Avrin set the first book down on the desk where the other three were neatly piled. He realized his purchase of the book “How to catch flying fish” was truly not a waste, though mainly because it was being experimented on.
Avrin placed his hand over the book and emitted a nebula mist that began to cover it until only a black silhouette under a hazy purple mist could be seen. The book began to twist and turn in the mist until it was devoured out of existence. Avrin tried to focus as if half-assing meditation trying to picture the contents of the book. He mumbled to himself, “Maybe I should have read a bit just in case.” Then he shrugged. Too late now.
Avrin visualized the book as best as he could and felt a slight electrical tingling from within him as if something was beyond his body. If he had to describe it, he’d say it felt like his soul. He could feel a small surge of knowledge slowly seep through his mind. He opened his eyes and spoke. “Flying fish are spread out through pristine lakes in Seleria. They are more inclined to live in the waters of Agrianea, as the water contains much needed nutrients to help this fish grow. Chapter 9 page 102.” Avrin smirked to himself.
Of course, this wasn’t without problems. It seemed if he wanted to focus on certain parts of information he needed to enter a half meditative state as well as visualize the book for a few moments without interruption. He hoped as he got stronger and practiced more, this wouldn’t be an issue.
There was also another test Avrin wanted to try. He had planned to leave the book in his memory banks and would give it a few days before retesting to see if things had sped up and also to see if he could re-copy the book. Knowledge like this, if indeed it was one of a kind, would prove useful if he ever attained his own empire.
After a few hours, the sun properly hid itself and night was upon the village. Avrin made his way down and he could hear chatter as well as music and laughing. It seemed like a joyful place to be in. He made his way over to a shadowy corner with no one was around and he sat himself down at the large wooden table that had a sturdy set of four chairs.
At that moment, a waitress came by and asked for his order. Although Avrin could create food, it had a somewhat synthetic taste. Dark matter had limits to perfectly replicating the taste of food, then again, it was limited to Avrin’s memories and knowledge.
He decided to go for broke and ordered the A course on the waitresses’ recommendations. The course consisted of 11 different plates from roast beef ribs brazed with a savory gravy which was made from broth that had an assortment of bones and herbs and spices in it, all the way to desert which was a snow flake pudding – basically a large round, somewhat triangular, chocolate pudding with white honey dust extracted from a special type of flower and topped off with some unique looking fruits pickled in syrup.

The waitress was surprised Avrin had ordered such a thing as she only recommended it because it was meant for special occasions of people in groups and it cost a whopping 10 gold as the head chef personally prepared it.
Avrin didn’t seem phased on the outside by this. The only reason he bothered to order food as such was tasting it to see if it was different to food in his own universe, but on the inside he was somewhat excited. The fruit he had eaten earlier had stimulated his appetite, but he had put it off due to having other things to take care of.
As the first few meals came out, Avrin received some uninvited eyes from what seemed like adventurers who were celebrating earlier but Avrin kept to himself, as he was still cloaked. He began to eat the first dish which was a sort of lobster with a savory butter mint sauce. He tried not to salivate to ruin his outward appearance.
Just then, a group of adventurers entered the inn. Avrin only snuck a glance. It seemed to be the group from earlier in the day that had saved the little boy. Of course, he cared not for them but what caught his eye was the mysterious cloaked figure in the group that seemed to have noticed him the instant the group had entered. The figure was gazing at him, his face was covered by the hood and the dark.
Avrin didn’t bother to use an augmented eye to see, as it was bothersome. The group of adventurers made their way to a table near an all-male group, the boy leading the adventurer group gave a small sigh. It seemed he had a feeling trouble would arise.
Avrin was now through his fourth dish and wasn’t letting up. The hungry eyes still sneaking peaks at him were now somewhat surprised. Although it was the fourth dish, the portions of each one were not only generous but quite large, which explained the price of gold needed to buy it.
Even the adventurers that had entered were somewhat jealous, but the cloaked figure kept his gaze on Avrin, as if trying to figure something out and it started to make him feel slightly annoyed. Still, he cared not.
At that moment, as he was about to enter his fifth dish, which the chef had a little trouble keeping pace with, a large bang was heard in the direction of the adventurer group. One of the nearby, large, bald men who was easily more than six feet tall with a muscular build was glaring at the boy who had a smug look.
“What the hell did you say you little shit!!” the large man yelled at the boy, while his friends remained seated, smirking. Avrin could easily tell they were all intoxicated and seemed to be looking for trouble. Avrin’s ears, although somewhat sensitive would not have trouble listening in on the commotion as things had died down and others paid attention.
The boy that was obviously from the beastmen tribe shrugged and let out a chuckle. “I said, would you please stop eyeing the girls in our group, you perverted looking old man.” At that time, the other male, who was human, had a somewhat nervous look as he tried to calm things down by standing between the two. He spoke with a smile, “C-can’t we just relax and eat our meal? I’m sure there is no need for conflict.”
At that time, a smaller looking man, with a head that would put the shine of a bowling ball to shame, stood up. He wore a leather vest that showed a skinny figure that was nothing to brag about and went up to the human boy. As he spoke, he reached for his collar. “Get lost, you little bastar—” Before he could finish, the beastwomen in the adventurer group, who seemed to have had enough, had a menacing yakuza-like glare as she jumped up and punched the skinny man in the face.

The sound of a bone breaking as well as the smack seemed to echo as the man went flying in a spiral and smashed against the table of the men. Avrin had a feeling this was going to get messy, so he began to eat a little quicker while the workers of the inn tried to settle the commotion and others cheered on.
It only took a good 50-60 seconds from the time the skinny man went flying. At that moment, the other people in that group stood up while the elven female as well as the cloak figure paid it no mind and continued eating. The two beast tribe members in the adventurer group had crushed the men with ease and their unconscious, bruised, and battered bodies lay limp and twitching over the debris that had previously been furniture. “Meika, I’m not sure such a thing was necessary,” the human adventurer said with a sigh, checking to see if the men were even alive. Meika, the beast tribe woman, was dusting her hands with a satisfied grin on her face.
“Those idiots deserved it, thinking I’m some eye candy for old perverts. Isn’t that right brother?” Her question was directed to the other male beast tribe member who rubbed the back of his head with a pout. “I don’t care. I’m just pissed that you finished them before I even had a chance to get ready.”
“Jin, we aren’t here for conflict. This may leave a bad image of us when we enter the central continent’s branch,” the female elf said to the male beast tribe member. Avrin couldn’t help but lift his ears slightly. The word branch could refer to many things, but he wondered if it meant Gaia Academy’s branch school.
During the commotion, the cloaked figure had stood up and snuck around over near Avrin. As she gazed at him, the figures eyes turning that same white. Avrin himself blinked as he caught sight of the figure looking at him. He had no doubt that whoever it was, was currently examining him.
He grinned to himself and decided to test something. He augmented his eyes and released a somewhat menacing pulse directed towards the figure that contained dark matter. The figure seemed to jump and let out a feminine gasp as she backed away worryingly.
At that moment, the human male who was calm the entire time, saw it unfold. His expression seeing the figure that would soon be known as his sister being scared off by that strange colored pulse he had barely noticed had ticked him off. He was incredibly overprotective when it came to family.
He went over and stepped in front of the now known female who hid behind his back while peeking over his shoulder. The male was eyeing Avrin who had reverted his eyes right after emitting the pulse. He spoke out towards him. “What the fuck do you think you’re looking at?” The boy arrogantly spoke to Avrin, which caused Avrin, as well as the adventurer group who had heard eyes to widen slightly.
It seemed they themselves weren’t used to seeing him in such a state. Avrin chuckled quietly as he began to eat, while speaking softly, “I apologize. It seems I’m not used to having myself examined by a mysterious figure.”
Avrin himself was careful not to start a fight. He wasn’t sure of this group’s capabilities, but it seemed like they would be quite powerful if they were all as strong as that female. He also took into account the possibility of magic users.
Before her brother could speak, the figure spoke out. “Aleyn wait...he is right.” She came out from behind and lowered her hood. Her appearance was that of an 18-19 year old. She had a circlet with a green jewel across her forehead. She had ocean blue eyes and a flawless face that would make anyone judge her as a goddess in her own way. Avrin himself was somewhat impressed. He wondered if there was a reason why she kept her face hidden, which seemed to have more basis as a few people whistled towards the female before shutting up as Aleyn, her brother, gave them dagger-like glares. He spoke to his sister “Larissa are you sure? I could have sworn he had intended to frighten you on purpose.” Larissa shook her head while gazing at Avrin as if looking for something before speaking. “No, it was my fault.”
She then gazed at Avrin who continued eating while keeping a composed manner as if it were nothing to him, but he had a right to know the reason to why she did so even if he didn’t ask. She approached him and stood in front of the table, gazing at him with a gentle smile. “I apologize uhh...”
As she struggled, he spoke. “Avrin.” He decided there was no harm in letting her know his name.
“Avrin,” she smiled before continuing. “Sir Avrin, I have an Enigma ability known as Mana Beholder.”
Avrin stopped. His interest was piqued as he gazed at the female, his hood still adorning his face while a few of his features were revealed. Larissa could tell Avrin was quite handsome himself and she was curious to know what he looked like. Avrin spoke as enigma abilities were insanely rare on Seleria. There were rumors of some even matching deity-like abilities.
He had read up a little on abilities as he went around to look at certain places but hadn’t finished the booklet yet. “Enigma ability? Hmm.” The words alone from the female made the people of the inn to jump and gaze with awe. They would have focused more if it wasn’t for the fact of the dagger-like glares coming from the adventurers who seemed to be protective of her.
Larissa nodded with that gentle smile and spoke “I’m capable of seeing the mana of anything on Seleria, from the grains of sand to large boulders. From the small flower to the large beasts. Even if someone tries to hide their mana, regardless of how powerful they are, from basic leveled people to the range of mythical and higher, I’m sure it wouldn’t be that hard for me to pick up fragments of their hidden mana. But you sir, Avrin...there is no mana in you what so ever. Even lifeless husks have remnants of mana, but it’s like you are devoid of it completely.”
Avrin nearly coughed as he took a sip from an alcoholic beverage he was eager to try. From the name mana beholder, he could guess a bit of what she could do, but it seemed it was more frightening then he had thought – a truly useful ability. He stayed quiet as Aleyn was surprised himself and was gazing at Avrin then back at his sister.
Even the others of their group had a surprised look on their faces as they also sized Avrin up. Larissa spoke again.
“S-sir Avrin...what on Seleria are you?”

New chapters coming soon with edits to existing ones in process As a side note, I wish I could add a science tag to this.
