《The World of Argos》Chapter 6.2 – Never give a Sword to a Man who can’t Dance

Zach looked at the blue screen for a full minute trying to understand exactly what just happened. His first thought was to blow the 500 DP on skills, enhancements, bloodline upgrades, or even items. He could buy the books that were needed for his house quest; or buy passive cultivation techniques like he received with the shadow panther; or he could buy more extra dimensional space and leave his auto-loot function on. In fact, now that there was a new Packages section he might be able to get all three, and he was even able to get a scaling item for 300 DP. Daydreams of scaling weapons that slowly expanded a person’s power came to him from all the VRMMORPG’s that he had played. Dismissing the screen he went into this cabin to start looking through all the wonderful things he could buy.

Looking through the list of stuff, he was starting to wish he could have a shopping cart feature, but instead of asking for one, he just brought up a piece of mana paper and began writing down what caught his attention. When he came across an Enhancement item for males, he started to laugh that even in a fantasy world the male ego was still strong. Looking at the item, Zach pressed the button to look at the description and realized that for 30 DP he could be ready for the Adult Film Industry. Closing the item, Zach couldn’t justify giving up three skills worth of DP for his male ego and continued on looking for other items.

In skills and spells sections Zach found several things that he wanted to ask Grim’s opinion. So he wrote down several combat casting skills and a few spells like Fireball or Ice Dart to ask Grim in the morning whether he thought they would be useful. Opening the items section, Zach pressed the credit icon and the millions or billions of items went away to just a few hundred. He saw items that would scale according to his skill level and provide bonuses in crafting whether it be golems or other items. Weapons seemed to be popular and would increase in damage, as well as, abilities as ones level grew. He was even able to find a scalable Golem parts that linked to Zach’s mana pool, which when looking at the description he almost hit the buy button.

Divine Store Item:Modular Scaling Breastplate for Dwarven GolemsDivine Store Cost:315 DPItem Description:This item is a modular component for a Dwarven Golem. Upon choosing this item a skill must be chosen for the focus of the scaling magic. As the Golem’s Master increases their mana pool; the main skill, abilities, and attributes will increase on the breastplate. When reaching specific milestones the magic will change the material of the breastplate increasing the golems damage reduction.

Zach pondered if the skill had to be one of his or could be anything. If it could be anything, then why not a blacksmith to help him make golem bodies. Writing it down as a top item that he would have to spend a little more DP to get. He went ahead and started looking through the Grimoire Upgrades. Seeing all the party upgrades he could get and Zach began writing down their names; Shared Map, Designate Roles, Role Upgrades, Team Member Sense, Party Telepathy, Small Party Tactics, Party Experience Rules. Reviewing the descriptions made Zach almost purchase each and every one of them but he stopped because he wasn’t sure how common some of them were in dungeons. The Shared Map upgrade allowed Zach’s auto-mapping feature to take input from all of his team members. While the Role assignment, with upgrades, allowed the leader of the group to give out buffs to damage and healing. Party Telepathy was pretty cool as it linked up a small chat room in everyone’s head that allowed shared senses, ideas, and information, but coupled with Small Party Tactics it would make the team move and act almost seamlessly. Lastly with Experience Rules the leader of the Party could set up who and how much mana and experience each party member got for a kill, allowing them to power level a member instead of sharing it all equally.

Taking a moment to put on his night clothes, Zach went head and had Hayze stand guard at the door to his cabin. Taking out the pieces of armor, Zach attached them to each of the sockets and heard a clicking sound as armor turned the socket. Turning to his bed, he lifted up the light cloth blanket he had and laid down on the pile of Horned Rabbit furs that acted as his bedding. It was always hard to find a comfortable spot, as the leather hides were firm but would bunch up or create lumps. Andy had suggested he get a bit of straw or deadfall from the forest and then throw the hides over them but Zach felt that his cabin already had a damp smell to it, he didn’t need the decaying mass of plant matter to add to the aroma. Besides, what Zach really wanted was his space age material mattress back on earth that somehow felt like it had conformed to every curve of your body, while gently rocking you to sleep.

Feeling an uncomfortable lump in his ass, Zach went through the items section for a bed, finding hundreds ranging from 2 DP to 100 DP. Fantasizing about a goose feathered bed with pillows and bedsheets that costed about 40 DP he went ahead and looked at others. While for 100 DP, the goose feathered bed would come with a blessing by the God of Sleep to ward away nightmares and cast a light cure spell. As Zach shifted the furs around he gave up hope of going right to sleep, so instead Zach opened up the Bloodline section hoping that reading it would allow him to drift off to sleep.

Instead what showed up, almost made Zach jump out of bed. Back when he had just arrived in this world, the only item available for purchase was Grim. After he purchased Grim, he had seen other options available but hadn’t really looked in depth to it because of the high DP cost. So now that he was really looking at the section the first item on the list had caught his eye.

Beware, most dragons are highly intelligent and wise, but if angered they will kill the offending party.

There were maybe a dozen others like Fey Courts, Divine Beings, Elders, and Titans. Each item merely said that it started a quest chain that would create a Blood Bond. Scrolling down, Zach saw other items that seemed just as powerful in their own right.

Additionally, the intelligent companion will be able to communicate once per month to the collective subconscious of your race. By purchasing this item your offspring will be able to choose up to 200 DP of inherited abilities upon their majority for free.

“What the fuck?” Zach said at one of the last items in the Bloodline section. He knew that he had chosen Grim when he first got here, but it wasn’t like he had another 600 DP to spend on the second upgrade. Just to be sure Zach looked at the dulled out items and saw that he indeed had the second upgrade.

Divine Store Item:Grimoire Companion Bloodline 2Divine Store Cost:(Purchased)Item Description:Purchasing this item upgrades the intelligence within your Grimoire Companion. Additionally, the intelligence will be able to passively cultivate your mana by 1/10th your current cultivation speed. By purchasing this item your offspring will be able to choose up to 100 DP of inherited abilities upon their majority for free.

Scratching his head, Zach just couldn’t figure it out so he had to ask Grim, “Grim, can you help me out here. When the hell did we purchase second companion upgrade for you?”

Grim appeared in the cabin with a Spiderman onesie on and a toothbrush sticking out of his mouth. Looking at Grim, Zach started to laugh at the sixteen-year-old boy. “Fuck you!” Grim said as he pulled the tooth brush from his month. “You do realize that the way I dress comes from your subconscious memory of clothes, and just because you’re a DC fan doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy the struggle of Peter Parker. A flawed teenage boy trying to help his Aunt and love interest, while juggling the responsibilities of his mutant power. Besides three words! Mary… Jane… Watson! Red heads are just plain hot!”

Zach shook his head, “Dude, Iris West in the comic books was a red head too! Besides the Flash was part of the Justice League… and that’s just plain awesome!”

Grim shook his head. “Alright! It is crazy late and you are going to have to walk like 10 miles tomorrow. So to answer your question, I got the upgrade when you built the Mana Pylon. Remember how my self-image increased, and how I started passively began cultivating your mana, about that time?”

Zach closed his eyes as he tried to remember that day. Slowly a vague memory of surprise that Grim was no longer a ball of light came back to him. With everything that had happened with Courtney’s father and her, Zach had never really questioned Grim’s change in appearance. Opening his eyes, Zach shrugged, “I guess that makes sense. I mean a lot was happening that day and I just took it for granted that you had changed form and all.” Just as he finished what he was saying Zach yawned as he felt a wave of exhaustion hit him. “Still its pretty cool, I could start doing quests for a Dragon and get like wings or something.”

Grim shook his head, “Go to bed Zach. We are both tired, and now is not the time to discuss buying anything. I have your memories of Shake Weights and midnight buying sprees. When we wake up in the morning, we can go over all our options while you pack.” Zach said goodnight and went to sleep dreaming of Dragons and Courtney in a very tight leather rogue outfit.
