There were times when Redcap almost wished he hadn’t put forward his candidature for mayor. At least he had a small core of experienced Gaters to rely on. But that meant meetings.
“Based on the usual two-to-three newbies a day, we’re allocating the last intact houses tomorrow,” reported Amanda.
“And repairs?”
“That’s with repaired ones. If it was the original only, we’d been short last week.”
“Ah. Sorry, I was on Recess then.”
Amanda completed, “We only have one person interested in repairing and building so far, and even he doesn’t want to spend his full time on it.”
“So what’s the solution?”
“Tents,” said Dadanlong.
Everyone turned to him.
“We have not found better place. We can’t make more houses faster. So, tents.”
“You know, that makes some sense,” said Guretogurainda.
The woman crossed her arms in a swish of silk. She always wore a kimono, except for her adventuring outings where she had a full leather biker’s outfit. Her distinctive French accent combined with her Japanese appearance made her extremely exotic in both modes.
“Most everyone comes with at least a small tent when they spawn, just in case. They can switch to a larger one on their first Recess.”
“Or we can sell. Store needs selling.”
“Ok. Crisis averted, slightly. Next item?”
Guretogurainda pulled out a paper.
“Scouting reports. Dungeons first. The mirrored tower south got delved one floor deeper. The sixth underground level seems to be Lesser Elite 25-30. The group of four didn’t push it after two rooms. But they confirm that the floor plan appears identical to the sixth above.”
Dadanlong added, “with less bats and more insects.”
“Those have 8 legs, so they’re not insects,” corrected Amanda.

“Tiny legs. Chitin. Compound eyes. Insects,” insisted Dadanlong.
“Anyway… two more cave systems found along the Straight Gorge in the east. That’s six so far within two days range.”
“That gives us lots of things for everyone to do, thankfully,” remarked Redcap.
“We then have two long-range reports from the west who confirm that the 50ish zone west extends a lot to the north and south. If anything, the northern side seems to be a bit higher in ranks. The duo there spotted something that, from the description is probably Acrantophis Fulgeas.”
“Which is?”
“Rank 60ish giant boas. Nasty.”
“Ok. So no expedition west for a long time.”
“Speaking of which…”
Redcap made a denial sign.
“No info during Recess. But then, the Cartographer guild hasn’t announced anything, so they haven’t arrived.”
“Given the zone, do you think?...”
Redcap gave a snort.
“No chance. A group of veterans would have not too many problems. They just had delays. It doesn’t matter if you’re a Thousander when you get to a big gorge or something. It just takes more time.”

Lost In Translation
If you're one to travel the roads, you may have heard of me. You may have heard my Names in the stories, the songs, and the whispers of the road. Perhaps you've even seen me during my travels, speaking to a bird of blue light, or on a city street, performing small acts for coin and repute. Or perhaps you may know me as the Skystrider, who walked with the wind. Or the Voiceless, a man of song without speech. You may know me as the Tutor, who taught the Lion of Summer how to fight, or the Traveler, who has walked all the roads of the earth. I am all of these things. And people have branded me a myth. But people don't understand what a myth is. They haven't heard the songs lost to our tongues, nor have they seen the things I've seen. They haven't gone to the places I've gone. My feet have walked the plains, the seas, and the clouds. I have spoken languages unspoken; tongues lost to time. I have sung to the earth, held the moon in my arms, and walked the roads that your heroes hesitate to even mention. I have outwitted Demons. I have danced with the Fae. My songs have been heard by lords of wind and ash, and my steps have echoed in the bellies of gargantuan beasts the likes of which you have never seen. These are what real myths are. And me? I'm no legend. I'm just the bard stupid enough to poke the real ones with a stick. Discord link here. [Disclaimer: Book 1 of this story will likely be published in KU by around the start of 2022, so please keep that in mind. Book 2 and onwards will continue here until they are published as well.]

Spot of Mummery: Tales of the Bard Technologist
-Webfiction/RolePlay set in the FFXIV MMORPG world of Hydaelyn- In ancient times, Amon was an infamous, immortal Technologist - one of the legends of the late Allagan Empire. However, when calamity strikes his civilization, he's forced to place himself and the remaining Allagans into a time-locked sleep in order to survive. Fast forward many ages later when Amon and his people awaken once more. The world has drastically changed, and his kind is now deemed a threat. Through his ingenuity and aetheric technology, Amon manged to cheat death. Only, things didn't quite work out the way he planned. Stripped of his magic and technological resources, Amon now takes on the guise of a bard as he struggles to build a new life in a time long after the fall of his empire. But, should the people of this modern time discover who Amon once was, he fears they would put an end to the bard technologist's tale. I've been writing Spot of Mummery since 2018, so there's quite a backlog of story to post! This story was also written before the changes made to lore released in the Endwalker expansion (December 2021). I will address these changes eventually, but only in later chapters - ones written after the expansion came out. I hope that you enjoy and look forward to hearing your thoughts!
