《The Dungeon Hive》Part 48- The Betrayal

“This way master, this way.”
“Shut up creature! Don’t tell your betters what to do!”
“Of course master! Of course!”
One of the great things about her enhanced senses was the simple fact that she could now hear things even when the people speaking thought that they were alone. The Speaker closed her eyes and moved her ears, a movement she never could do as a human, to will her ears to hear the enemy.
The group of humans thought they were being stealthy but to the senses of a werewolf, they might as well be wearing bells and shouting their presence at the top of their lungs. The Speaker crouched lower to the ground and waited. Then she saw it.
A bright red light floated into the room. When she first heard the message from the Creator, she had been surprised. Every human knew that fairies were tied to the mages who created them and the Speaker had never even heard of a fairy who had betrayed its master before. The Speaker didn’t even know it was possible. She didn’t know how the Creator did it but the fact that the new Creator could convinced one of fairies to betray the human whose life it depended on…well, she could only say even now the Creators had the capacity to surprise her.
She heard and smelled the humans before she saw them. The mage was in front of the group and she was looking distinctly uncomfortable. The Speaker could guess why. No question she knew something was wrong but pride and what passes for magical common sense was preventing the mage from admitting she had lost control of her fairy.
The group of human walked into the room and they were alert. They were learning that even with The Grand leading them, the tunnels were a death trap. With her enhanced hearing, the Speaker had even heard the humans spoke of how the tunnels were nothing but a dungeon of death and despair. The Speaker thought it was fitting name.

The Speaker waited will the group of humans had reached the centre of the room, then the room exploded! There were 4 tunnels leading into this room and the Kin had arranged their ambush from the other 3 entrances. The moment the humans saw the Kin, they did as predicated; the warriors formed up while the mage cut off her magic to her fairy. The male fairy laughed in her face before flying out of the room. The mage still had a look of shock on her face when she was cut down.
Coming from 3 sides, the humans had no chance and it wasn’t long before it was clear the warriors in front would be overwhelmed. They just didn’t have enough time to form the defensive line. The mages and hunters behind the warriors made a run for it. None of them got out of the room as the Kin cut them down from behind.
Just like that, the fight was over. This group of humans were dead and the Speaker was certain the other groups of humans on the floor would face the same prospects. With the tricky fairies leading the humans to ambush sites all over the third floor, what could go wrong? The answer came flying back into the room.
The fairy smelled wrong to the Speaker. It had a burning smell to him and the Speaker guessed this was due to the fact he was taken by the new Creator. Still, even if she was to ignore the smell, there was just something…unstable about the fairy. He had a face that looked like it was threatening to break out into laughter at any moment. Even with the death around them and all the danger, the fairy looked…happy. It was just disturbing.
The Speaker shook her head, clearing her head. This was not the time for such thoughts. The battle was still on-going yet. However the Speaker gave a small smile. With the fairies no longer with them, the humans had no scouts. The battle may still be going and it may cost the Kin dear but as long as they were willing to bear the cost, the Kin would win.

The Speaker heard the sound of another battle somewhere on the third floor. Yes, the danger to the Creators was still here but it would soon be over.
………………………………………………………………………………..........……………………………………….
The hive watched as another group of humans laid dead and felt another burst of energy. For the hive, this feeding had gone beyond a feast right onto gluttony...if any of the spirits had any idea what gluttony was. Right now, all they felt was greatness.
Although not great enough that they failed to notice a big problem; The Grand was still alive!
The ambush by the Kin was excellent. The traitorous fairy led The Grand’s group into a room where their creatures were lying in wait. The Kin knew how difficult of an opponent The Grand was and had prepared accordingly. The ambush group was numerous, outnumbering the humans by 2 to 1. It was of little use and the spirits could only watch in awe as The Grand single-handedly changed the complexion of the battle.
When the attack first began, The Grand immediately casted the cold spell that he used against You-Who-Are-Not-Bear to slow down the Kin. This allowed the human warriors to form up a defensive line that even the fury of the Kin could not break. Even in the limited room, that was enough as the warriors gave their hunters and mages time and space to do damage. The spirits within the hive went into discussion after the battle and it was one of those few times where almost everyone agreed on something. They need to convince the Fire Hive to help.
*Hey Fire idi…geniuses! You guys saw that?*
*Yeah, we did. That Grand is becoming a big problem. He’s just so…overpowered!*
*That’s what we need to talk about with you guys. We can’t just keep throwing creatures at that group. The Grand has 28 humans with him. Throwing creatures at them is just not going to work.*
*For once, we agree with you guys. So what are you suggesting?*
*Well…we want you to invite The Grand in.*
*Uh…what?*
*You guys always wanted to test out the lizard…so…instead of wasting our creatures, we let this group go straight to the Floor Boss!*
*So you want us to let this group to come to us and let our lizard kill them?*
*Yes. Your big lizard verses The Grand…with about 30 humans…*
*WE WILL DO IT!*
*…you guys remember what you said about him being powerful right?*
*WHO CARES ABOUT THAT FOOL? WE WILL DO IT! LET HIM COME!*
*…ok, that went better than we expected.*
Indeed it did and the Fire Hive did not bother to wait for the humans. The spirits within the hive sensed the Fire Hive gathering energy and creating their lizard. If they had them, the spirits within the hive would be shaking their heads. No matter how they look at it, the Fire Hive Boss looked nothing like a lizard. It’s bigger than Smoky; it got horns; it breaths fire; it got wings; it…led to a question.
*Hey, what’s it called? You Fire guys haven’t told us the name of your lizard yet.*
*Oh yeah! We call it the…powerfully-unique-fire-flinger!*
*…okay, that’s a good name. Have to give you that one...*

My Girlfriend, the Necromancer
The power of the Orb cleaves the skies and shatters the earth. It heralds the advent of a new era, one where humanity is no longer at the top of the food chain and we must rise to the challenge when faced with our own extinction as a species. I could hardly care less. All I ever wanted was to love my Allie, to grow old and wrinkly by her side as I held her hand before taking my last breath on this green earth. To have our love echo through the ages, an ode to the last great love story on the planet, one that would endure the end of humanity, the breaking of the world, and even defy the dread summons of Death itself. It’s said that when the gods unleash their fury upon mortal kind, they grant their wishes. Well, crap. This is a gritty end of the world survival story with modern fantasy/romance/game-like elements in it. The main focus will be character development while stats and menus are there as a fun vehicle to empower the imagination. This is a work in progress and I deeply appreciate any helpful suggestions, so please don't be shy with input! Currently posting at least one chapter per week.

8 132Tellus Stirs (Previously Earth AA)
The year is 2030. Earth is dying. War, pandemics, overwhelming pollution, species going extinct, climate change, etc. The so-called human race has brought more harm to their planet due to greed; their increased energy needs were on a path of decadence even with their increased technological advancements. Tactical Nukes were already used in conflicted zones in the fight for resources. The conclusion was a deep and frightening hum unleashed deep within the earth, heard by every living creature, and with it, civilization has ended. Those who survived wished they were slain along with their loved ones as the dead didn't have to endure what came after. Others took the opportunity to gain unimaginable power and prestige as a new age began. Chaos reigned as per the prophecies foretold in the past. Those who did not believe knew the signs were actual; these prophecies were no longer popular folk tales. Such titles, the Breaking, the Rapture, the Malhama, and many others, came at a high cost. After all, every city or densely populated area had been hit with natural disasters that encompassed tsunamis, Earthquakes, Firestorms, Typhoons, and hurricanes. Power, food, infrastructure. All of it was gone and what came after was worse as humans were no longer top of the food chain. Yet the imminent destruction of the 21st century re-opened a veil that had kept the world safe from hidden dangers, or maybe it was the other way around. Time will tell. In our story, the Protagonist rises from the ashes of the apocalypse. A desert child soldier nurtured by tragedy and death looking for an escape to fill the void in his heart. By chance, in his hand, he held a blade with immense possibilities. Notes: (30.06.2021) - I have re-edited and revised the following chapters up to Chapter 24. - Changed the Title from Earth AA to Tellus Stirs.
