《Requiem of Souls》Chapter 78 (Ice and fire)

Chapter 8
The weather that was cold turned colder, as the ice beast decided that it didn’t want to play with its prey. Tracking my companions with my ability I noticed that they were still not out of the danger zone and the Pheonix still wants their lives along with mine.
Looking at my options I find myself lacking, the overdrive spell has a long cooldown, a month and even with it, it is probably impossible for me to kill this thing, as the side effects of it are going to turn me into a useless doll long before I had landed the finishing blow.
The coldness of this place is numbing my senses.
“Glory Of The Dark Inferno!” I summoned my territorial skill in hope to trap the beast within a real hell. However,
The territorial skill Absolute Zero was used.
Due to the nature of skill Glory of the dark inferno and Absolute Zero.
A new zone had been created
Land of ice and fire.
Both debuffs of the territorial skills have been nullified.
All the buffs are kept.
Most of the view had split in two as two enormous pyres of flame rose and two geysers of ice stood to match them, the land broke in two, a half for me to thrive in the glory of hell, and the other half for the beast to roar in the coldness of ice.
“Herald! How Dare you trespass on my land, your fate is to be a shard of ice in this land of death.”
“You stand in my way! Let me pass!”
“You shall not pass!” (I had to do it sorry xo )
Igniting the chains on my hand, and looking at the almost impossible odds of my victory I could only laugh, as a challenge this difficult was long since I had taken.
“Let's see about that! Ice or fire; one shall remain the other shall perish.” I spoke through the roaring storm outside the territorial skill as I jumped forward.
The eagle opened its maw and shot a ray of ice that instantly froze the air itself, and I used a shadow step to dodge the ray that dissipated the moment it entered my territorial zone.
Once inside the Phoenix's side of the zone, I felt my body slowly freezing. It seems that if I get dragged to the other side I might lose this fight.
I swung both my chains after wrapping them together and igniting them to look like an infernal whip of destruction, straight through the Phoenix's head
Ice Phoenix
Critical – 22 000 Hp
-2200 Burn Damage
-1100 blunt damage.
Burn damage applied -500 Hp/second
49974900 Hp
Though a critical hit and it managed to destroy a part of the giant thing’s beak. It grew it back almost instantly. If I use the power of ice to regenerate his body, but it seems that his Hp remains unchanged.
Going at it the regular way might take ages for me to take it down, I should probably use something more drastic…
“Summon minions! I call upon the army of hell, the sixtieth legion I command you head my call and come forth, rise from that wretched hole and swear allegiance to me, for I am your lord and my will is to be followed. RISE ARMY OF HELL!”
I summoned the army to me
Summoning minions
How many would you like to summon Lord of the sixtieth legion?
“All of them!”
Summoning
60 000 Minion
The beast then roared at me as it began to force the winds to grow stronger the minions that I summoned almost instantly turned to ice and before they could even move they froze and with a strong gust of wind they shattered like glass

Mother fucker…
However, his tricks didn’t end at that as he began forging creatures of the ice itself that he gave life to and began charging at my ‘more resilient’ minions.
They were golems of ice
Ice Golem
Level 150
25 000Hp
God damn it.
He has the upper hand here as he can make as many as he can from this almost infinite resource of ice.
The minions that were close to my territorial skill remained unharmed by the assault of the wind but even that will not be enough.
The skill began to clearly show signs of weakness as it is surrounded by ice and the pyres of flame began to show signs of wavering.
This is not the way to beat this thing, not in his domain.
“Soul eruption” I summoned and struck the beast with one of my strongest spells the spell combined with soul projection appeared in the beast’s face, however, what shocked me most was that it actually dealt no damage to the thing.
“What the hell is wrong with this??”
Thinking about it, the moment I struck with my chains before I only saw burn damage applied, no soul damage was there at all… is it possible that this thing is immune to soul damage?
“Shit”
I swore as I saw the beast opening its wings and a huge torrent of hail and ice was shot toward me that was generated through two magic circles that appeared on its wings, and every one of my minions, though they were still being in the process of being summoned, most of what was here died and were unsummoned.
This is getting more and more absurd, and Nemu was much higher level than this and I didn’t have this much trouble with him, could it be true that a Pheonix is stronger than a dragon?
No, Nemu was clearly out of it that time I need to think of a way to defeat this thing.
I always used brute strength to vanquish my enemies. This will no longer be the case as this thing is absolutely stronger than me.
The Phoenix then flew a bit and roaring to the sky as he swung both his wings forwards. Thousands of feathers were shot forwards, sharper than steel and faster than bullets, they cut through anything that was still rising or anything in their path.
Most of the blades of ice bounced off me or were shattered, but some managed to penetrate the armor I was wearing and causing me to suffer some internal injuries.
“Dimensional cut!” I heard
As a giant wave of energy swam through the torrent of feathers and destroyed it, continuing on it made contact with the Pheonix and took half its face off.
“Why are you still here?!” I spoke
“We won’t let you fight this thing alone, we came together we will go together, if you fall and get trapped here you might not die, but we will probably never be able to save you…” said Haruka who looked pale-faced as the cost of that skill was a pierce through the abdomen with a blade.
“Don’t worry about us, we will try not to get in your way.” Said Misaka.
Another screech from the beast that was repairing its broken face and I knew he was pissed.
Looking at its Hp I noticed that Haruka’s spell though strong and powerful did not damage it that much. This thing suffers more at the hands of blunt damage than it does on slashes and pierces.
“Where is Haru?” I asked
Advertisement
“There,” said Haruka and I saw the idiots wielding a Warhammer and a shield and striking at the ice golems that were fighting my army.
“This place is too cold for them…” said Haruka
true it is but a waste of lives it will buy time but not enough for us to escape or make a plan…
hang on…too cold…
“I think I have a way out of this mess, but it might be a bit too risky to use…”
“What do you have in mind?” asked Miska who was healing Haruka.
“To fight ice we need fire, however my fire in this vast desert of ice is nothing but a candle in the dark… We need the sun to beat this darkness…”
“the sun?” asked Haruka
“No, it's just a figure of speech, I mean we need something hot, really hot… hotter than the sun.” I said as I smirked
“You are not thinking of doing that again right?” said Haruka
Misaka then replied
“Doing what?”
“It’s the only way,” I said
“Well of souls…” I summoned “Expand.” I added
Hell’s gates had opened
Beware of what comes from hell
Hell’s gates need to be closed down within
5Minutes or more monsters will leave its premise
And the vortex of souls grew, larger and larger as the golems that were above it began to fall down and melt. Haru managed to understand the mess he is in and ran away from the danger zone.
“The fuck was that dude?!”
“just calling for friendly reinforcements.”
“Dare you, damned Herald, to open hell and transgress upon the world’s taboos…you dare summon this in my presence! All shall feel my wrath!” cried the eagle as it opened its mouth shooting waves of mist and ice.
Forcing hell to literally freeze over.
The giant well was closed down with the power of ice and the heat that rose instantly faded.
However
“Dumbass,” I said as I called my army back from the frozen hole
A moment later an explosion soon occurred forcing the frozen pit to blow up sending most of the golems and a portion of the Pheonix’s chest out of place.
Never mix extream heat and coldness…
Hell roared even more as beasts began to emerge.
“Get out, get out and bring that thing to its knees,” I said as I cried out.
Fire demons and soul eaters came out and began lashing out fighting the ice beast.
My pyres of flame from my territorial skill ignited stronger as the fire from hell fed it more and more.
A third pyre then rose further increasing the territory of my black hellfire.
Some of the demons began to ignore the Pheonix and headed outside the fighting zone.
“Seal of hell” I activated the jewel and is shone in a bright red light forcing the wandering demons to fight the Pheonix against their will.
My minions began to climb the Pheonix but most couldn’t get past the few meters as they froze from the coldness of it.
The demons however who were fed by the heat of the inferno managed to easily climb.
The weather soon changed from freezing cold to that of infernally hot.
“Guys, things are about to get really hot here. You showed courage when you came back, but if things keep on like this you will die from heat, go back inside my territorial zone and try to survive the following moments.” I said to the two girls that nodded and pulled back.
“Haru, go back man, this is not a place for you right now, you still need more strength.”
“I can still help.”
“I know you want to help, but things are about to get really serious.”
“How would you know?” said Haru
Ice Phoenix
Entered enraged mode.
“I know…” I said as I saw the enraged phoenix goes into its ‘real’ battle mode.
The beast tried to fly away as it began to gain more and more altitude, the storm began to rage more and more.
I took initiative and threw my chains towards it, using the metamorphosing blade’s ability I made them much longer as they spun around it. anchoring my legs to the ground and igniting the things so they reached infernal heat they latched in and melted the ice getting deeper and deeper into its body.
“Climb Hell beasts, CLIMB!”
The monsters and soul eaters began to climb it, faster than ever and with great ferocity, they ravaged through it.
The demons first suffered under the cold, but the refreshing heat from the infernal pit and the still existing demons made the Pheonix’s attempt to escape pointless.
With more minions to help me and more damage, I dealt to it; the odds turned slowly to our favor.
The storm began to grow more dangerous as hail began to fall, ice with the size of rocks fell down yet it melted once it reached the pits of hell.
More monsters began to leave the premise of hell as the flying worms of hell started to rise.
Minghocao
Level 450
The giant worm of hell. Lives in the putrid and poisonous atmosphere.
Extremely covetous with a never-ending hunger for food.
Would eat its own kind.
The air began to turn more and more toxic as the poisonous atmosphere of hell began to pollute the air. Forcing the frost to weaken and the ice to become harder and harder for the Legendary beast to control.
The geysers of ice began to crack.
“Destroy those things!” I ordered some of the soul eaters who had no use in this fight, their ability to use soul energy was pointless as the beast was unharmed by no matter how many rays of soul energy they shot at it.
The beasts that were as tall as they geysers then attacked the things, using their shoulder hey crushed them and forced them to break from the Eaters’ might.
The Territorial skill Absolute Frost has been nullified.
The skill Glory of the Dark inferno had taken control over.
All disabled debuffs are once again active.
The black flames of inferno then raged more and more, fed by the actual pit of hell they grew and two more pyres of flame rose further increasing the heat of my own territorial skill.
I willed the territorial skill that is now fed by five pyres to surround the Pheonix and trap him along with every single beast from hell.
Now my skill turned to a giant flame of fire and the stuck beast was unable to escape, trying to force its way outside the flames was a bad idea as the Blackfire burnt it and made huge portions of it melt.
“Release me!”
“Never! Yours shall be the largest coffin!” I said as I pulled harder on my chains breaking the beast in two as the heat made it more fragile than ever.
Ice Phoenix
Level 1750
Critical damage
-12 450 000 Hp
Burn damage -20 000Hp/sec (Hell flame)
11 000 000Hp/50 000 000Hp
The damn thing was broken in half but it was still able to move, it was also using whatever ice that remained within his body to reattach itself.
“Don’t let it reattach itself I said as I willed the flames of the skill to roared more and the pyres to make it hotter.
“Daiki, you are doing it!” said Haru in an attempt to encourage me.
“Don’t worry about it, I have the strength to take it down now. the sixtieth legion, charge it”
“Cursed bastards let me be!” cried out the beast
“You shall fall here and now! take it down!”
The demons roared in compliance as they combined their flames into one huge fireball, that was aimed at the falling shards of a former creature of legends.
“Now” I ordered as the shot went forward igniting the thing and melting it down.
Ice Phoenix
Level 1750
Critical damage
-4 000 000 Hp
7 000 000Hp/50 000 000Hp
Burn damage
-5 000Hp/sec
Burn damage 20 000Hp (Hellfire)
Your hold over the Hell’s gate is failing
The gates must be closed or they will become self-sustained
“Use everything you got guys, we don’t have much time before the gate becomes too big to be closed.”
As I spoke
“Dimensional cut!” used Haruka as she stabbed herself once more with that cursed black blade. And summoning the ethereal Tengu to use that slash.
Ice Phoenix
-1 000 000 Hp
Critical strike.
-20 000Hp/sec (Hell fire)
5 820 000Hp/ 50 000 000.
“if you are not to set me free, then you shall die with me then…”
Said the Pheonix as it melted.
The glowing liquid then began to gather into a small egg-like object. It looked harmless but the sudden glow from within it spoke danger.
“That thing looks like it is about to blow up right?” said Haru
“We need to go now!” I said.
“Where to?” asked Misaka who was panting from exhaustion as she was releasing voly after voly of blood spears.
“Outside this territorial skill look at the beasts, they are not fighting anymore”
As it was true they chose to give up the fight and dive back into the pits of hell, whatever was going to happen must have triggered their instinct and they made the choice to escape rather than keep fighting. I can’t risk trying to kill that thing before it would blow up in my face. I might survive the explosion or at least die and come back, but my armor will probably turn to dust.
Even if I take it away it is really not that worth it.
“Everyone lets get out of here,” I said as I shadow-stepped outside of the zone taking the girls into my arms and asked Haru to hurry up.
Once outside of the zone and after a few more shadow steps I came back for Haru and took him as I heard an explosion within the territorial skill.
Once a bit far away I saw the whole dome of flame bloat and grow, trying to contain the explosion within, as more and more energy was clearly running rampant inside the dome was barely able to hold on. It grew to an enormous size and I truly feared if it manages to rip through it.
However, it didn’t.
You have slain a Legendary creature
Title gained
Legend vanquisher.
+500 Honor
+25% resistance towards ice element.
You have already obtained the rewards for defeating an enemy of 300 levels above yours.
Level Up
Level Up
Level Up.
…
“Wow the rewards are amazing, the level up is awesome too, I am almost all the way up to the one thousand level!” said Haru.
“If you are all the way there, then the girls must have reached that right? Haruka what is your current level?”
“its… 985”
“Very well, this means that you no longer need to be bound to me by the slave contract, it will only restrict your own abilities now that you only have 10% of my strength”
“True but we will lose the infinite stamina…”
“You won’t need to worry about that, you will have enough now that you won’t have to worry about wasting it all…”
“Now we need to go there fast!” said Haru as he darted forward.
“Why?” I asked as I saw Haru going towards the barely standing territorial skill
“Loot dude the loot! Do you know what sort of loot a creature that big and that strong will drop! Hurry up man!”
I laughed as I saw the guy being overhyped. The girls laughed too as they headed forward and I stayed a bit behind admiring the new scenery.
The storm faded into nothingness as if it never was here, this must be because it was artificially made and not nature made. Now without the mana feed by the Pheonix, it no longer can be sustained.
Looking behind me I now was able to clearly see a huge black mountain in the distance…
This must be our destination… the fabled mountain of glory…
I smirked and went towards the flaming land. There is no need to rush right now, we can get to the mountain soon, and now that we defeated a legendary beast we might have some rare material to forge new equipment. Who knows what we might find there and every weapon can have its usage now.

Ursus Ex Machina
Ozzy was a man of the wild. Raised in a remote village atop the world's mightiest mountain, he'd been taught to respect and revere the natural world. The realm he was born into had been there long before him, and it would remain there long after him. Sure, there was the occasional madman who threatened to destroy it, but such boasts were always empty. No one individual was actually capable of demolishing this beautiful blue-and-green ball Ozzy called home. No matter what terrible magics these villains wielded, they were incapable of causing permanent harm to the environment. Even if the planet was completely devastated, it would recover. Life would find a way to flourish, same as it always had. That was what Ozzy believed from the bottom of his heart, so he never once felt the need to save the world he loved. After all, it was never truly in danger. The world would be fine no matter what. The people were a wee bit endangered, but that was another story altogether. However, what would happen if Ozzy suddenly found himself devoid of his beloved wilds? What would the man do if the realm he knew - one of wonder, magic, and chaos - was replaced with a man-made environment of concrete, industry, and steam? Ozzy could never imagine such a thing happening, and yet that was his new reality. After losing a fateful confrontation with a mad wizard, he and his friends found themselves transported to a strange world so thoroughly alien that every waking moment feels like a fever dream. Separated and scattered to the four corners of this land, each of these adventurers will need to adapt, survive, and overcome if they hope to reunite. They would also need to do so quickly. The sooner they are able to find one another, the sooner they can figure out a way back home and have another crack at putting an end to the villain's plans. Whether such a thing was actually possible in a world with barely any magic in it was a valid concern, but Ozzy had more immediate things to worry about. For instance, why did the air smell like a perpetual forest fire? How did ships sail through the sky as if it were water? And most importantly, was the pavement he was hurtling towards at high speed much softer than it looked? Probably not, but a man could hope.

Protagonist: The Whims of Gods
Book one now also on Amazon! After quitting her job as a therapist and grabbing some work at a dog shelter, Tess's life became pretty slow. A tad boring, even. It thus came as no small surprise when she was chosen by a god. Thrust into a new world where magic, monsters, and character levels are suddenly a reality, Tess will quickly find that just surviving can be a challenge. It doesn't help that dark forces are stirring, she's woefully underpowered, and that spiders keep trying to claw her face off. One thing's for certain, though: The possibilities are endless. Will she end up wrestling a dragon? Becoming an arch-mage? Opening a quaint, bookstore, coffee shop, and wine bar for elves? The choice is hers... As long as she can live long enough to make it. Protagonist is a fairly classic LitRPG novel with character levels, classes, stats, settlements, and other LitRPG elements. Unlike a lot of LitRPG stories, while the protagonist has some perks, she doesn't start off overpowered. You can expect to see her struggle as she advances. This novel also takes the opportunity to explore some less frequently seen builds, shying away from any min-maxing. Chapters are about ~2000-3000 words and are released at 8:00am ET every other day.
