《Father of Monsters》Chapter 15 The dungeon got a makeover

Leon was comfortably situated in pile of naked flesh at the moment. His night had gone from normal to mildly terrifying to fantastic in a quick series of events that still had him a little confused, but he was happy with it. The girls had apparently assumed, and kind of rightly so that Leon was a virgin and wouldn’t know what to do. But in his past life Leon had had plenty of experience, just not like this. Much to his own surprise he’d outlasted all four of them and had had a lot of fun getting there. Having superhuman strength and endurance translated really well into being able to do things he’d only ever imagined doing in the past.

He had a problem right now though… he had to pee. Badly. Instead of trying to extricate himself from the post coital cuddle puddle he currently found himself in physically however, Leon simply used Quantum Blink to get out of the four women’s embrace. He quickly ran for the restroom relieved himself.

Returning to the bedroom Leon found that the girls hadn’t really moved. Apparently, they were deep sleepers. Either that or he’d really exhausted them last night. Leon really needed to put some windows into his house. Because right now he was very unsure of what time it was. He walked over to the front door and took a peak outside, finding that it was still dark out, but the horizon was lightening up just a bit.

It was then that he noticed a blinking light in the bottom corner of his vision. He’d apparently gotten a notification last night that he’d somehow minimized. Concentrating on it Leon brought up the notification and snorted at it. Oh, this was a good one.

Leon chuckled as he accepted the skills. They were quality of life skills in his book. And the Title just made sex better if he was involved. He would not deny that benefit ever.

Looking around his home Leon realized a few things. One, he needed a bigger bed if this was going to start being a regular thing. Two, he was hungry, and he needed to start making some breakfast. Slicing some hog meat into bacon was easy, though it didn’t really taste the same. He hadn’t seen any regular pigs in the Dungeon yet. Soon he hoped to find some to make regular bacon a part of his diet again. Who didn’t love bacon?

Using his Create Monster Skill Leon made a couple dozen chicken eggs and slapped them on a pan and started making some scrambled eggs to go with the bacon. It would be a basic ass breakfast for five, but Leon was using his cooking skill heavily. The cooking skill was a marvelous skill that somehow just made things taste better. He wasn’t going to question it; he was just going to use it and be happy that it worked.

Leon wasn’t even done cooking when the girls wandered out of the bedroom, fully clothed unfortunately, and plopped down at the table. Leon plated the food and distributed it among the women before realizing that he hadn’t actually dressed himself yet. Shaking his head, he equipped clothes directly from his utility pocket before he sat down with the girls.

“He cooks, he does things I’d never even considered in bed, handsome, and he’s good at killing things in Dungeon… I might be rethinking my stance on marriage at this point.” Far said with a chuckle as she tucked in. Eliciting a series of giggles from the other three, and a mild panic attack in Leon. He was far too young for that shit.

“Speaking of the bed, Leon you need to get a better one. Its not big enough, and I like having more pillows.” Daisy chimed in.

“Yeah, and you need a couple of dressers and maybe a bigger bathroom. Probably do well to have a few couches and couple more chairs in here too.” Cynthia said.

Lamia and the others nodded to that. It kind of felt like the girls were trying to move in with him. He didn’t really mind that, it would slow down his personal growth, but he’d still gotten in six hours of growing Cynarina and about an hour of Lore book reading after they’d had their fun.

“For right now I am focusing on growing the house and the wall. Once the Telepad is up and running I intend to get some glass panes for windows and few more necessities. You girls are free to add to that stuff however you like.” Leon commented as they listed off things he needed. Little did Leon know that he would eventually come to regret that last comment.

Team Terra ate breakfast while talking quietly about their plans for the day, before and after their dungeon dive. Leon’s plans hadn’t changed all that much. Keep growing Cynarina and his centipede monsters while reading some more Lore books. The girls were talking about getting a bigger bed made and maybe reworking their houses, hanging out with their other friends, fishing. The list of things to do on the Island was small.

They were all planning on just lazing around his house for a while yet seeing as how they were going to be dead last to dive the dungeon today. Breakfast was done and Leon had just finished doing the dishes when a knock resounded on the front door. Leon wasn’t surprised this time; he’d been paying attention to his sphere. Malorie was at the door.

Leon blinked over and opened it to let her in. But she didn’t come in she just pointed back at the dungeon.

“The Dungeon Tiered up. Everyone decided that Team Terra should be the first ones in to see what’s changed. Your team is the highest level overall, it could be really dangerous in there now. If you all decide that its too dangerous to go beyond a certain point us mentors will keep it cleared from that point onward. Get your team ready.” She said then headed back towards the Dungeon.

Leon glanced over his shoulder to find his team already standing behind him.

“You all heard her, let’s get going.”

Soon enough they were standing outside the Dungeon entrance. Apparently not only had the interior likely changed dramatically the exterior statue had changed as well. It had turned into a huge if familiar globe. It was model of Earth carved out of a solid grey rock. The sight nearly brought a tear to his eyes as he read the single word written beneath the globe directly over the archway. It read “Legacy of Earth” in English. Everyone else present was puzzling over the strange runes not understanding what they wrote. This was confirmation to Leon that the Dungeon was a Sapient being. Perhaps even a soul from Earth.

Descending the stairway to the first floor they found it completely changed. First off, it was obvious that the first floor had been remodeled into a Biome floor. Unlike the third floor Biome, this one was Serengeti like there was tall grass with creeks running through it. the occasional lone tree. There was a large herd of what looked like gazelle grazing about two miles away. And Leon spotted a few giraffes off in the distance. The whole floor seemed like it was at least as large as the third floor had been.

The fact that entire floor had gotten much larger and was now a biome floor meant that it was much more dangerous now. Leon felt the ambient mana and knew that the floor was still within the parameters of Tier 1 but so was he and meant that they could die. Carefully Team Terra began exploring.

Team Terra took their time exploring the new first floor. They found ore Stalagmites randomly sequestered around the massive floor. The gazelles were obviously meant to be the new food animal of the floor. The predators of the floor were hyenas, lions, chetahs, African pained dogs, jackals, servals, mongooses, caracals, and rock hyrax. Among the notable non predators were the ostrich, giraffe, a pair of elephants near the center of the room, some Zebras, Impalas, and hippos in the ponds. Honestly there were more animals packed into the floor than Leon was willing to count. And they all seemed to be centered on an African theme.

And in keeping with the theme of Africa, everything seemed to be fairly dangerous. The lions were fast and strong. the hyenas cackled and attacked viciously with bites powerful enough to rend their armor. A freaking rhinoceros came out of nowhere and nearly impaled Lamia while they were facing off against a pack of wild dogs.

They only spent about an hour exploring the first floor. In that time, they found ten treasure chests and came away ten silver richer each, along with a bunch more repeat Lore books and potions. Along with a bunch of random metal ingots. After defeating the pair of elephants in the center of the floor, the group finally found the staircase leading to the next floor.

The second floor was also drastically different.

“It so beautiful.” Lamia gushed as they emerged into the second floor.

It was a humongous cave Biome floor centered around cave dwelling animals. It was kind of odd after the danger of the Biome floor above, this Biome floor had mostly smaller creatures that were not even hostile, crayfish, salamanders, cave fish in the little streams, snails, frogs, toads, and worms. There were a few dangerous beasts in here that sort of fit the theme of caves, like bears, badgers, a few foxes, alligators, and crocs. The walls of the cavern were covered in bioluminescent things. Creating a stary night look everywhere. A lot of the floor was dedicated ponds with tons of fish and other water dwelling creatures. There were ores to harvest all over the place but otherwise the dimly lit cavern was a walk in the park compared to the first floor. It took the Team no more than five minutes to find the staircase down to the next level.

The third floor was the same as it had been before. Jungle, and more Jungle creatures. Team Terra managed to fight their way through it until they came to where the exit crystal had been before. Now there was a hole in the ground with a spiral staircase.

Descending to the newly created fourth floor Leon had no idea what to expect, he did notice that every floor they went down the mana density in the environment increased by small amount. Though it was still in the first Tier.

The fourth floor opened up into the floor yet and again it was a Biome Floor. But this one made Leon’s gut clench. They’d emerged from the stairwell onto a small beach surrounded by a small ocean. The place was brightly lit, and Leon was fairly certain that whole of the floor extended nearly twenty miles in every direction. Out in the middle of the ocean Biome was an island where Leon assumed that the staircase down to another floor would be.

“Well as awesome as an ocean biome is. None of us are made for water.” Cynthia said, eyeballing the water in front of them.

“Do we call it here and return with a boat to try and reach the island over there?” Far asked.

“Honestly this is probably the most dangerous floor so far. If we try to swim that distance, I’d wager that some very nasty things would come to investigate and eat us.” Daisy sighed solemnly.

“We will definitely need a form of transportation to get through this floor. As awesome as it is. We are not equipped to deal with it. And aquatic monsters tend to be much more dangerous, and larger. Much harder to kill. We should report back what we’ve found so far and prepare a way to cross the water safely.” Lamia commented.

“Let’s get back up there then. No sense in staying. Though the fishing might be pretty damn good in here.” Leon said as they all began their trek back up the stairwell.

“You do realize that a floor like this means that Mer and amphibious races are going to be clamoring to get into this dungeon eventually, right? I don’t think it will take too long before they want to establish an outpost in the ocean outside if only for this one floor. Our Dungeon City is going to be so famous. Especially as it seems to be composed of only Biome floors now. This is currently the most unique dungeon that I’ve ever heard of.” Cynthia practically gushed, “We are all going to be so rich!”

Leaving the dungeon through walking out was a strange feeling for Leon and the team. They’d never left like this before. They always used the Exit Crystals. What they found as they returned to the surface was that the animals they’d killed to progress were back and ready for round two as they made their way out. Meaning that they had to fight their way back through to the exit.

Emerging from the dungeon they went through their usual reporting of their finds. And after that the mentors were excited. The fact that every floor seemed to be Biome floor meant that the students wouldn’t need to go in just as parties one at a time. The Dungeon could now easily support all fifty students at once. And the ocean Biome floor was of particular interest to them because it would bring in a great deal more interest in the Dungeon when the island was opened to the general public.

Diving the Dungeon now would be different from before. The Mentees were being mandated an obligatory eight hours a day dive. The Mentors were handling construction efforts and getting the Telepad running.

Leon’s group was done for the day though. They wanted to prepare for a deeper dive and cross the ocean biome. Crossing that ocean would require either the ability to fly, or a boat. Leon was going to make a boat. With the girls help and the vast quantities of wood he had stored in his utility pocket, Leon had no doubt that they’d be able to make one rather quickly. It didn’t need to be a mighty sea fairing vessel. It just needed to be able to ferry them across 5 to 10 miles of smooth water. That ought to be fairly easy.

Leon didn’t even think he’d need to worry about the sea life either. If he pumped his Perception Filter up to the maximum while crossing, the boat should be ignored. With a plan laid out and the girls on board to help, Leon began setting out the framework of what would essentially be a pontoon boat big enough for five people. It took the rest of the day to construct the vessel. But at the end Leon was positive that it would do the job he needed it to do. Tomorrow morning Team Terra would beeline it for the deeper floors.

Malorie FleshShaper

Malorie and the other mentors gathered after their pupils had all turned in for the night. This meeting was called for due to the crazy unusual behavior of the dungeon. The vast variety of monsters that it had available was an oddity. They had no idea where it was getting the strange things that it made, but the issue was its rapid pace of development.

“What do you all think?” Was the question posed by Elroy, the de facto leader of the Mentors due to his seniority here.

“I believe that the rapid development is due mostly to the fact that the Dungeon has so many different species within it which has allowed it to create solely Biome Floors. It would only need ten Biome floors for it to be able to advance if the current theories about dungeon development are true. No Dungeon has ever had enough different creatures within it to establish more than one distinct biome floor per hundred floors before that I am aware of. Usually when dungeons have enough to make one, they do, and usually get rid of ten other floors in the process.”

“I’d say that it is more likely that this Dungeon has access directly to some kind of vein of mana. We haven’t detected anything around here that would indicate one though.”

“Where is it getting all those monsters it has though?”

“Where it’s getting them is not a relevant factor. We simply need to observe how it grows and report it to the higher ups once we’ve established the Telepad link. Which should only be a few days now.”

“What are we going to report? That a four-month-old Dungeon has not only reached Tier 2 already, but has also set records in every aspect that has ever been recorded? I doubt that they’ll even take a report like that seriously. And if they did take it seriously it might even be worse. They might try and replace us. Or everyone here just to privatize this dungeon entirely for some higher ups family.”

“We will report that the Dungeon is progressing surprisingly fast. That is all we will say on the matter.” Elroy spoke resoundingly, “What we really need is to find out exactly what factors are causing this rapid development. Until it grows to Tier 3, we are not truly going to have to worry about an overflow but once it reaches that threshold, we will all need to start diving ourselves. If at that time it appears that the Dungeon is progressing towards Tier 4 at a rapid pace… that is when we will inform the higher ups and get this founding period ended prematurely. But I highly doubt we are going to have to worry about it hitting Tier 4 before the natural end of the founding process.”

All around Malorie the Mentors were nodding or verbalizing agreement with the man. She agreed with the man. The fear that some of the higher ups may try and privatize this dungeon was a legitimate one. It wasn’t often that people within the Guild abused their authority, but when they did… It never turned out well for those caught under them. Their best bet was to ride out the three-year founding period and then reveal how extraordinary it was.

“Does anyone know what the runes above the entrance say? Very few dungeons ever mark their exteriors with runes or letters.” A voice in the crowd called out.

Malorie perked up at this one. She didn’t know what the runes were, but she had seen someone writing in a notebook using those selfsame runes. She didn’t know the answer right now.

“I have seen those kinds of runes before.” Malorie spoke, “I know someone who can translate them for us.”

“Fat load of good that does us right now. Can’t bring anyone here.”

“Well, the person in question happens to be my Mentee. So, I’m pretty sure we’ll have that answer tomorrow. Wouldn’t want to disturb him right now though, pretty sure he has company right now.” She said with a little chuckle in her voice.

“Well, that’s one question easily solved then. For now, make sure your pupils know not to send word about the uniqueness of our little Dungeon to anyone until the founding period is over.” Elroy said sternly “This meeting is adjourned.”

Annise Chungledown

Annise sighed as she read over the letter from her mother once again. The fact that they were pushing her to marry again irked her to no end. She was doing well on her own. When Jim passed, he’d not only left her a sizable sum of money which could have held her over for the next fifty years comfortably, she’d also started a very successful apothecary business. Growing and supplying herbs and spices to the various alchemists and restaurants in Dungeon City #12. She had the top floor of her home remodeled into a greenhouse and had spent the past fifteen years modifying it into a nearly self-sustaining system that required minimal effort on her part. She’d installed a series of large fish tanks with enchanted pipes that drew water and filtered the water down through her growing beds before returning it to the tanks. The clippings and excess from the plants sustained the fish with a little extra in the form of mana infusion from herself the entire system was able to produce enough herbs and spices to not only sustain her way of life but also save a bit.

She wasn’t really interested in getting married again. She was still young by Gnome standards. She’d be celebrating her 135th birthday in only a few months. The worst part about this whole arranged marriage deal was that the man in question, Gerard, or something like that already had a wife and apparently three children. Annise didn’t like children she’d always known that she’d end up with sister wives, Jim had actually been courting a lovely woman by the name of Matilda to add to their home just before his untimely death. Annise was actually a little sad that that hadn’t gone through. Matilda was a full-on Alchemist and rather successful, she would have been a great addition to the family, and she didn’t come from an old family either. There wouldn’t have been any familial pressure from her side to marry a cousin or something like that, it would have only been Jim’s and her families to deal with.

The letter in her hand said that the man had agreed to the arrangement and that both families were paying to get them teleported to Dungeon City #12 within the next three months. He precious alone time was about to be sullied by people that she didn’t know. She couldn’t back out of this either. Annise had agreed to allow her family to arrange this if they allowed her 30 years of peace before they did. They’d upheld the agreement and even given her a year longer than she expected. All she could do now was hope that the Crumbl family was as nice as her mother made them out to be.

Leon Crumbl

“It says ‘Legacy of Earth’ in English.” Leon responded cautiously. The word English didn’t really translate to this new language very well, “Why do you ask?”

“Oh, the other Mentors were curious about the meaning of the runes. I’d seen you write down runes like those before, they are quite distinct so I figured you would be able to clear up our curiosity.” Malorie said matter of factly.

“Glad to help. Any suggestions for what we do after we get past the Ocean Biome floor?”

“No, just to be very careful if you get down to the Tier 2 floors. Do not try to engage anything that might be above the mid-grade of Tier 2. As strong as you and your group is, anything at that level will at least inflict one or two casualties before you’d be able to flee. The gap in power between the two Tiers is quite large. You’ll understand when you reach it.”

“I figured as much. If we make it down that far we will probably just hang out at the entrance and try to see what’s down there.”

“Your team seems to have become quite close to you.” Malorie said glancing past Leon’s large frame and into his home were Team Terra seemed to be arrayed around his dinning table, “Be careful you don’t steal away too many of the girls, or the other males here might start… Let’s say doing some rather unsavory things out of jealousy.”

Leon’s face went red as a deep blush overtook his features. Malorie laughed as she waved and retreated towards the Dungeon once more. Leaving Leon standing there feeling all sorts of embarrassed.

“You girls ready to leave?”

A combination of “Whenever you are.” And “We are waiting on you.” Was the reply he got. Shrugging and trying to forget his embarrassment Leon activated Knull Armor and started making his way towards the Dungeon entrance.

Diving through the Dungeon was a different experience now that there were multiple teams in there all at once. The teams were rotating around the massive Biome floors allowing things time to respawn in between kills. They easily made their way down to the fourth floor again. The miniature ocean reflecting the light that seemed to have no actual source down here in the dungeon.

Leon got the group packed tightly around him before activating Perception Filter and dropping their little pontoon boat onto the calm waters from his Utility Pocket. The group stepped on and went about pushing off from the beach and rowing slowly towards their destination. Leon also activated Stealth while focusing on trying to hide the boat and his team as they crossed.

He didn’t know if it worked at all, but Team Terra managed to reach the Island at the center of the mini ocean after about thirty minutes of rowing. Storing the pontoon boat Leon and company went about examining the island. It was only a few hundred feet wide, composed mainly of rocks and large boulders. And it was far from deserted. Seagulls, Penguins, Pelicans, and a dozen other species of bird all seemed to suddenly take flight when the group landed. There were Iguanas running around as well.

That was when their first encounter happened on the island. There were crocodiles. A lot of them. And they were huge, angry, and apparently hungry. They shot up from the waters surrounding the island and beelined it for the group. Leon idly wondering if he should have kept Perception Filter running. But he figured that the large number of nearly 20-foot-long reptilian monsters would make for a good warm up after the inaction over the last half hour.

The battle lasted all of fifteen minutes and resulted in more than a hundred saltwater crocodiles slaughtered mercilessly. It wasn’t that the creatures were not dangerous. The battle had been fairly easy because they were on land. The Team had easily outmaneuvered the crocs and dealt lethal wounds rapidly. Using Instant Harvest on the corpses actually took longer than the fight itself had. Leon needing to pause to recharge his mana time and again. Between his Source and the natural mana accumulation Leon’s regeneration rate was very fast. But he could still use it faster than he gained it.

After harvesting the corpses Leon soon spotted a treasure chest hidden among the rocks and called the girls over to it. Opening it to find basically the same spread of usual items though there was a quality set of fishing gear in there as well. Storing it all for later, Leon and the girls made their way to the center of the Island finding the staircase down to the fifth floor.
