape of a serpent trying to eat a spherical smoky green gem, a strap of golden leather and a small handheld harp.
"Detect Magic!" Vic used the mage spell and his jaw slackened too much. Like, serpentine too much. Cless and Venaris followed him, using the same spell. The items and potions were magical.
"That's not a leather strap, it is a sling." Venaris took the weapon and checked it.
"Funny. It seems to have an item for each of us," Cless commented. It cemented the idea that the dungeon was sentient and helpful. She turned in the direction of the vent and bowed deeply, whispering 'thank you'.
"Arnold, the shield is yours. This one you are using took quite the punishment. We split the coins evenly in six and the other items we'll see what they do when we return home. Once we get the potions appraised we can see about handing you one or paying your share."
"That's fine by me, Cless. As you hired me with the Stat Points, I would not even be eligible for any loot." The boy was... blushing?
"Shut up and take the shield. It is yours."
Cless created two more Deeppockets, one for the loot and another for the tiger pelt. She also took the fangs and claws and even one thigh bone. Neither Silverfang or Vic wanted to eat the entrails so she burned them.
"I think we shouldn't brave the second level. Who is against going home? We still need to deliver lumber to Mr. Anders."
They were all tired. The guild left the dungeon and it was early morning. They spent a whole day inside. They went back to the gnome village, collected the weapon bundle, back to the cave to get the cart and then across the river. The whole forest smelled like carrion.
For using your class proficiencies since you last slept, you earned 30,000 Experience Points.
They slept on the other margin of the river, too tired to walk for a few more hours and reach the town. They couldn't ride the golem if the cart would hold their weight.
Cless looked at the amulet. It was strange. There was a serpent going across the edge of the circular piece, eating its own tail. In the middle, there were three triangles intertwined, as if it represented three mountains. She didn't know what that was.
She'd discover what tomorrow once one of the heroes appraised the items for them. She was sure one of them could.
Cless was so happy with this expedition's success that she even forgot about the Inquisition.

The Genesis System
Genesis. It is the end of countless stories. The end of thousands of universes, billions of planets, and trillions of lives. But what is taken may also be given, as shown in the story of Cael King. If you enjoy the general premise of the novel, this is the refined (more reliable plot progression, character development, better pacing/writing) version: Rewrite> https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/20887/re-rabbit-eyes

[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] - Winner November 2020 When a young woman is lured back to her homeland for the opportunity of a life time, she must face old fears. But never would she think that facing up to her past would change everything. Is History written by the victors, or by someone or something else...? *** I started writing this a few years ago and eventually fell out of love with it. I never finished it and my newer books are being written in different writing style, and genre with a more planned process. I decided to revisit it for the writathon and found that it wasn't as hopeless as I'd come to think. Hopefully, I've improved as a writer since them so the consistency may vary. Its been good to revisit and analyse my writing which I feel used to have some clunky and obvious dialogue which I'm trying to fix. This will always be my first novel and I hope, with a little exposure, I may come to like it again. Thanks for reading!

8 100Economicalopoly
Humanity had gotten this far. How far, might you be wondering? Quite far indeed. The world had effectively become an ecumenopolis, almost; not in real life at least, in Economicalopoly of course! More on that later, in our story the main character is Charlie. Charlie was an exceptionally talented young man, the key word being 'was'. He was an incredibly unmotivated individual who generally steered clear from other 'Homo sapiens' as he put it. This was all because of an accident he had early on in life, when he was but 15 years old.
