Chapter 58: Resolution
Together with a body being pressed against him he could feel his lips touching a heavenly softness as he was unable to comprehend the current situation while Lilliana stood on her tip toes to kiss him with even more force and desire.
The earlier hug that he gave her out of thanks to a good friend had unexpectedly turned into something else and he cursed himself for actually enjoying it.
Finally aware of the current situation and seeing a mental image of Sharon that he still loved with all of his heart he quickly took two steps back and wiped over his mouth, surprise still visible in his eyes together with the bitterness of being used by her like that.
Makoto knew that she had feelings for him but kissing him when he was in a confused state of mind was quite the low blow.
He could see a wry smile on Lilliana's face as she also took a step back, clearly hurting in her own way.
"...Please don't do that ever again."
He finally said after a few seconds of silence and the girl before him gave a short nod, unable to look into his eyes.
With this elephant in the room, both didn't know what to say next so Lilliana did the only thing that seemed to be appropriate and apologized.
Only giving a short snort as a reply he watched her for a bit before letting out a deep sigh while walking towards the fountain.
Could he really blame her for acting the way she did?
Even if her intention was of selfish nature, it still was coupled with feelings for him and when it was because she wanted to show him that she would always be there for him no matter what with that kiss then he could blame her even less.
One good thing that this mistake accomplished was to actually free Makoto of his trauma and the resolution to fix things with Sharon no matter what slowly formed in his heart.
It must be understood that Makoto's fear of being abandoned by everyone was quite severe, to the point that he had closed off his heart to every single person and only Sharon and the rest of his party had slowly changed this.
He had experienced quite a bit of loss until now.
His own father disappeared after landing in the hospital when the other went on a rampage, his mother rarely talked to him anymore as the image of her son blurred behind the other's influence on his actions.
Friends turned on him after noticing his sometimes fragile and unpredictable state of mind, years of being neglected and called a nutjob made his heart grow cold and the only human interaction he really had was when he bought something in a shop or by talking with friends over the internet.
Azalon had fixed his social anxiety in that regard but at the same time opened old wounds again.
After nearly disappearing in the last few years without any incidents, the beast reappeared as if sniffing the blood that splattered inside the game.

The change to his body and mind in Real Life had not reached the previous peak but it was slowly getting there and Makoto was unwilling to let others pay the price once again, unaware of the real danger that it meant to be close to him.
"I am going to log out for a bit, see you in a few hours."
He quickly said to Lilliana who had not moved from her previous spot until now.
He didn't want to leave a gap between him and Sharon and at the same time he could not just let her stay in the dark anymore.
Even if it meant that he would once again be alone he would tell her the truth and also inform her about the other's actions when he lost control.
It was without question that his own selfish desire and love paled to Sharon's wellbeing and health.
Disappearing in a ray of light, a short whisper could be heard coming from the girl that was still standing there with a difficult expression, her face mostly hidden by her long black hair but it still allowed sound to travel out.
"...Don't leave me..."
…..
Sharon bit her lip until she could taste her own blood but even that was unable to bring her legs to move.
She was currently standing behind a corners bend after searching for Makoto and watched a conversation between him and Lilliana
It must be noted that she had arrived at this corner a long time before Lilliana but even then her legs just wouldn't move as the image of Makoto smiling viciously and her stalker smiling the same way overlapped in her mind.
It took her years to actually date and trust someone again but even after all of this time, this one stupid coincidence concerning a simple smile brought fear into her heart.
Even when she met Makoto and he nearly forced himself on her she was still in no way nervous because she was well aware that she was a lot stronger than him and that it was only a game so why now was she so afraid?
Once again remembering the previous battle she had to correct herself.
It was not the smile that planted fear inside of her, it was Makoto's eyes that she had seen at that moment.
The same cruel and uncaring savagery was visible in them, so unlike the gentle and caring nature that her boyfriend normally showed with his actions and that she could also see in his eyes.
Was this who he really was and the previous him only a lie?
Sharon couldn't help but think this way as her past had already clouded her judgement somewhat but she was not convinced even now.
Silently she watched both Makoto and Lilliana talk and multiple times she could feel a sting in her heart as she could clearly see how hurt he was right now.
And then it happened.
It wasn't the hug that got her but what followed.
The moment Lilliana took his head into her hands Sharon wanted to let out a scream but no sound escaped her throat, all she could do was watch Makoto getting kissed and comforted right before her very eyes and a never before felt surge of regret washed through her, together with a stream of tears that rolled down her cheeks.
It just wasn't fair that her fear let things turn out this way.
Were her previous words of always being there for him and loving him no matter what just a lie?
Was she really that kind of person?

Sharon couldn't help but let out a small sigh of relive after seeing Makoto immediately back away instead of returning the kiss and a rather complicated feeling appeared in her chest.
Wiping away her tears she stared at Lilliana and hatred welled up inside of her but it only lasted for a moment.
Could she really hate her friend that showed more care and compassion towards her boyfriend than she had?
It was obvious that Makoto was suffering from his mental issues but instead of being there for him she hid behind this wall and was even afraid of him.
Slowly but surely the fear inside of her disappeared and cold determination replaced it.
The Sapphire blue of her eyes deepened as did the resolve to fix things between Makoto and her.
Knowing well that she had no right to butt into the current situation and that she could only trust that her boyfriend would do the right thing, she turned around and logged out after a few steps.
In a blinding ray of light accompanied by a Sapphire glint, Sharon left Azalon and quickly searched her contacts for Makoto's number.
…..
It was late in the evening when he logged out.
Having been inside the game for such a long time it took him a few seconds for his hearing and eyes to adjust.
A sudden ringing to his left nearly made his heart stop and he quickly glanced at his phone.
To his surprise it was Sharon that called him and not for the first time, judging by the 16 missed calls.
Taking a deep breath he picked up and held the device against his ear.
"Hi my love."
He said as calm as he could.
"Finally, I have been calling you every two minutes you know?"
"Yeah I saw... so...what's up?"
Cursing himself mentally for being such a wuss he instead listened to Sharon's voice.
"I wanted to talk to you about your... issues."
Feeling his heart going cold he swallowed once before replying.
"I actually wanted to do the same, I think it is time that I'm honest with you because I think you deserve to know even if you might not like what you hear, I hope you at least let me finish."
And then he told her the truth, told her as much as he could about the other inside of him.
Mentioned his previous black outs and rampages that hurt countless people and made him go on severe medication.
Talked about his fear of being abandoned by everyone and also divulged his own concern that he would once again lose control but this time with her.
After what seemed to be an eternity, Sharon finally spoke.
"So it was something like that... I see.
Well at least I know if you strangle me it isn't on purpose."
Unable to laugh about this rather cruel joke he remained quiet and couldn't say anything.
"...Sorry, that was stupid of me.
It's just... a lot to take in."
"I know, take your time, I mean it.
You can just call me back in a few days and tell me if you still want to be friends and if not then j-"
"Wait a second, what are you talking about?
Do you think just because of this I am going to stop being your girlfriend?"
Surprised about the harsh tone in her voice he was unable to reply for some time.
"Now you listen here pretty boy and listen closely, I love you, ok? That means we are a couple and we go through stuff like this together and not alone.
If it really is like you said and that this other seemed to also like me, what do I have to be scared of?
So what if you got a split personality, Demon or what not in your head.
That doesn't mean that I will just stop loving you.
Would you just abandon me if I had problems like that?"
She finally asked and Makoto was completely stunned by this unusually hard tone from Sharon.
Normally she had a rather gentle voice so this was a first for him.
"No, absolutely not because I know it wouldn't be your fault so why would I?"
He finally said.
"That is the exact same reason for me.
I might have been a bit confused after finding out but that is understandable.
The reason why I was afraid of you for a bit... well that is something that I also owe you an explanation for.
You are not the only one with a past you know?"
After that Sharon revealed her shocking experience of nearly getting raped and also telling him that he had a similar look in his eyes when he was fighting beneath the wall as the man that broke into her house, it was enough to leave him speechless.
Her next words took a while as she told Makoto how she had to fight for her life and in the end killed her stalker in self defense.
Naturally he was well aware that experiencing something like that together with taking another's life would leave deep scars in her soul so he tried his best to comfort her as much as possible but she told him over and over that she had long since finished and left it behind her.
"It took me a bit by surprise and reminded me of some bad memories but that is it, I am confident that you won't hurt me and even if, I took some self defense classes afterwards so I can protect myself.
You are not alone in this Makoto and I am sorry for making you think you were with reacting like that."
Sharon's voice had returned to the gentle tone and once again he was thankful for being with a girl like her.
It took him a while to find the right words but after finally speaking he was unable to stop the surge of emotion that was clearly audible in his voice.
"Thank you Sharon, I don't even know how I deserve someone like you, really.
The same goes for me, I am always there for you and... I love you too, more than anything else."
Hearing an angelic giggle from the other end of the line he wanted to say even more but remembered his previous incident with Lilliana and the smile on his face quickly disappeared.
"There... There is something else I have to tell you.
Before I logged out I was with Lilliana and talked with her, I want to tell you that it was not my intention and don't blame her but-"
"I know what happened Makoto.
I also saw how you didn't kiss her back and instead stepped away.
After seeing you stay so loyal to me even after how I reacted, that was when I noticed how this fear was completely baseless and it was still the same old you. It took me a while to realize that I have to admit but in a way I am happy that I saw it even if I wanted to strangle that little... girl."
Feeling a slight shiver after hearing the cold anger in Sharon's voice he at the same time felt relieved that he didn't have to explain everything and convince her that it was not his intention to kiss another girl.
After all of what was said, how could he keep quiet about the previous incident with a clear conscience?
Makoto decided to vow to himself that he would not keep anything hidden from Sharon anymore from this day forth, no matter how small or big the topic was.
She was after all his other half and he couldn't help but feel a connection between them that further deepened after not being rejected by her even after knowing about the beast.
With a happy smile on his face he soon enough ended the phone call and stared at the ceiling of his apartment for a while.
There was really someone out there that accepted and still loved him without being afraid of him.
Feeling his heart beating nearly twice as fast as before, his mind projected a clear image of Sharon with her fire red hair and two Sapphire blue eyes that seemed to stare into his very soul.
"Mine..."
He quietly whispered as the beast inside of him purred with delight...
