《Cloud Dungeon》Book 2 Chapter 11

Felicia was given a new, complete, tour of all the floors and products of each island, especially those with unique leaders or auras like the pirates who produced rum and mead while others like the ones occupied by bee fairies had products like magical honey that had to be purchased or traded with.
She enjoyed the luxuries of the dungeon before going back down after her tour.
“Mir! Let’s make more wood elves!” Dia said excited.
“Okay, but to do that we need to make a system for the thorn and flower soldiers to evolve from.” She said.
“Huh?” Dia said tilting her head.
Misty floated in front of her, “The thorn guardian can’t simply jump to the wood elf stage like you made Mir, the gap is too large. It’s like how gnomes can’t become gentle giants without going through dwarf and runt stages.” Misty explained.
“Oh… do I have to make ugly monsters?” She asked.
“It just depends on your creativity, just try to change the appearance. Come on, let’s go to the third floor.” Mir said.
With Mir and Misty, and meeting Waid along the way, they flew to the third floor where they had to make the evolution following thorn guardian.
“Okay Dia, we will have to call three thorn guardians. First off, merge them and just let them take the form of whatever they will take, from that you just change it to be less ugly but don’t change it drastically.” Misty explained very carefully.
Around the beanstalk, with the fish swarm boss not around, the three thorn guardians soon dragged themselves over.
Dia asked which would be the base but they weren’t highly intelligent so she just touched the closest one and the beanstalk but to her surprise Waid did as well. The children then closed their eyes and they both appeared in the creature creation space.
“What are you doing Waid!?” She pouted.
“Just watching." he said bored.
She pouted but let him stay and they watched the three thorn guardians merge and the main one began to grow.
The large savage mouth with the huge thorn suddenly began to grow and open while facing up. The vines and thorns all fell down loose while wood began to grow from the mouth and took the shape of a human upper body made of twisted bark. However, it was savage looking and ugly with the large teeth still attached to the corners of the flower that had grown large but wilted.
“Eww!” Dia said.
“Yeah, it’s a Savage Thorn Alraune.” Waid said.
“It’s so ugly, take these ugly teeth out! Make the flower bloom!” She shouted and instantly the savage looking parts were gone and the flower suddenly regained vigor. “This yucky goo is gross!” Dia frowned and also got rid of it. “Make the wood fill in her body and make it like a big moving tree!” She commanded pouting and the twisted branches began to fill in until it was all compressed wood forming the human torso. Finally she removed the ‘ugly’ personality of a predator which drastically improved the likability of the alraune.
“Wow, that actually looks cool!” Waid said as he began to look at the alraune but then he grabbed the teeth and gathered it into a spear, putting it into a hand of the alraune. “There, it’s still a thorn plant so let it keep a weapon!” He said nodding.
Dia nodded and agreed that the weapon of the thorn teeth was oddly fitting.

They both exit and the process of growing suddenly starts as the thorn fangs instantly fell off and gathered together into a spear.
Then the body lifted up and from it the alraune grew out. Slowly the color of the flower grew more vibrant while the alraune used a small vine to grab her spear and held it before smiling and bowing to Dia and Waid.
“This is a?” Mir asked.
“A Thorn Protector Alraune!” Misty said shocked while flying around it, “They were able to retain the protection mentality that the thorn guardian was losing and strengthened that feature making them protectors of nature instead of predators!” Misty said in shock.
“This alraune looks cool! I also helped to make it cool!” Waid said puffing out his chest.
“NO! She is cute!” Dia said.
“Cool!”
“Cute!”
The two kept arguing and were almost in each other’s face but Mir laughed, “Alright you two, she is cute and cool." Mir said and the two pouted.
That said, Misty was already sensing a large amount of mana moving through the third, fourth and fifth floors as thorn protector alraunen were appearing from the thorn guardians who had abundant mana already.
As for the second floor, there were Lesser Thorn Protector Alraunen appearing whose bodies were not as perfect and were more like the first floor boss.
The fourth and fifth floors had Greater Thorn Protector Alraunen who could speak.
The group then proceeded to the fourth floor to continue the chain of evolution. Similar to the thorn guardians, both Dia and Waid touched a chosen greater alraune with two others behind her.
The form she turned into naturally caused her vine legs to drop off and form into human-like legs made of trees but the wooden body began to look like the tree warriors and looked very tribal and scary.
These were Tree Men which were higher level spirits but different from treants who were actual trees with human anatomy.
Dia, not wanting that, removed that savageness and tribal appearance leaving them as tall tree men with no large ‘ugly’ features but Waid was unsatisfied and decided to make them just a bit ‘cooler’ though not overdoing it. He caused the body of these tree men to become a bit more defined and added pulled some tree branches with leaves changed the form of the branches to form a long staff they walked with which connected them to nature at a much higher level like Mir.
The change of several greater alraunen didn’t happen instantly, with the evolution of the thorn guardians, there weren’t any alraunen who had enough mana for the evolution. So on the fifth floor, they had to supply the mana to three greater alraunen for them to become tree men before they could use those three.
When they mixed, the form change happened halfway as the wood began to harden but abruptly and drastically connected to Mir’s race. Suddenly, the head, torso and down to the elbows and knees became made of flesh while under the wooden arms was some blood pumping.
The appearance though shrank and became that of a young teen. Finally the wood elf had appeared properly so now with a proper growth and evolution line in the dungeon, in time, the fifth floor would become their main home.
Dia added monster cores to all the alraunen and tree men as well as the new wood elf so that they would have it as they grew up.
Dia was tired from the constant work so Mir took her up and put her in bed.

At the same time that Dia went to sleep, a large movement happened.
Following the request from Nick, his snow elf went to the winter fire bell flower empress spirit and asked about the request where they could find an open island that they could cultivate grains that could be harvested for food.
A frown appeared on her face, “All the islands are occupied, each and every safe zone, the islands are also not as large as the main islands where each boss lives." she replied.
“Isn’t there a way to make a new island, a ‘clean’ one?” the snow elf asked.
“There isn’t, not without Dia and you would need to call in earth wisps, gnomes and dwarves before being able to grow it to any significant size." she said.
The little snow elf felt desperate. Although there was an island with wild rice, it wasn’t in a large amount. The fairies just barely maintain the wild rice’s presence but since it’s neither magical or useful, they are hardly cultivated.
Seeing the snow elf desperate, the bell flower empress sighed, “Let’s go down to the fourth floor, maybe one of the safe zones or the marine base islands will allow you to form farms." she said but not holding much more to it.
Each island has their own unique products but their size isn’t exactly large like the main islands that were all reserved for Dia’s flower gardens.
The snow elf brightened up and nodded before going down with the empress to head to the fourth floor marine islands.
“Farms?! No!” The marine commander bluntly rejected.
“Why!?” The snow elf said desperate.
“Why should we release our limited land for something so unprofitable towards us? Rice is just a wild weed that requires a large amount of land and water to rear into a cultivated food crop. What is the point when we have so many fruits and herbs to live off." the commander said disgruntledly.
“You're not even going to give the empress some face!?” the snow elf asked.
“Whether I give her face or not is up to me. That said, this is my jurisdiction and I will not jeopardize my island’s food supply." he said coldly. He didn’t move on this before finally turning, “If this is all you have come to talk about then leave." the marine commander said.
“Argh! You're worse than goblins, stupid fourth floor half pint!” The snow elf shouted in her rage.
The halfling marine froze and turned around, “What did you say!? Do you think we wouldn’t kill you!?” he said coldly.
The snow elf snorted, “Who cares if you can, you’re just a fourth floor magicless dungeon monster. You don’t even have an admiral or fleet admiral. If Hook wanted to destroy you, it was as simple as gathering the fifth floor pirate crews and passing a raid through the fourth floor.” She said.
The face of the commander turned sour. This was the most sensitive topic for the marines, there had been a crew that had tried to go up to the fifth floor, but Hook personally went and destroyed their ship before they could even touch down on any island.
Several of the halflings had in their mind to pass through the boss but they weren’t close to strong enough to kill the fourth floor witch boss. These halflings indeed had no magical talent but their advantage was their taming talent as halflings all had a companion.
“Alright, let’s stop this, we don’t need to have enemies between ourselves when you're just randomly nervous. If we can’t get an island, you just need to wait until master wakes up and have her make another island.” the flower empress said.
The snow elf began to breath heavily as she forced herself to calm down before stopping, “Wait… Miss Misty has enough power to make the island can’t she?” she asked.
“Misty? I am unsure.” The flower empress said but a chilly wind suddenly came from behind her as the snow elf ran out and from her back, a pair of ice wings appeared as she turned into a blue light leaving behind snowflakes where she flew.
The halfling commander snorted, “Make sure she never returns or I will kill her." he said and went to work.
The flower empress sighed and flew after the girl.
She caught up when she was entering the vortex to the sixth floor from the fifth floor. That showed how fast the snow elf was going that even the flower empress had to put in some effort to reach her.
After arriving at the sixth floor, they flew to Dia’s house where Misty was. Dia was in her room while Misty was rolled up on a fur carpet in front of the fireplace when the snow elf arrived and knocked on the door.
Misty woke up and went over. “Hmm… did you need something?” She asked.
“YES!” the snow elf said excited.
Misty was confused and looked at the somewhat tired flower empress and opened the door for them to come in. “So what is it?” she asked.
“We looked through the entire dungeon for grains to make cookies and treats for Mister Claus and the rest of us to eat. We finally found wild rice on the third floor but we don’t have an island to make farms!” The snow elf said showing her despair.
“Oh… I remember that." Misty said nonchalantly, “So you want Dia to make a new island?” She asked.
“I don’t want to wake miss up. Since she will be asleep for a while, can’t you make it?” the elf asked.
Misty shook her head, “I can command monsters, I can modify a small section of each island with my own mana but I can’t access such a high level system." Misty explained.
The snow elf shrunk down depressed, her ears dropped with her mood.
“Why don’t you just take an island?” Misty inquired.
“Eh? Take it?” She asked.
“Yeah, there are plenty of islands that can be taken. As long as you push off the main ruling race you can take it over.” Misty said.
“All islands are taken, who would I take it from?” the snow elf asked.
“Who? There are several dozen pirate islands, especially those irritating sky sharkmen pirates. Just choose one and kick them out, their evil aura will also be cleansed but there is something for you to be wary of.” Misty said. “If ‘you’ rule over the island, you will definitely have your power restricted for being a sixth floor creature living on the fourth floor.” she said.
“Oh, no worry, I just need to get a queen that could take over to cultivate wild crops we have found in small number around the dungeon." the snow elf said and paused before looking at the flower empress, “Maybe if I could get the blue bell flower…”
“No!” The flower empress said coldly, “Those flowers are all mine and anyone who touches them will feel my wrath.” She said narrowing her eyes while a very strong pressure pressed the elf.
“I-I understand great empress." she said shaking.
“Good." the empress replied and got up before leaving irritated.
The snow elf turned back to Misty and bowed, “Thank you, I finally understand what I need to do!” She said and after saying that, she ran out.

The sky sharkman pirates were a race that Waid created by using Captain Hook’s aura on a wild sky sharkman. They are weaker than common sky sharks but are more pack hunters, use very primitive weapons and live on land.
Although they are powerful, in the entire dungeon only one island exists that houses them which is on the fourth floor and is their main base.
The island, after weeks under their power, had no spirits or magical plants remaining and only a somewhat wild forest grew with no flower spirits to raise it, making the plants grow wild. The island only grew from the natural overflow of mana meaning it was a much smaller island than others that had dwarfs, gnomes and earth wisps.
At this time, the village of sky sharkmen pirates and sky sharkmen took up less than one tenth of the island and it was made of mud and tree branches.
There was little to the village that had a large number of bones on the ground surrounding the village as if a warning to the other dungeon residents.
The sky sharkmen were rather peaceful when in their village and usually only fought each other in rare cases as a show of strength usually resulting in higher status. The village numbers around 120 common sky sharkmen and 40 sky sharkman pirates. As said, this is their only island so this was the top number of sharkmen in the entire dungeon including those that are hunting.
At this time, they were just randomly laid out on a white stone beach near the water when one of them felt a chilly breeze. It should be known that only during a truly windy day or when Dia passes through other clouds that are not her own, that strong winds blow through the dungeon. So when they felt the breeze that was strangely cold for the floor that had a more spring summer temperature, one of them opened their eyes and looked around.
When they looked up, they were shocked to see a party of 10 short elves with clear ice wings on their back.
“All of you… Leave now!” a short female elf said and suddenly waved her left arm. Instantly a strong snowy wind blew and slammed down on the resting shark men.
Several young ones were sent flying while the rest began to shiver. At the same time, a small stretch of land was covered in a thin layer of frost.
Roar! Hiss!
They roared and hissed their rage at the snow elves.
“Master does not like them anyway so let us get rid of them while taking the island!” the leading snow elf said.
“Alright!” the other snow elves shouted and suddenly snowy winds began to blow as all of them waved their hands.
“Hail storm!” they shouted together causing a blizzard like wind to suddenly form as the several different winds impacted and the small snowflakes formed into solid lumps of ice that rained down.
The sharkmen didn’t even have time to react as they were pelted with countless icy rocks coming down on them at dangerous speeds and angles.
There were almost 80 sharkmen lounging around because they had just come from a hunt and were resting under the sun when attacked.
With the blowing winds, only eight lucky child sharkmen were picked up and tossed into the cloud sea while the rest were hit with the hail.
As time passed, the hail kept hitting each other and they began to form edges.
“Ice spike storm!” the snow elves shouted and their magic advanced the formation of sharp icicles that pierced the many sharkmen leading to a huge and rapid death rate.
At this time, twenty long spears came flying at them but one of the elves swung her arms and a strong gust of snowy winds blocked the spears but kept them in the air.
She looked at the culprits and found all the pirates.
“You can have it back!” she shouted and suddenly the spears were covered in thick ice before being fired out at their owner.
The still surviving sharkmen watched in fear as their strongest leaders, the pirates, were killed.
Some of the injured but alive sharkmen crawled until they fell in the water.
There was danger in escaping due to their blood attracting sky sharks but one that escaped into the water was grabbed by the children that were hiding underwater and with a grunt, the sharkman had them take it away to another island to heal.
As for the rest, they were hit by countless forms of snow magic, a mix of ice and wind, until the last one died.
When the island was finally clear, the frowns on the faces of the snow elves turned into smiling grins.
“We did it! We got an island to set up a farm! Quickly spread out and get the earth, water, and flower spirits as well as the grains and wild crops!” the leading snow spirit said happily as they all split up while two of them used their wind magic to completely throw the sharks into the water and demolish their settlement. The pirate aura that was permeating the air drastically diminished before vanishing after the pirate variants were killed off.
As for the surviving sharkmen, they weren’t even pirates but normal sharkmen.
They swam to a nearby island where the adult sharkman layed down bleeding. However, having innate knowledge of simple goods of the islands that the sharkman had always used, it went and picked vibrant healing herbs, a higher grade healing herb than the common one found in the first floors.
Doing the same as the wolf boss of the second floor, it chewed part of the herb and placed the paste on its wound. It then ate the rest and told the little sharks to hunt rabbits for it to eat and help regain its strength in its primitive tongue.
They soon caught and returned with the rabbits. After eating, the only adult groaned with hate as it lead them into the water of a different area away from the now sky shark infested water.
With the small numbers, it was impossible for it to remain on this floor. It needed an adult pack of at least 20 members to properly hunt to several dozen meter sky sharks and other sea creatures.
As such, it could only lead them down to the third floor and as a result…
By entering floor 3 as a fourth floor monster without a monster core, your power is restricted to 60% its total strength.
Through the input of the world system, they were able to learn what happened when their strength suddenly decreased, making the adult furious, but they could only live on the run until they obtain a new home.
They didn’t realize that marine ships had been passing near, alongside some wyverns, and felt their presence. These groups knew that the sharkmen had descended, though they ignored it mostly.
It wasn’t until a few hours later that the news of the sharkmen pirates being killed off by the snow elves spread and they had begun extensive expanding of their island to make it into a farm.
“Go search for and watch the sharkmen. Prevent them from obtaining a new island. Send crews to inform all islands on the third floor! Beware of their attacks!” the only marine commander on the third floor ordered.
Like that, all the captain class marine ships were launched to spread the news of the fourth floor invaders.
As for the fourth floor island, the trash city of the pirates was gone but a new island was appearing as dwarfs made smithies and farm tools for gnomes causing a new race to form called Halfling Farmers. Similarly, Farmer Spirits were born from flower spirits who gained farm tools.
The shape of the island was slowly changed to one that was slightly elevated where half of it had shallow pools that would gather water and water fairy filled them up while the rest was flat for other wild crops to be raised.
One this island, the fields that were being opened were for nothing less then the wild rice for Santa’s rice cookies.

Life of a Core
After a disembodied voice had told him he was what amounted to an exceptionally talented rock, it had been hard to not let it go to his non-existent head. Until, random chance had decided to give him a square kick in the minerals. Which had in turn forced him to fend for himself in an unknown land, all while he attempted to make sense of his place in the world. Truthfully though, all he had really wanted to do from the start had been to bury himself a hundred feet below the ground and be left to his own devices. Yet, for one reason or another, nobody ever seemed willing to leave the dungeon-building core alone long enough to actually make one. Each chapter will average around two to three thousand words, the release schedule is still a WIP but you should expect the first six chapters to be released over the next six days. This is planned out as a dungeon building fiction, but don't expect it right off the bat! The story is a depiction of the everyday adventures (alongside an overarching plot) of what I imagine a dungeon core would experience when thrust into a random environment where everything and everyone tried to covet or eat him. I also really enjoy reading the comments and reviews people leave and would love to get some reader involvement with the story itself, likely through polls at the end of each chapter. I hope you enjoy my story! (If you feel like some of the characters seem familiar, you may have read some older work I wrote a while back under a different account. If you happen to be one of my old readers and recognize the similarities, I'm happy to have you back!)
