《A Snail's Wisdom》Chapter 118: A Professional Must Stay Professional, Even in Death

Everyone’s faces stiffened in horror.
The males stared at Kenja in utter disbelief, several of them with their mouths wide-open.
The girls blushed or turned their heads in vicarious embarrassment.
Spitting had always been considered a vulgar action that women would avoid performing in public, but Kenja had taken it a step further and done the unfathomable, the unthinkable, the unmentionable…
He gargled!
It was only Hanabi who stared at Kenja with a clueless expression as she had yet to learn of the vulgarity or meaning of spitting and other such actions.
After gargling a mouthful of saliva for five whole seconds, Kenja spat on the First Elder’s floor.
Such an action was completely out of place with Hirai Hikaru’s usual demeanor that even several of the elders could not reconcile her current appearance with the one moments ago.
Witnessing such vulgar and fearless rudeness, the elders wondered what had happened to the polite, little girl who spoke so humbly.
Kondo, Gao Diao, and Ariyoshi Miji peeked at their First Brother whose face was just stepped on brutally by the most junior of junior disciples. Sweat trickled down their backs nervously as they regretted not stepping in earlier to prevent this disaster from occurring.
After insulting an elder of the sect to this extent and blatantly disrespecting the sacred authority he held, it was too difficult to step forward and protect Kenja from their brother’s wrath.
First Elder Kaitou Daiki had an ugly expression on his face with one eye bulging madly at the girl who dared to spit on his floor and face.
He was already outraged with her indirect remarks, but after witnessing her powerful charming technique, he decided to let her off with only a heavy punishment. Yet, she flagrantly spit on his floor as a “thank you” to him.

No one would blame him for exterminating this repugnant vixen. Even his Fifth Sister would be forced to swallow her words.
Just as he was about to erase Kenja’s existence, a cleaning towel appeared in his hand.
He stayed his hand to see what he would do. If Kenja happened to dig his grave deeper, it would make explaining things to Fifth Sister easier.
Kenja got on his knees and began mixing the blood still dripping from his nose with the extra-large loogie he had just expelled from his mouth. Periodically, he would spit again as if disrespecting him just once was not enough.
“Big sister, what are you doing?”
Hanabi’s eyes blazed with curiosity as she looked at Kenja focused on scrubbing the floor.
“What does it look like I’m doing? I’m thanking the First Elder for his valuable lesson by cleaning his floor! It’s important to show our elders respect and gratitude for taking care of us.”
The Tributaries cringed at Kenja’s explanation.
He was smearing an even mixture of blood and spit across the floor using a towel.
This was obviously the opposite of cleaning…
“Now, are you going to just keep watching your big sister clean alone, or are you going to help me?”
Kenja took out a second towel and tossed it to Hanabi.
Hanabi disliked the First Elder for his previous mocking and for targeting them with his killing intent, but she had already accepted Kenja’s alter ego as her big sister in her heart. Thus, she decided she would follow Kenja’s lead faithfully.
Additionally, she had never cleaned anything before as it was an activity unfitting for a princess. Only the palace maids and servants would do the cleaning, so she was excited to experience something new.
She nodded her head and kneeled on the floor, positioning herself next to Kenja.

“Big sister, don’t we need water for cleaning?”
Kenja shook his head in denial.
“Little sister is truly young and inexperienced. You don’t always have water available, so you have to improvise. That’s where this comes in handy,” he paused to spit on the floor as an example, “Just like that. Now, you try.”
“Un. That does make some sense,” she nodded her head in understanding before pulling her veil down. Her red brows furrowed cutely, focusing on the floor, before pursing her light pink lips to spit on the floor.
PTU~
She pouted in disappointment at her work.
“The amount is so small compared to yours, big sister! Why is that?”
Kenja stopped scrubbing to place a hand on his chin and evaluate the princess’s spit closely, “Hmmm, don’t worry. This was not bad for your first time. Look closely, and copy me.”
Kenja tilted his head upwards to gargle saliva for ten full seconds.
Once again, the younger males cringed at the sight, and the girls were desperate to stop Kenja from continuing the horrific act. Unfortunately, the elders’ auras had enveloped everyone aside from Kenja and Hanabi, warning all not to intervene.
PTOOOOEY
Kenja released an even larger amount of spittle than the first time.
“Got it? Now, it’s your turn.”
Determined to succeed, she tilted her head up and began gargling her saliva for fifteen seconds. Her veil slid off her head, allowing her crimson hair to cascade down the back of her head.
PTUUU~
Kenja nodded at the result in satisfaction.
“See? It worked!”
Hanabi sighed aloud, still unsatisfied with her performance, “Big sister is truly big sister. I did it for much longer, yet yours is still two times bigger.”
“I used to work as a shoeshiner when I was small. After running out of water, I would continue while using spit. That’s what it means to be a professional!”
Kenja tilted his bleeding nose upwards in pride, causing Hanabi’s eyes to sparkle in admiration. Blood continued to drip onto the ground, but the professional did not make any effort to stop it.
“Big sister, you must show me how to shoeshine later. I want to be as good as yo—”
“Enough!”
Kaitou Daiki had had enough.
The air around Kenja and Hanabi thickened, freezing them in place and making it difficult to breathe.
“Trash must be burned clean.”
With a wave of his hand, two white bolts shot out from the First Elder aimed at the two Qi Flourishing spit moppers.
The temperature in the room skyrocketed instantly.
Although the projectiles traveled at a speed faster than Kenja could see, time itself seemed to slow down as a feeling of death encroached him.
He knew, somehow, with absolute certainty, that his life was about to end.
The feeling felt hundreds—no, thousands of times worse than the killing intent he had felt earlier.
With this, there was no hope of salvation, no chance to escape.
An unlimited feeling of helplessness and weakness swallowed him.
His hairs stood on end, his stomach churned, and his heart raced as if every part of his body wanted to deny the absolute end that was upon him.
Kenja closed his eyes in resignation.

Dungeon Core Chat Room.
This is a slower-paced "experiment and dungeon building" web novel that tries to use the idea of peer-to-peer communication with Dungeon Cores instead of Dungeon to slave monster communication to break up the detailed dungeon building. Rank 1 description: (minimum met for system initialization...detailed description as follows) Each race was given a system by the gods to make up for their shortcomings and balance their place in this world. Humans: Abysmally bad at understanding and using magic unable to use more than the lowest of magic were given the "Skill System" magic in the form of premade skills with use, study, and mastery tied to experience. Elves: Intuitively understand magic and have long lives leading to vast knowledge and skill in their chosen fields. However, as a species, they have nearly zero sex drive and less than low fertility, so they were gifted the "World Tree System" with experience gained through the care of natural areas – gifting the chance of children to increase their numbers without dirty copulation. All “natural” or “wild” monsters are given an "Evolution system" designed around killing and consuming as many creatures as possible, slowly increasing strength and, at thresholds, allowing mutations to alter them multiple times. Dungeon cores are different. Unlike humans, they can see, manipulate and live off mana. Unlike Elves, they naturally crystallize after extended periods of time in high mana level areas. However, they cannot easily move or communicate and typically go insane without companionship. As a species other than the odd eccentric they are unimaginative. Brute forcing solutions without the drive to truly innovate. Thus they have been gifted with the "Dungeon Connection System" a magical version of the internet accessible by their peers that allows them to barter and sell: bait, traps, monsters, and knowledge, as well as entertain each other with “adventure streams” using exciting recorded battles and humorous reels of arrogant chumps biting off more than they can chew to often fatal effects. This is the casual story of a dungeon unluckily spawned far from potential adventurers forced to innovate beyond its peers to find its place in this world. Rank 2 Description: Justification. I've been on a dungeon core kick for months and while I love the genre – it's sparse with entries. Often the forced conflict gets repetitive and frantic solving of threats "power levels" the protagonist to god levels to progress the plot – taking away the nice steady progression fantasy I'm looking for. (Progression in this story is linked to how strong of monsters/traps/whatever he can create not his "level"...this is demonstrated by some of his newer monsters beating his older monsters not with discrete "this monster has 10 attack this one has 40") Additionally, the focus on 3rd parties with their drama takes away from the reason I’m reading dungeon core novels in the first place – I'm looking for magical crafting, experimentation and kingdom building – not defence from higher and higher levelled enemies looking to steal/destroy/control the MC. This novel is kind of just me writing the story I wish I could read. I like thinking about the experimentation that can be done in fantasy settings using 'mana' as an excuse to make up rules and try to keep them internally consistent. IE once I define how a rule works, I'm going to commit to keeping it – no breaking hard truths I've given when it's convenient, even if it backs me into a corner. Hopefully, that should make the story interesting to read even if it's SOL and less action-oriented. There will be problems to solve and a clear progression in strength (of created monsters and knowledge) however due to not wanting to force conflict for the sake of conflict the general theme will be closer to slice of life with few action sequences and no overarching goal so please keep that in mind when picking this up as the genre is not for everyone. Finally, I have a clear goal of what I want from this story (not an endless romp but a series of arcs and then a conclusion that's a couple of dozen medium-sized chapters long) I want to commit to finishing it or at least bringing it to a point of rest. I hate all the engaging stories that stop with a “hiatus” indefinitely so in the event I lose motivation I'll work to end this even if the ending becomes rushed/unsatisfying just to give a sense of closure. I’m planning on including several polls in terms of direction and taking feedback heavily into account if I get enough readers (but may choose to ignore it if it deviates too far from the direction I want to take this as in feedback like: “The MC needs a cartoonishly evil arch-enemy that wants to enslave him and force the mc to pump out magic items” or “the MC needs to make a body and learn teleportation then live with humans” will get shot down without consideration.)
