Chapter 12: Old Men

Waking up in the morning, Yu felt refreshed from last night’s talk with Lanruo. He did not know why, but he felt that he could finally put his ridiculously excessive strength to use! He felt that the way things are at the moment, he’s yet to get a proper grasp on his strength.

To describe things better, if he were to compare himself to a weapon, he would be a great Divine Dragon Cannon! However this Divine Dragon Cannon only knew how to destroy and despite the fact that you can aim and shoot, it was still dangerous to everyone! Hence, he decided that he shall earnestly strive to control his abilities, hoping to become a precise divine sword that can use its powerful edge to aid and protect his loved ones.

Beside him, Yu saw Yaya who’s still asleep. He saw her have a wide smile on her face as she slept, deciding not to wake her up for now.

I should pick up another mission and head back to the Ancient Forest with Yaya. Yu thought as he eventually remembered his wife.

“Good morning, slept well?” Yu said as he sent Lanruo a message.

“Yes, though I need to begin my lectures for the Spirit Elves in a while. I can’t talk for too long at the moment.” Lanruo said.

“Okay, I plan on going back today with Yaya after we settle a few things.” Yu replied.

“I shall wait for your return then.” She answered back with a sweet smile that had traces of longing. Although the two’s only been apart for a day, they can’t help but miss one another already. Especially after a conversation like last night’s.

“I’ll go for now then. Have a good day.” Yu smiled as he replied.

“Mhm, have a good day as well.” Lanruo said.

With that, he went to the bathroom to freshen up and by the time he finished, he realized that Yaya’s already awake.

“Good morning, I’m guessing you slept well?” Yu asked, seeing her rub her eyes, Yu can’t help but rub her little head.

“Un! Yaya slept very well!” Yaya replied with a smile.

“That’s good then!” Yu exclaimed, wiping her body clean.

After getting ready, the two went downstairs as they sat on a nearby table, getting food from the lady.

“Hey! Have you heard about what happened last night?!” The girl from before enthusiastically said.

“Yeah! The Saint Stage expert is back, and he taught that arrogant Meng Datien a lesson! Oh I wish I was there to see!” The second girl from before spoke.

“Dream on! You’d probably faint the moment you realize that you’re in a room with a Saint Stage expert!” The first girl exclaimed.

“What if I don’t? Maybe I’m even strong enough to withstand his aura!” The second girl exclaimed.

“Peh You’d probably run with your tail between your legs! Anyways, how did you know about this?” The first girl asked.

(“Peh” it’s a sound effect for spitting.)

“Of course silly, everyone in the city knows!” The second girl spoke.

It’s these two again… Could it be? They’ve stayed in this inn for 4 weeks straight?! Yu thought as he heard these familiar voices once more.

“I heard that after that guy fainted and cough showed their shameful side cough they immediately got kicked out of the Heavenly Pavilion! I also heard that Meng Batien was infuriated the moment he got out of meditation just this morning! He got so mad that he sent his younger brother flying across the street in front of their clan castle with the strength of an early Spirit Stage expert! His face even slid an impressive distance of around 30 meters! News like this sure travels fast!” The first girl said, filled to the brim with excitement! After all, where else could you find such a young Spirit Stage expert!

“Indeed! There were even rumors that it was the Saint Stage expert same who gave the Meng Batien and Xiamen Ru enlightenment, allowing them to break through! No wonder he was so furious with Meng Datien!” The second girl replied.

“Papa, who’s Neng Batin?” Yaya pulled Yu’s sleeve as she asked with a quiet voice.

“Hmmm, it should be one of the two pitiful brothers from yesterday. To think that he’s actually become a Spirit Stage expert!” Yu told Yaya, making sure that she was the only one who heard it.

“Ah! Yaya remembers them!” She exclaimed in a voice that only the two of them can hear as well.

Finishing their breakfast, they left the Southern Sky Inn as he carried Yaya on his shoulders. But as they walked down the street to go towards the Mercenary Guild, their path was blocked by a group of imposing soldiers that wore a set of black iron armor. Seeing this, Yu turned around to go the other way, only to see another wall of soldiers, this time around, the soldiers wore a set of clean steel armor. They were surrounded!

Their eyes were calm but hid a fierce aura, with one glance one could tell that these soldiers were no ordinary soldiers!

They’re probably battle hardened, but why would they block my way… Does it have something to do with that arrogant guy from before? Yu thought as he started guessing the reasons why they stopped them.

“Can I help you?” Yu asked, although he was troubled, he wasn’t scared. After all, he can kick their bottoms to the next dimension if they dare use force!

But when he sensed that Yaya who sat on his shoulders remained calm, signaling that these guys meant no harm. Actually, if one were to look closely, they’d see a few of the guards shiver!

“The Meng Clan Patriarch requests to see your Excellency!” A soldier from the front of Yu that wore a more intimidating set of armor compared to the rest calmly said, his face was calm, his eyes clear, but underneath his armor is enough sweat to flood the city!

Behind Yu, another soldier spoke: “The City Lord wishes to meet your Excellency as well!”

Turning his head, he saw another soldier speak, he was like the first one, wearing a set of armor that was clearly better than the ones beside him.

Realizing that two important figures wanted to meet him, he was slightly troubled. His eyebrows furrowed.

Seeing him not so pleased, the two’s hearts started beating wildly! As if they wanted to burst out of their chests!

“Can’t I just meet them at the same time? Oh! I remember, there was this really good tea shop nearby the City Hall, I’d like to meet them there in an hour or so if possible.” Yu politely suggested.

Although he knew what the position of a Patriarch and City Lord meant thanks to Lanruo’s teachings, he thought that since they were the one who wanted to meet him, it would only natural that he’d be allowed to be the one to pick the time and location.

Hearing his words, the two groups of soldiers no longer blocked their way as Yu continued to head towards the mercenary guild. After Yu left, the surrounding citizens grew rampant in gossip!

The Saint Stage expert actually dared to meet the Patriarch and City Hall at the same time for his convenience! He dares not to put them in his eyes! The surrounding thought.

He left them be as he made his way to the mercenary guild. Although they attracted a few glances thanks to Yaya’s adorable nature, nothing much happened.

The two reached the Mercenary Guild, heading towards the youth from before.

““Yo(~)”” Yu and Yaya greeted at the same time, causing the youth mouth’s to twitch a few times.

Their coordination improved… The youth thought as he was not sure if he should be praising them or not.

“Here to take another mission?” The youth asked.

“Yeah, something that’s in the Ancient Forest or at least close to it.” Yu replied nonchalantly.

Little did he know, the missions that take place in the Ancient Forest are usually ranked C and above! Hearing him say that he wanted a mission to take a mission there with a young child was considered as suicide by many! But seeing who he was, they quieted down.

“Hmm, there’s quite a few missions for the Ancient Forest.” The youth said as he gave Yu a few pieces of paper.

“Let’s see then.” Yu looked through the list the youth gave.

“Elder Dragon Subjugation… That’s a bit too troublesome. Rogue Earth Spirit Subjugation… I should deal with that together with Lanruo later. Divine Thunder God Ruins exploration… Now that sounds interesting! It looks like we just need to find a Divine Thunder Gem too.” Yu whispered as he read through the list, finding the ruin exploration to be the most interesting.

It’s just some ruins right? What could go wrong? Yu thought as his curiosity to explore this Divine Thunder God Ruins got the better of him!

“What do you think Yaya? Want to explore the Divine Thunder God Ruins together?” Yu asked Yaya.

“Un! Sounds fun! Yaya’s even visited that place before! It was fun! But I got scolded by mama… she told me to never go to that area again…” Yaya exclaimed but got dejected halfway.

The surrounding mercenaries who heard this were scared stiff!

Oi oi! What the hell is a kid like you doing in a dangerous ruin like that?! What is this idiot of a father doing bringing her along even?! Oi oi!!! The surrounding mercenaries thought as they could not comprehend this father and daughter duo, they’re too terrifying!

The youth who heard their conversation maintained his smiling appearance, though his body looked as if he gave up long ago as he let out a sigh.

“Alright! Let’s take this mission, this one please.” Yu said as he picked out the Divine Thunder God Ruins mission and handed it to the youth, even giving him a warm smile.

The youth took the paper and went back to the room behind him, he then handed him a small jade box.

“This is used to contain the Thunder Qi that emanates from the gem, take care out there! I know your strong but you have your daughter with you! Actually, don’t bring your daughter along with you!!!” The Youth exclaimed as he showed great worry towards Yu and Yaya.

With the father and daughter duo feeling touched, Yu patted his shoulder while Yaya patted his head.

“You’re a good kid.” Yu whispered as he pretended to wipe the tears off is his eyes.

“Un! A very good kid!” Yaya exclaimed as she really looked as if she was about to cry!

Seeing this, the youth went quiet, his face that had the best smile that he could muster twitched a few times as a vein appeared on his forehead, slightly twitching as well!

He wanted to kick these two out the guild right now! But remembering that this pair is not ordinary and leaned more towards the abnormal side, he left them be as he thought about how to vent his annoyance elsewhere.

Storing the jade box into his pouch, the two left for the Tea shop near the city hall. Asking for directions still as he was unable to familiarize himself to Nantian City due to just how massive it is. Thankfully its citizens are used to people like Yu who often asks for directions.

Reaching the shop, he saw two old men with heads full of hair sitting on the same table. One was rather fierce, his eyes were sharp like swords as he wore a simple but elegant black robe. The other was calm, serene like a lake, he wore a clean and eye catching set of white robes.

Seeing the two, Yu assumed that they’re the big shots who called him earlier before deciding to nickname the fierce looking one Fierce Oldman, and the calm one Calm Oldman.

Walking towards the table as he sat Yaya on one of the chairs.

As it turns out, the two didn’t even realize that he was already there!

His presence, I can’t sense it at all! I can’t even see through him! What kind of demon am I facing?! The two thought at the same time as they gave Yu a bewildered glance.

They were shocked, unable to utter a word as they could only wait until Yu speaks.

Sadly, Yu wanted to let them speak first! Causing them to awkwardly stare at one another for a good few minutes, not daring to be rude to one another. Eventually, a waiter went forward, legs violently shaking as he asked what they wanted to have.

“Hmm, I’ll have a cup of 5 Petal Blooming Flower Tea, as for Yaya, do you have juice?” Yu asked.

“Juice!” Yaya exclaimed as her eyes sparkled.

“Yes, we serve juice.” The waiter nervously replied.

Who is this youth! First he’s unfazed by a fight between geniuses, now he’s unfazed by the stares of two powerful patriarchs! The waiter thought in his heart.

“Orange then, Yaya are you okay with that?” Yu glanced at Yaya as he asked.

“Un!” Yaya happily nodded her head.

Seeing this scene, the two Patriarchs loosened up. Thinking that Yu wouldn’t be too unreasonable, after all, they’re all fathers here. Be it sons or daughters, they all have families they all care about. With this, the two patriarchs gave a warm smile as they saw Yu and Yaya.

“Well, I’ll have a cup of Jade Green Tea.” The Fierce Oldman spoke.

“Then I’ll have a cup of White Silver Branch Tea.” The Calm Oldman said.

The waiter immediately took down notes as his hands trembled with every stroke. Even his head had beads of sweat flowing down like a waterfall!

The waiter eventually left, leaving them alone. Silence once more, a full two minutes of silence. It was so unbearable that Yaya eventually pouted her little mouth as she puffed her cheeks.

Seeing this adorable act, the three men laughed happily.

“Ahem, I’d like to thank sir for helping my son in both cultivation and attitude.” The Fierce Oldman spoke first.

“Mhm, I also have to thank you for doing the same to my son.” The Calm Oldman spoke as well, nodding his head in approval.

“It’s nothing, truly! It was no hassle on my end so no need to thank me.” Yu said as he was a bit flustered, waving his right hand back and forth. Yaya who saw this action of his began to imitate as she waved both of her hands back in forth.

Seeing this adorable child do such an act, the two oldmen can’t help but give a small laugh.

“Even so, what you’ve done for us fathers has been akin to a gift from heaven! We couldn’t fix their arrogant attitude of theirs ever since they’ve won a few competitions and eventually formed a rivalry against one another.” The Fierce Oldman said.

“Indeed, believe it or not, this old bastard and I are very good friends! Right?” The Fierce Oldman said as he gave a hearty laugh slapping the shoulder of the Calm Oldman, causing his face to smash the table, reducing it to dust. Unfortunately, the Calm Oldman didn’t stop there as his upper body went straight through the floor as it became buried a few inches deep into the ground.

After the Calm old man got slapped into the floor by the Fierce Oldman out of habit, he didn’t rise up.

“…” Yu and Yaya were speechless for a while as a few beads of sweat started forming on their foreheads.

Seeing this, the fierce old man embarrassedly laughed as he scratched the back of his head, saying: “I think I used a little too much strength, haha!”

“”Calm Oldman!”” Yu and Yaya screamed in horror!
