《High Skies Piracy》Lore Entry 2: Gangs of Tumba

The Gangs of Tumba
While an insidious and unwanted element in most societies, the gangs of Tumba are part of the glue that keeps the violent city together. Aside from the dubious influence of its governor, the gangs are the only ones with the power to enforce any kind of order in the city. The three major gangs have split the city between them, carving out territories to further their own areas of interest. The major gangs are as follows:
The Masks
Background:
The Masks are a collection of common criminals, depraved even by Tumba’s standards, who make no attempt at nobility or honor. They are a newly established gang, springing up twenty years ago under their leader, the Butcher. In this short time, however, they have managed to secure themselves a strong spot in the power structure by aggressively enforcing their territory and striking at rival gangs directly, stealing whatever they can.
Most other parties in the Free Cities despise the Masks, but can do little to contend with them in terms of fighting prowess. The Masks are famed for their namesake, the white masks each member wears. The masks are a remnant of Ashlandic tradition, where the faces of the dead are covered by masks that are enchanted to ward off demonic influence. When not on gang business, many of its members still choose to wear their masks on their arm, belt, or around their neck.
The Masks mainly dip into entertainment and bloodsport as a way of earning income, especially in the powerbrawl scene. They fund a few pirate crews, but pour most of their resources into street-level enforcement. They successfully drove off the local chapter of the Red Street Rippers—formerly one of the big three gangs in Tumba—planting themselves firmly in the city during the ensuing power vacuum.

Leader:
Etin “The Butcher” Sakaarn
Territory:
Western part of the Proving Yard, western part of Fool’s Glint, the Ruins, southern part of the Pleasure District, southern part of Flotsam.
The Revelers
Background:
The Revelers are a gang who believe in absolute freedom. It was started by Arqen the Gentle, their leader, only ten years ago. They generally use a hands-off approach to dealing with their territories, enforcing their rules through fostering an unbreakable loyalty. Those who break the few rules of the Revelers, however, receive no kindness from its leadership, and are punished harshly.
The Revelers tend to prostitution, gambling, and arms trade. Because of their ties with several larger factions off the archipelago, they have access to large quantities of quality weapons. The Revelers hold regular votes to decide their leader, but Arqen comes out the clear winner every time.
They are dedicated to freedom and democracy, and will often work with pirate crews or paramilitary organizations to further the future freedom of the Aiyek Archipelago, their goal being to instate a true democracy across all islands, at which point Arqen claims he will dismantle the gang.
Areas of interest:
-Arms dealing
-Street enforcement
-Prostitution
-Gambling
Leader:
Arqen the Gentle
Territory:
Eastern part of the Perch, the Sunken District, northern part of Flotsam.
The Outlaw Clan
Background:
The Outlaw Clan consists largely of clanless lubbards from various clans who have come together under a single banner operating throughout the Free Cities, chiefly Tumba. All members of this clan take the name Zaman to symbolize their union, even those not of the seafolk. In the century since their inception, they have clawed their way to relevancy in the Aiyek Archipelago through violence, intimidation, and bribery, always carefully considered and specifically targeted.

Through their great knowledge of the sea and access to smuggling routes both under and above it, they have amassed a great command over the trade coming in and out of the Free Cities. They fund many pirate crews, both to harass their competition, protect their own trade routes, and bring in valuable salvage. The Outlaw Clan is always ruled by a single leader, known as a patriarch or matriarch respectively, who has to be of lubbard blood.
Areas of interest:
-Trade
-Assassination
-Drugs
Leader:
Lecco Zaman
Territory:
Eastern part of Fool’s Glint, western part of the Perch, northern part of the Pleasure District, the Shiccuen Market.

The Perks of Immortality
This story will no longer be updated. After living decades and dying hundreds of times, Kegan has learned that he has finally passed some test that the cruel spirit had given him. Now, Kegan has the ability to gain “perks” that can make his life much easier. He is looking forward to finally having an easy life with the new perks he has earned. Rules to keep me honest for the perk system: Spoiler: Spoiler 1. The purpose of perks is to help the MC live longer and do new things each life. 2. The perks can be unlocked by getting hurt or killed. 3. The perks can be unlocked by putting in a lot of effort that isn’t easily duplicated in a new life. 4. Perks are generally beneficial enhancements to the MC’s body. 5. Perk costs can be lowered with more impressive achievements to unlock them. 6. Perk costs can be lowered by repeated death or injury from something the perk protects against. 7. Perk costs are increased for quality of life improvements that don’t benefit survival. I want to avoid one of the pitfalls I see for other LitRPG stories where the game elements barely relate to the story, or offer very little information. If people are skipping over and not reading the perks then I'm doing things wrong. So I promise to try and make the perks interesting, sometimes humorous, informative, and relevant to the story.Cover art by http://dertypaws.com/

She Who Reigns the Stars [Vol. 1]
*Remastered version of She Who Reigns the Stars* Tell me, what will become of us? Presenting your Goddess… Asteria, Supreme Deity of Stalera, the nation of the Universe. She who rules the stars with steel eyes and an iron will, the glorious, the beautiful, the adored Goddess, has now fallen under the hands of her nemesis… The Archfiend, Emperor of Talonis, the nation of Vice and its Shadows, has now assumed reign over Stalera after the death of the Goddess. With the power of Vice, its Shadows, and the Universe, it is assumed that he would be satisfied now that Stalera was under his mercy, and the other two nations of Yelerna and Antalis would follow suit. But much to our surprise, he isn’t because he still lacks the… Ruby, The Goddess’ last attempt to save her empire and the entirety of the Universe. Before her death, the Goddess sealed a portion of her blood, which contained the remaining powers of the Universe the Archfiend hadn’t obtained, away from his grasp. She entrusted it to one of her Zodiac Warriors, a member of her elite service known as the Zodiac Warrior Circle, and instructed him to hide the precious jewel on Earth. The restoration of Stalera and the defeat of the Archfiend would lie in the hands of whoever inherited the ruby jewel. Those who inherited the ruby were known as the Goddess’ Successor, and the one next in line to inherit it is… Auriella Corentin. Life was never the same for Auriella the night her Grandmama gave her the ruby jewel and died, thrusting the poor girl into a world of magic. Now in possession of the Goddess’ blood, it wouldn’t be long until the Archfiend found her, killed her, and obtained her ruby inheritance. But Auriella never wanted this responsibility, not when she had her own past and inner demons to battle against. Nevertheless, she finds herself seeking an alliance with the Zodiac Warriors and a strange barista as she learns to wield the powers the Goddess bestowed to her. But as frequent demon attacks, a secret admirer (or stalker), strange notes, and a handsome, amber-eyed boy pile onto her plate, it is no longer clear whether the universe needed Auriella to be their savior or to be the Goddess’ (inferior) replacement. A Goddess in need of redemption. Four Nations at the brink of destruction. Our question still remains unanswered… What will become of us? [Updates Monday, Wednesday, Friday @8pm PST]
