《Approaching Ascension (Book 1) [Hiatus before Book 2]》Chapter 054

His fist which was covered in the silver glow from Aura Infusion, smashed the illusory sword, and smashed it apart! He felt a mild feedback through his arm as he had a savage grin on his face. His Aura Infusion enhanced punches could counter the floating illusory sword! With one less sword to distract him, he performed a backhand against the other pesky illusory sword, sweeping it aside like a curtain as he closed the distance with his opponent.
His opponent no longer had the smug confident look on his face as Fang Hao came in range and striking punching his Qi barrier with a flurry of aura infused punches. Soon, the opponent's barrier shattered, but he had also completed his spell! A hawk made of golden thunder materialized and instantly shot towards Fang Hao. A sense of crisis filled Fang Hao, as he immediately activated the membrane barrier from his armadillo leather gloves and charged ahead instead of retreating.
The golden thunder hawk impacted against Fang Hao's torso and the turned a large part of his inner disciple robes to dust. But when it made contact with his pulsating membrane barrier, it was decomposed into streaks of lighting and dissipated all over the membrane barrier. The barrier also lost a noticeable amount of shimmer, but it had allowed Fang Hao to take the golden thunder hawk spell head-on in almost perfect condition.
'Now that your spells are countered, nobody can stop me from beating you up, you smug little shit.' thought Fang Hao as he lunged towards his opponent, angling his knee to strike at his opponent's abdomen. His impressive physique collided with the thin inner disciple and caused him to fall backwards. Fang Hao landed on his chest and he was about to smash his opponent's jaw with full force when suddenly, somebody caught his arm. The grumpy old man had appeared before him, with the creepy looking giant mosquito at his side.

“Enough junior. You win. Go to the waiting area and have some of the spirit wine there to restore your Qi. Your next match should be in 15-20 minutes.” the grumpy old man addressed Fang Hao.
'Well, the presiding judge can stop me anytime...'
Fang Hao withdrew his punches, bowed and clasped his hands at the judge and replied in a respectful tone, “As senior commands, this junior will take his leave.” As Fang Hao retreated and was about to leave, his opponent got up and addressed the grumpy looking old man judge.
“Senior, the match could have continued. I had activated three minor guard talismans before the fatty collided my stomach. I had a small chance to win.” The grumpy looking man, despite his features, had a good temperament as he replied with a question.
“Is it junior? Check again and tell me how many of those minor guard talismans still have energy left.” The thin pale looking cultivator looked at his chest, beneath his robes and his plae looking face became paler.
“Senior is wise and experienced. Only one of the minor guard talismans are left untouched.”
“Yes junior, that fatty's little charge at the end would have broken your spine if not for the minor guard talismans. His last punch would have easily drained that last remaining minor guard talisman and smashed your jaws to pulp. And since you disrespected me by questioning my fair judgment, I ban you from the arena for a month.” It turns out that the grumpy old man judge wasn't too good natured after all. But the thin pale cultivator didn't utter a single word in protest as he meekly clasped his hands and retreated cursing his big mouth.
Fang Hao exited the arena and made his way to the waiting room. There were dozens of inner disciples there chatting and drinking a pale red colored liquid from wooden goblets. Fang Hao eagerly made his way to a table where numerous wooden goblets filled with pale red liquid were kept. He grabbed one and took a tentative sip. Then he gulped down the whole goblet and had a look of disappointment on his face as he grabbed another wooden glass of wine and started drinking it like water.

'Master Zhu is the best. This is not spirit wine. This is water which has been diluted with a little spirit wine. But then again, its free so this was kind of expected.' he had finished half a dozen of those goblets of 'spirit wine' before he felt the onset of an alcoholic buzz. During this at, Fang Hao's act caused him to attract a significant amount of attention in the waiting hall.
“Look at that fatty. He just keeps on drinking the spirit wine like water.”
“I know. He doesn't intend to fight the further matches.”
“It might be a bit shameless, but its not a bad strategy. He must have barely won the previous match and must be loading up on the spirit wine.”
“Yeah while it may not be the best quality spirit wine. For a new inner disciple it is quite a good cultivation resource.”
“Or perhaps he is a body cultivator. They have a lot more tolerance to spirit wine.”
Due to Fang Hao's sharp senses, quite a few of these murmurs reached his ears as he swallowed his 9th goblet of spirit wine.
'Bah. Youth these days have no tolerance to alcohol. At least they know their limits. I am not even decently buzzed with this piss like wine. But they do have a point though. I shouldn't drink too much now and be too buzzed to fight at 100%.'
Fang Hao then retreated into an isolated corner and closed his eyes, circulating the Qi according to the Divine Vajra body Scripture, trying to channel the excess Qi into his body cultivation. But surprisingly, there was barely any effect of doing so.
'Looks like without the postures, its not much sue cultivating the Divine Vajra body Scripture. At least my inebriation is totally gone now. That means I can drink a lot more and get sober enough in time for the match!' thought Fang Hao excitedly as he almost hopped towards the goblets filled with the spirit wine.

Is it a mistake to challenge fate, after all? *** The world-building is set upon on the universal scale, with dungeon and old-style fantasy. It has a progression that follows with the consistency of a dungeon setting, although it's not what you call a dungeon, but a function of a crystal. There's a lot to take in this novel, but that's all within my intention. I have always enjoyed challenging conventional ideas. The cover is not mine, it's just temporary.
