"Your people have officially signed the terms of surrender?" The massive creature seemingly made of multiple colors of light asked, its voice akin to a harp singing. The vibrations of it were causing the air to pulsate slightly with raw power.
"Yes, Master" replied a short man, balding, while he prostrated before the Lumarian. The race of energy like beings that had come and conquered their planet. As the planet's leader, he had signed the agreement, some strange box-like creation that merely hung in the air, yet remained almost entirely transparent.
As for myself, I remained slightly behind and to the left of the short little bastard that had just signed away our freedom as a planet. I knew that it was likely the only reason we as a species would survive, Humanity that is, but it still rubbed me the wrong way.
Part of that was due to being a soldier, much like my fellow 'Honor Guard,' Frank. Neither of us wanted this, but halfway into the war between Humanity and this...thing, we learned that it was a single entity that was the vanguard for a portion of its people sent to obtain our planet for cultivation, and elevation into whatever they had that created those boxes and gave that monster its insane technological superiority.
Their condition though? Slavery, we were to become their slaves. The treaty detailed that a portion of our people would be taken and placed into these pocket universes based off of our more popular games to fight, build, and die for their amusement, as well as those left behind.
What pissed me off was that the contract was very vague on precisely which portions of Humanity would be chosen, how many, their ages - as well as the games that we would be forced into. Only they would be aware of the selection method.

They continued their discussion, the little fucker that was our Leader all but sucking this energy thing dick if it even had one. Meanwhile, I was flexing my hand on against the pommel of my AR-16. My imagination was showing me shooting the creature, I refused to give it a name and leading a revolution of the government to keep our Planet free.
But it was a pipe dream, I knew it, didn't mean the fantasy itself was a bad thing. At least...I thought so and was very quickly proven wrong when the energy monster seemed to focus on me. The look, though it had no eyes, I could tell it was mocking me. It thought I was an amusing insect, didn't matter it had no actual face that I could see. The pressure, the feeling of it focusing on me sent the idea straight into my brain.
I could feel my eye twitching, about to call the fuckers bluff that it felt it'd survive a full clip being unloaded into it when it spoke. "Regent, that one. He will be placed in our first Pocket Universe. I like the way he looks, and I imagine it will bring entertainment to your people to watch a..what was it? 'War Hero' fight for them."
"Now just wait for a God da..." - "Of course! Damian would be honored, wouldn't you Damian?" I stared at the little fucker, agast and shocked he had just shut me down. I could feel my eye twitching again, the barest motion of my arm raising to aim, then I was surrounded by light, the world around me fading as I screamed bloody murder.
When I came to, my weapon was gone, my clothes were gone, and I was staring at a multitude of boxes, the first and foremost all but screaming at me, the letter large and made in a dark red, so like blood before it turns brown from drying out.
Welcome, to the System.

Of Men and Dragons, Book 1
Book 1 is now available on Kindle, or in paperback/hardcover! You can buy it here! Jack crash-landed on a planet where the natives are seven-foot-tall carnivorous cat-lizards currently somewhere between stone and bronze age. The good news is the natives think the ship that crashed into their mountain is a dragon and are steering clear of it. The bad news is they just left one of their own as a sacrifice to appease the beast. No matter what Jack and his AI co-pilot decide, his life just got a lot more complicated... ATTENTION: This is soft sci-fi rather than hard sci-fi, hence why I chose that tag. For those of you unfamiliar with the distinction, here's what Wikipedia had to say. 1. It explores the "soft" sciences, and especially the social sciences (for example, anthropology, sociology, or psychology), rather than engineering or the "hard" sciences (for example, physics, astronomy, or chemistry). 2. It is not scientifically accurate or plausible; the opposite of hard science fiction. Soft science fiction of either type is often more concerned with character and speculative societies, rather than speculative science or engineering. The term first appeared in the late 1970s and is attributed to Australian literary scholar Peter Nicholls.
