《Foreststorm》Chapter 64

The trap was quite easy to prepare, as all they had to do was send Arvog out to hunt a deer and bring it back to them.

Once done they gently deposited the deer carcass on the web, before pulling it back towards them, as if the deer wanted to escape. They gradually decreased both strength and frequency of the tugs until they stopped to wait.

About three hours later Ves'ra broke the silence. "Something is coming, Arvog sees movement from the north. Get ready." She warned.

The warriors nodded, tightly gripping their weapons and turned towards north.

The spider was deceptively fast, so fast in fact that Ves'ra had to wonder how far out it had been to take so long to reach them.

The spider emerged the forest without a sound, an impressive feat considering it was nearly two meters tall, taller than all kobolds present. It looked unhurried as it moved towards the deer and sank its fangs into the corpse, injecting its venom and completely ignoring the camouflaged kobolds right next to it.

Ves'ra took a moment to take in the beast's appearance and had to admit that the spider was terrifying. Thousands of small, unblinking eyes sat on its head, looking in every directions at once. A few drops of green venom had already fallen on the ground before it reached their 'offering', and were slowly eating in the ground.

It was decked in short, spikey black fur, and had large claws on its forelimbs.

Ves'ra started the ambush with a tiny nod, and many things happened all at once. All kobolds exploded with energy as they fired off their magic, the earth opened up, swallowing the spiders feet. Khu'te exploded into motion, moving faster than her eyes could see.

Dozens of ropes were thrown towards the village's warriors, each attached to one of the spiders eight legs. The warriors heaved even as the spider hissed in anger, its feet ignoring the rock binding it on the ground.

Her warriors were flung in all directions as their prey turned towards the mages, helpless in the wake of the spider's mass. It made a squelch and a glob of green venom left its maw, flying directly at one of the kobolds. The acidic venom was immediately intercepted by a wall of dirt, leaving the kobolds unharmed.

After another three globs left it the spider it finally noticed the futility of the action, and its head turned, looking at each of them in turn.

Once done all its eyes focused on her, having determined her as the utmost threat for its life. The massive monster jumped forwards, claws extended, directly towards Ves'ra. She was prepared though, having already surrounded herself with a layer of impact absorbing water and anchored it in the ground.

Still, she was relieved as one of the warriors intercepted the attack. He was flung towards the trees, but Ves'ra knew he'd survive. She started attacking with the rest of the mages, firing a multitude of lightning bolts towards its eyes.

The spider recoiled in pain as her attack hit, only to be flung backwards itself as the concentrated force of the rest of their mages hit its body.

The warriors were back on their feet, and she could see the energy rolling out of them as they heaved again, hoping to make the spider loose its footing.

"On my mark." She yelled, holding up three claws.

"Three.

Two

One

Go!"

Finally the massive spider lost its footing, thanks to all kobolds working together as one. With the spider incapacitated the wolves attacked, giving their best to destroy one or two of their prey's joints.

"Give it all you got." She commanded, changing up a powerful lightning attack herself. She could see the rest of the village starting various spells themselves, well all but Geh've, one of the fire mages. He was the only kobold-mage who decided it strengthen his body instead of his mind.

"Fire on my mark." She yelled, holding up a claw for a few moments before letting it fall down. All kobolds around her did just that, all except Geh've, the mad kobold, by now on fire, just started screaming and fell on all fours, running at their prey with full speed.

They were long used to that by now, so no one was surprised when he jumped before arriving, directly at the spiders head.

The prey did quite obviously not expect that, as it flinched for a second, giving the fighter-kobolds the time needed to pin it down long enough for him to land.

It started screaming immediately after, Geh've's ridiculous flames burning through its caraparace like it didn't even exist.

It shook a few times, dislodging both the ropes and the kobold, before its remaining eyes turned on Ves'ra. She had to gulp a bit, but immediately started pouring mana in a shield as the spider ducked, before jumping straight at her.

Its mandibles pierces straight through her shield, coming to a stop only centimeters before her snout as its face was stopped dead by the water.

Not one to let such a chance go Ves'ra froze the water around its mandibles and extended spikes of ice towards its remaining eyes.

The spider tried to recoil, but was unable to move, losing its last three eyes. The horrible that screech convinced her to stop her attack and retreat out of its range, allowing the other kobolds to finish it. And finish it they did, laying into the nearly unmobile spider with all they got while Ves'ra grew her shield around it, doing her best hold it.

Soon enough the struggle grew weaker as more and more fluid left their prey and her slowly freezing shield enveloped its whole head. The spider died soon after, and the village erupted into cheering.

"Alright, Tes'va take care of any wounded. The rest of you prepare the feast." She said, more than ready to eat something powerful again.

"Yes chief." Her village agreed, all wounded lining up in front of Tes'va while the fighter-kobolds started taking apart their prey. The last few hatchlings that were born after they killed the drake came out of their hiding places as well, more than ready to finally evolve and be a full adult.

Being the chief made sure she got the first and juiciest bit. Ves'ra couldn't help but be alarmed once she ate the first bite, that spider wasn't nearly delicious enough to be the ruler of this place.

She slowly looked around, searching for anything out of place and finding nothing. She looked at Tes'va and mentioned her over.

"Keep your eyes open, that spider was too weak, we'll have to do double watches from now on, spread the word, and be careful, I'm sure we're already being watched." She said, starting a spell she hadn't used in a while.

Slowly all water in the air came under the control of her mana. As the small bank of fog moved over the clearing nothing seemed to change at first, but slowly a different picture revealed itself it her mind, they were surrounded.
