《[RETIRED] Gamer's Guide to Waking up as a Dinosaur》37: More Design Flaws

The body stood in front of me, and I rotated it a few times to ensure that I knew what I was going to do before I did it. It’s important to plan things like this when you get a huge warning that says “No Undo!”
Satisfied that I had calculated everything correctly, I grabbed the arm of my previous dino body. Unfortunately, I couldn’t stretch it or modify it before attaching it to my shoulder.
Hmm. So not trading stuff in also gives me problems… Why can’t this just be easy?
At least the arm fit to the body quite well, since I hadn’t changed the height of the body itself that much, just the angle it sat at atop the legs. I spent another hundred DNA points on an arm, seeing the resulting plain appendage appear before me.
This one I stretched, fattening the muscle around the bones and making sure it could pack quite the punch. I grabbed three talons off the menu, and attached them to the long hand I’d designed. They were long and sharp, similar to the toes, but I was able to shape them a bit more so that they were less scythe-like, and more like something I could actually use.
It was certainly going to look strange when I walked around with two completely different arms. Especially since this one… now had a thumb.
I did my best to craft the extra digit into a long finger that could handle being on the same brick of flesh as my three talons. It cost me a whole hundred DNA points, dropping me to 700 remaining. I attached my stumpy tail to the butt of the Saurian model, which would probably help with standing.
I smiled awkwardly as I examined the headless creature so far. The left arm was definitely more capable as an appendage. It was slightly longer, thicker, and far more muscular. There was an obvious capability for me to run on all-fours… if only I had two similar arms.
Perhaps it still might be helpful to run on… all-threes, I guess? I’d have to do some experimenting, but there were definitely animals that managed to survive with only three legs.

Another 200 DNA points and I had a simple head. Fortunately, it came with eyes, ears, and a nose, which made my life easier. I positioned the eyes in the same place as my previous body, so that I wouldn’t have to get used to seeing differently.
They went in the front, slightly more widespread than a human, granting me a greater peripheral vision. The nose was simple, and went on the edge of the long snout, while the ears stayed in the same spot.
Then I grabbed my jaw, that I hadn’t yet recycled, and attached it to the face.
I laughed at the ridiculousness of the mishmashed piece. As I went to pull it off, to recycle the piece, I ended up stretching it instead.
Hmm. So if I attach the piece to a middleman piece, then I can modify it before attaching it to the core, eh?
I made the jaw larger than I’d had previously. It would be a nice little surprise for anybody that I bit down towards. The teeth were savagely pointing out of the maw, and I couldn’t seem to fix it. Perhaps recycled parts only had so much variation they could withstand.
Lucky me. I have 500 left!
Before I proceeded any further, I slapped the scale pattern onto the whole body, excepting the hand and tail, which remained their original tan color.
What color pattern would you like the Scale Pattern to have?
Um… Black? With like… specks of red?
I wasn’t sure if I would be able to be so specific, but with a flash, my color-scheme appeared.
Hey, can I change the color later on?
Patterns may be reapplied at no cost any time a [Mutamorphosis] is undergone.
Sweet.
It did look a bit strange, having a tan tail and arm, but at least the pattern managed to sort of flow into them, saving it from at least looking… dropped on. My jaw was interesting. It blended the pattern of black with red specks into the tan, creating a weird striped pattern across my face.
Interesting.
I spun the dino body, checking it out and making sure it had everything I needed. After ensuring I was satisfied and hadn’t forgotten anything, I grabbed the last item I wanted from the list, spending the last of my DNA points to do so.

I hadn’t forgotten the whole reason I was in this mess, after all.
I attached the final organ by shoving it deep into my body, and to my surprise, that actually worked. Nice!
Alright, magic boxes, let’s do it! I’m finished!
You have indicated that you have finished and that you wish to select the currently projected Saurian model.
Please note that this selection is final. Any injury, body dysmorphia, dismemberment, disability or death that results from a poor choice will be your sole responsibility. Do you still wish to proceed with the currently projected Saurian model?

…
Please indicate your selection.
Yes, yes! Hurry up and finish!
The magic boxes were getting very annoying with these confirmation messages. I just wanted to be done, and take a look at my status and other such things.
Performing final checks.
Reorganizing organs to function.
The dino began to walk around the darkness, hacking and slashing at empty air. My stomach rolled as I watched, and it actually felt like my insides were moving. It roared, a powerful sound that was far more intimidating than my previous form, and performed several more fighting moves, swinging the tail and jumping towards an imaginary enemy, biting down on their throat, I imagined. It crawled around as though sneaking, and sniffed in the darkness. The new hand flexed and tested the thumb’s limitations.
All in all, I was very pleased with the design. A chuckle bubbled up in my throat as I began to evil laugh.
Checks completed. What would you like to name this Saurian model?
Um, I thought. I was never really good at naming anything. I took a good look at the new creature. A song crossed my mind. A theme song from a popular television show. It sort of applied. Hmm. Mutant... Fusion? The words were simply thoughts I was considering, but the box showed me no mercy.
Saurian model saved as Mutant Fusion. Transferring…
No! Wait! I didn’t want to name it that!
The model faded into the darkness, the menu vanishing from my sight.
Damnit…
I blinked.
Error. Mass conversion failed. Adapting…
My leg kicked out by itself, cold wetness embracing every part of my body. A squish sounded out as I rolled in a comfortable cushion, and I opened my eyes to see the light above the cave shining brightly.
Congratulations! You have successfully been born!
You are now [Young Mutant Fusion].
Many different walks of life are open to you, should you be adaptable enough to survive. Be sure to choose wisely.
I checked my status, eager to see my new abilities.

[Arc 0 - The Prologue] Airen and Yuelei Casteya - Two twins separated in act of revenge not of their own doing. One is sent to the frozen north, where she is adopted by a frost phoenix and taught to survive in the harshest of conditions, eventually meeting with the forces that govern nature itself. The other is sent to the southern deserts and is saved by a band of slaves-turned-raiders who take him in as one of their own, where he eventually came into contact with a being that calls herself the History Eater. The two sought power and the forces of the world would soon listen, but not without their own aspirations. And perhaps if the two were to meet again, they would be so warped by their own hands and would not even recognize the other. [Arc 1 - Disciple of the History Eater & Knighthood] Under the guidance of Fieluri, the whimsical being from the Archive, Airen moves south to the Red Slate Republic to attend Stonewall Military Academy. There, he finds himself wrapped up in the History Eater's ploys, and at the same time, learns of the somber side of society in the slave-driven republic. Eventually, under Fieluri's instruction, he descends into the depths of dungeons where he eventually reunites with an old acquaintance. Yuelei, who has grown used to living in the snowy mountains, moves north to the Holy Land of Ecclisa to attend the Royal Knight Academy. After Lin leaves, she slowly adapts to living with humans again, but not without ceaseless caution. The thinly-veiled peace is eventually broken, for the monsters that haunted the nights in the Whitefrost Mountains are returning once more. In response, the Holy Land of Ecclisa slowly prepare for war, but Yuelei is not just a mere bystander. All paths eventually leads to conflict. When it arrives, one can choose to deter it away, or to revel in it.
