《The Divine Path》Chapter 7: Another Lesson

Sora used the rest of his bait and began chopping down Gel Trees. Blossom and LeeLee didn’t have an axe so it was up to him to supply them with a fire for cooking. After chopping down trees for 2 hours he managed to gain 2 woodcutting levels and distributed some Gel Tree Lumber and tinder to the two girls. Sora decided to cook his fish before he returned to town and ended up gaining 3 levels in cooking, 230 Roasted Flat River Fish and 166 Roasted Feline Fish Snappers.
“Blossom, what kind of class do you want to be?”
“How cool would it be to be a class who can smash through my enemies without stopping? I’ve always visioned myself rushing through a horde of enemies, leaving nothing but a trail of corpses in my path. Don’t you think that would be cool?”
“Hmmmm, so an Executioner….”
“What?”
“Oh nothing, nothing at all. What about you LeeLee?”
“Well… I want to be able to blend in to my surroundings and only reveal myself when necessary. I guess an assassin class would be ok with me…”
Sora started to think back to his previous life, he had a lot of friends that would give him information on different hidden classes and quests so he was trying to find a suitable hidden class for the two girls. Blossom was a little reckless in fighting but her reaction times were on the level that famous players had in his previous life. LeeLee was not confident in her abilities but she was able to analyze a situation quickly and react accordingly, if she wasn’t so shy she would make an excellent raid leader.
“Message me when you two make it into the city, don’t swear allegiance to an order until we meet up again.”
“O-ok then, I’ll trust you mister fisherman.”
“Good luck you two, you should be able to reach level 15 in about 5 hours so I’ll see you then.”
“Mhmm see you then!”
“Goodluck mister fisherman.”
Sora packed up his equipment and materials and headed back towards town, trying to think of a suitable class for the two girls.
“Hey, Blossom. Why do you think mister fisherman wants us to wait before we get a class?”
“I’m not sure LeeLee, but he hasn’t let us down yet. I’m sure we will get a big surprise once we make it to the capital. So let’s do our best to get there faster!”
“Mhmm!”
The two girls finished cooking and decided to go back to Silver Wolf Hill to grind out the last bit of experience to level 15.
…..
Sora entered the town and walked directly to a small tower like building in the center of the town, it was made from a red polished looking wood and stood two stories above any of the other buildings in the town. Sora walked in and found a courtyard area at the bottom story, in the center of the courtyard was a statue of a beautiful lady that had a golden aura permeating from it. This area was the respawn point and the statue was of Helara, Goddess of Life. Sora could see players reviving every now and then with an irritated look on their face, just as Sora was passing by a white flash appeared followed by the appearance of a guy with blonde hair, it was Julius. Julius had just waited out his respawn timer and was happy to finally be back in the game. He smiled as he walked away from the statue, then he saw Sora. Julius’s smile instantly transformed into a scowl of anger, it looked like he wanted to tear Sora into a million pieces.

“You.”
“Oho if it isn’t my good friend Julius, I hope that little lesson about how to bargain last time has helped you.”
“YOU TRICKED ME YOU PIECE OF TRASH!”
Julius had attracted the attention of many players around the tower and even some guard NPCs took notice of him. The players quickly formed an audience as they gathered around Sora and Julius.
“Ah, I went through all that trouble to teach you how to bargain and yet you still resort to the same old tactics, really such a shame after I put in so much work to train you. Ok ok I guess I can teach you one more time, first you need to remain calm and collected, talk back-”
“STOP!”
Julius started to check behind him with a fearful look in his eyes, although he was in town and there wasn’t any enemies around he was still paranoid. After seeing all of the players that they attracted he straightened himself out and tried to look as dignified as possible.
“Ethereal, if you are a man then challenge me to a duel right here right now. No buffs from food, no healing, and no help from other players.”
Julius was sure that the only reason why he was killed last time was because Sora tricked him into backing into a wolf, that’s why he had such confidence when challenging Sora. Sora simply responded by sending Julius a duel request.
“You truly are a lucky man, to be taught not only a lesson on bargaining but also a lesson on fighting. Let us go.”
“Hehehe. I invite everybody to watch as I, the leader of the Multi-Million guild crushes this man. Let this be a warning to anyone who wants to defy my guild!”
[Duel commencing in]
3…
2…
1…
Right after the countdown ended Julius started to rush towards Sora, after the duel commenced Sora couldn’t keep his profile information private anymore.
“Level 15 already!? I thought I was making good time at level 9.”
“Wait… isn’t Ethereal one of the players who was announced two times in a row?”
“I gotta record this!”
Players started to record the fight between Julius and Sora just as Julius was making his first attack. Sora dodged the first attack made by Julius and followed up with a quick basic attack and [Slash] taking Julius's health down to around 10%.
“Wh-what is that damage!”
“Is the fight really going to be over that quickly? It hasn’t even been 5 seconds…”
Julius was panicked as he pulled away from Sora thinking he was about to finish him off, once Julius ran to the edge of the battlefield he stopped and watched Sora carefully. Sora didn’t attempt to make another attack after he used [Slash]. He calmly stood there and watched Julius run for his life, Sora calmy chuckled as he decided to make this fight a little more interesting.

“Julius, we can’t possibly let these good people have such a poor show, I haven’t even begun to teach you the lesson to fighting and you're already almost dead.”
“I’ll kill you!”
Julius started to rush towards Sora with a bloodlust in his eyes, he had been driven beyond reason and just wanted to draw as much blood from Sora as he could.
“Alright the lesson is going to begin now, you have 30 seconds so try to learn fast.”
Sora used [Purge with Silver] making his sword glow with a pure silver colored light and then pulled up his parrying dagger as Julius was just meters in front of him.
“Lesson one. Don’t let your emotions take control, you start to lose your sense of reasoning and make more mistakes.”
Julius started to attack wildly as Sora danced around, dodging every attack that Julius could throw out. All Julius wanted to do was land a hit on Sora, he started putting his weight into his attacks.
“Lesson two. A good defense beats a good offense, a good offense beats a bad defense.”
Sora parried one of the attacks and threw Julius to the ground due to Julius using his weight behind his attacks. Julius rolled on the ground before getting back up wanting to attack Sora again. As Julius looked to where Sora just was he noticed that his target had disappeared. As Julius noticed Sora was gone he heard a voice coming from behind him.
“Lesson three. Never lose track of your enemy.”
Julius jumped away and turned to find Sora standing right behind where he used to be. Julius ran towards Sora with red eyes, almost looking like tears were about to start flowing. Sora put his weapon and parrying dagger down as he stood straight, watching as Julius came at him with a maddening obsession.
“Ah, we seem to be out of time so I will leave you with one last lesson. Lesson four. Don’t overestimate yourself.”
When Julius saw Sora lower his weapons a wide grin formed on his face and he started laughing maniacally. Julius lunged towards Sora and just as his sword was about to make contact a silver light flashed and Julius found himself looking at a message saying “You have lost the duel.” Julius was transported out of the arena and found himself standing directly across from Sora.
“No...No! NO NO NO NO! YOU MUST HAVE CHEATED, THERE’S NO WAY YOU KILLED ME.”
Julius pulled his sword up and ran at Sora, wanting to land the attack he was about to land before the duel ended. As Julius was running at Sora a guard suddenly stood in between the two.
“Get out of my way you shitty NPC!”
Julius attempted to attack the guard and was met with the beautiful sight of a nice round damage number popping up.
-0
The guard retaliated with his own attack.
-14,665
Julius obviously died, there was no way anybody could survive that kind of attack at this stage in the game. The crowd was left speechless as some started to review the clip of Sora ending the fight, all they could see was a streak of silver light hitting Julius. Sora continued up the tower to find the sage as many players started posting the video of Julius and Sora fighting. Within just a few minutes the video had gained mass popularity and was one of the hottest topics of discussion amongst players. The way Sora fought was deemed as top tier and many players decided to try using the parrying dagger afterwards, almost every one of them failed. For the second time, Sora made the forums blow up with complaints about how hard it was to use the parrying dagger.
…..
Sora climbed to the last floor of the tower and found an old man dressed in brown robes staring out of the windows and into the distance. Sora equipped his [Cloak of Silver Moon] and approached the NPC.
“Greetings, great sage. I would like to be transported to the capital so that I may fight against the demon army and help humanity rise again.”
“You have indeed proven yourself worthy enough to help with humanity's sufferings. All of our fates are on your shoulders, good luck brave adventurer and may the Goddesses bless your journeys.”
The sage flicked his wrist as a glowing circle with many different runes appeared below Sora, after a few seconds the circle flashed as Sora disappeared from the room.

Binary of Life and Death
Monsters, gold, chaos, glory, adventure, what more could attract two of the greatest players of all time to Sugarea, the most popular MMORPG of its time. But everyone makes errors, and unfortunate for these two brilliant players, they have made the grave mistake of not actually sleeping like normal humans and missed out on the very moment the new Dark Legion update would take effect. Or did they? They wake in what seems familiar yet not, but they soon realize their predicament. They are inside their game avatar's bodies! A half-Demon and a Dragonoid are now struggling with more than just power, these two men have to find their new purpose and calling in a completely different world. Will they concur it like ordinary land or will they enlighten the planet into equality? Do figures pull strings in the dark or is everything open to the public eye? Nothing is certain except the unknown, and nothing is ever as it seems... This is an Isekai story, as such, some parts may sound either cliché or similar to others, but I assure you, I tried to prevent that. To make it known, I took quite a lot of inspiration from the light novel/anime Overlord, but that doesn't mean it's a direct rip-off of it. You'll find there to be quite the amount of differences. Just a little heads up as well, you should expect irregular uploads, as it takes me a long time to write each chapter. I am currently trying for once every other week on Sundays around 10:00 A.M. Chapters are usually 7k words and up, with the longest (chapter 3) being 10.3k words. So, if you like to sit down and read a long chapter every two weeks at 10:00 A.M. EST on Sundays, then you can waste your time here! Small disclaimer: Profanity is far and few between, and mostly used by side characters, rarely the main character. When something with gore happens, I describe to the best of my ability, which will only get better the longer I write this... :) Small cuts between perspectives happen, and can hide what some characters do, which will be revealed in future chapters, I'm not that lazy... all the time... There are some parts that are long blocks of text, most, if not all, of them, are characters talking, but I try not to info dump. I know one of the tags says "Psychological", and for the most part, it is, but it's not as prominent as other stories, instead, it's more hidden and scattered, but I did try to make the pieces I did reveal all fit together. Cover art is bound to be changed when I have a good picture to use, so the Yin-Yang is a placeholder for now unless yall wanna gimme something to use *wink wink nudge nudge*. So yeah, please give it a try, as I have nothing better to do with my life, and I am banking solely off of a career in literature and am hoping that I can create a story that can actually be called something more than a child's imagination running wild. The eventual and inevitable end to the story won't be for a long while, at least till chapter 40 or so. I have thought long and hard about the message and themes at play, so I hope you, the reader (who has some amazing hair btw), can enjoy and partake on this adventure with me into my dark empty pit of an imagination.
