《Cloud Dungeon》Book 2 Chapter 9

A growl came from a large winged beast as it flew through the air. Behind it were smaller and similar beasts.

Far in the distance they saw the large cloud that hung over the forest of the elven nation.

“Big strong home find! Take for our!” The leader roared.

The others roared as they suddenly dove down exiting their camouflage of clouds. Their bodies completely exposed.

Large lizard bodies with long necks and a reptilian face. They had two large hind legs and their front legs were actually large leathery wings. These were the Wyvern race, a type of dragon normally regarded as a lesser dragon for only having wings and no arms but they are still not to be underestimated.

As the leader growled as mana gathered into it’s throat before it roared and released a burst of magic from its mouth that surged forward and impacted the dungeon from the first floor.

Suddenly the dungeon shook from the assault and every last dungeon creature, from the weakest wisp to the strongest red bus lobster, felt the impact.

The first floor residents suddenly looked in one direction. The elves living in the safe zones also looked but when they tried to leave they found something amazing, a barrier had formed around all the safe zones. What is more, the safe zones at the top of each beanstalk, all moved off their stalk and the stalks closed up.

As a defensive method of the dungeon, they protect all the safe zones where residents live while adventurers were being gathered up by the red bus lobsters and taken to the safe zones where they would be secure.

In a short few minutes since the first attack, the dungeon became ready for war.

As for the wyverns, they all gathered their power and attacked the weak point that formed which shattered the barrier forming a ‘doorway’ into the cloud dungeon.

“Capture!” The lead wyvern roared and burst forth into the dungeon, making sure its roar was heard throughout the floor.

In the sixth floor, Dia was covering her ears and crying. “M-Mir! W-What is that!?” She cried.

“It’s a strong monster invasion.” Mir said but she grinned. “They will suffer so much, don’t worry, I’m here.” Mir said petting the girl.

Mir hid the girl’s face, but her face was dark.

On the first floor, the wyvern roared and looked around before rushing towards a random direction.

SPLASH!

Suddenly from the clouds sounds of splashing came and from it 5 meter long feathered sharks burst out.

A hissing came from them but the wyverns roared and waved their wings dodging before suddenly grasping the large sharks like a hawk catching his prey.

They bit down on the side and ripped meat off of them. Afterwards, they carried it all higher and soon found an island to land where they began to eat the sky sharks.

The leader growled and kept looking around. This was the first time it had met such a strange dungeon structure, but although it could enter the first floor, as it looked up to the floor above, it knew it would not be able to break through the ceiling so easily.

It looked at its minions, “Hunt, find stairs!” It shouted and spread its wings.

The wyverns began to to take off and all began to fly.

They flew higher to not be affected by the sharks but they were surprised when some flying fish swarms began to burst from the second floor and first floor. They were made to dive near the water and to the weaker and dumber wyvern’s surprise, large tentacles burst out and wrapped their tail and leg.

ROAR!

Wyverns that were caught roared and suddenly rose up, bringing with them the fifth floor’s balloon krakens gripping them.

The strength of the kraken was not extensively large but they had their suction and grip that was strong but again, it wasn’t that good against such powerful creatures.

The wyverns all bit at them and ripped them open but they suddenly popped as the air burst from them. It was a lot of compressed air so the result was a very unique method to attract the attention of the dungeons creatures.

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

Bursting like a bomb, resounding explosions came from all over the first floor causing the dungeon creatures to all focus on these places and begin to converge. The wyverns soon began to discover the islands but none of them were the ones that would lead up to the next floor until an hour passed when a very resounding roar came.

They all were being hounded by the dungeon creatures, killing a large number of dungeon monsters in return, but now that their objective was found, they flew far too fast for the floor 1 creatures to follow into the first floor boss space.

The bewitching lesser lily alraune was already releasing a great deal of pollen when the wyverns all burst into the instance zone causing them to suddenly breathe in that entire space filled with sleeping and paralyzing pollen.

Their large powerful bodies gave them some immunity as they breathed in and released a large burst of flames from their jaws over the land and air causing everything to catch fire including the boss.

It shouted and roared but around its flower body, suddenly hundreds of vines burst from the ground forming a dome that was constantly moving.

Even when the wyverns were breathing fire, it became a standstill as it used the vines to defend.

WOOSH!

Suddenly, from behind, flower soldiers, flower guardians, treants and other flower creatures as well as vines of the bewitching lesser lily alraune attacked with a large amount of sleeping pollen and paralyzing pollen.

Each breath the wyverns took they sucked in more pollen but soon all the creatures died and the beanstalk ‘opened up’ while the clouds around it spread open for the wyverns.

“Up!” The leader roared and they all suddenly took to the air. They then flew up through the thick clouds and burst into the second floor with a round of roaring.

What they met were even larger sky sharks and swarms of flying fish, all of which were larger than the first floor monsters as well as more numerous.

What is more, suddenly bursting out from the cloud sea like a red bullet, a red blur sped out towards the wyverns.

The leader barely dodged but the weaker minions were instantly hit causing heavy cracking sounds to be heard.

They crashed down on the island below that had replaced the safe zone. From this island, suddenly, the earth grabbed these wyverns and pinned them. Spirits and fairies then began to come out and weave the dungeon mana around them.

The wyverns began to roar in pain as the mana began to drill inside. Much to their dismay, mana from inside them suddenly moved and aided the corruption. This was the mana from the eaten sky shark they had killed as well as all the other creatures they ate in their search.

The wyvern leader roared and burst down, smashing their bindings causing the wyverns to rage and suddenly begin to burn down everything.

All the creatures took a distance but the fairies were grinding their teeth. Suddenly the fire spirits and salamanders ran at the wyverns.

The monster salamanders living on the island were resistant to the fire and ran at them hissing and spitting their acid spit while the fire spirits sucked up all the flames and returned them in a sudden burst.

The burst was their concentrated flames making it a very painful attack. However, the flame strength was beyond what greater fire spirits could handle and would cause them to burn up together with the wyverns but they still attacked more.

After a while, the wyverns were breathing heavily and their scales and hide were burned badly.

At this time, mushroom spirits began to appear and mushrooms sprouted on the new land. Suddenly they started to grow, releasing their spores, while plant vines began to grow and grip the bodies of the creatures, pinning them down.

Gnomes and greater gnomes appeared and further pinned them by pulling their hind legs and wings straight underground, even pinning the tails, not allowing the wyverns any leverage.

The leader was still thrashing about when suddenly a red bus lobster burst out of the water at an angle and as it dropped, it landed right on the leader.

Following the first, nine others jumped out and slammed into the leader, pinning him down. Finally, the spirits and fairy, with much anger in them, began to corrupting them but made it much more painful than it needed to be.

The flower spirits were the worst in this aspect and they made it brutally painful for the wyverns, almost as if they were slowly pulling scales and spine spikes out.

When they were finally finished, the flower spirits began to control the vines to whip and attack them, causing them to roar in pain for a long time until Mir showed up.

“That is enough!” Mir shouted.

The spirits responded quickly and cleared out. Mir walked over to the leader who was having trouble breathing.

With a hit of her staff, the restraints came off and the eyes of the wyvern shined as he roared, only for his head to be struck by the staff causing his body to stiffen and his vision to blur.

“Don’t try anything anymore, you have already been corrupted into a dungeon creature. If need be, I will still eliminate you if I see you are a danger to Dia.” Mir said.

The wyvern leader collapsed from the impact.

The others slowly got up and looked at their defeated leader, it was then that their bodies began to feel numb and heavy until each and every wyvern collapsed as a result of the bewitching lesser lily alraune pollen and the sleep spore mushroom.

“Take them to the third floor, their base strength is good in that floor, the leader as well.” Mir ordered.

From the air and from the ground, spirits appeared and together they began to use magic to lift the 10 meter long wyverns.

The red bus lobsters came ashore, the lifted wyverns were then dropped onto their cloud platforms that they pulled into the water and in a group, they pushed the cloud ‘raft’ around each wyvern to the third floor where they were left on an emptied island with some animals.

While Mir was at it, she looked at the floor 1 kobolds, who were almost like simple animals, even dumber than the goblins born from gnomes. She thought of how to make use of them and had a few tribes taken to the wyverns’ island and several kobolds went to both pirate and marine bases to ‘evolve’.

Finally another tribe was left in an unaffected island so that they will grow with time.

Slowly, the dungeon began to return to normal, the large crack in the first floor vanished while the safe zones unsealed and returned to the beanstalks that opened up once more allowing free passage.

The elves were worried about what had happened but queen spirits appeared and apologized, explaining the dungeon had been attacked by a herd of wyverns but fought back. The residents sighed in relief but the adventurers were in shock that a herd was killed. However, it was a home field advantage after all and all of them knew, the open field of the cloud dungeon created a huge advantage allowing vast swarms to attack from all sides. Against a common foe, there were many kinds of tactics the varied races of the dungeon could take up.

The adventurers decided to all leave and restock, in fear that the dungeon has also obtained the wyverns, as dungeons would always try to get something new when monster invasions happen.

Very soon, many adventurers appeared at the entrance and they quickly descended leaving the dungeon mostly empty.

Hours passed and on the wyverns’ island, Dia stood behind Mir and behind them were Jack, Peter, Hook, Nicholas and Krampus watching.

They were on high alert and the island’s surroundings were filled with pirate and marine boats while the island had many of the crews ready to retaliate should these new monsters dare attack.

As they begin to wake up, they found themselves in a island with even greater mana density showing that it was higher up in the cloud dungeon but after a moment of joy, they discovered an immense battle force aimed at all of them and felt a chill crawl up their spines.

The wyvern leader looked down at Mir then around and froze when it saw the gentle giant with the wooden mallet in its hand. At the sixth floor Jack lived in, he could access 55% of its true power meaning, if the hammer hit, they would feel the full power of the giant.

“Listen, wyvern, you are now a beast of the dungeon, if you do not swear loyalty, your life ends now.” Mir said.

“Puny elf, you speak big to strong dragon!” The dragon said.

Before it could react, Jack’s hammer swung just in front of its face and a large powerful gale burst on its head, “Giv up, ah ain gon be nic.” Jack said.

The wyvern looked at Jack with a solemn expression and growled, “Proud dragon fear no!” He roared and his spines stretched as he lunged at Jack, only to have the hammer slam on its head causing a very distinct cracking sound and the head was crushed under the hammer.

Jack slowly lifted the hammer showing the other wyverns the mess left of their leader. They all shrank back in fear.

The second strongest stood up but its head bent down.

“Strong being, we surrender,” it said on their behalf.

Suddenly the corruption became even stronger and their dragon cores, a unique monster core of dragons, were infected by the dungeon mana. The final barrier was their acceptance, since wyverns are powerful creatures they had to submit to become complete dungeon creatures.

As they felt the connection, their minds had all ideas of owning the dungeon removed and was replaced with the thought of protecting it.

When Dia felt the chance, she finally looked and frowned at the wyverns but quickly found two ‘pretty’ methods to change them.

“Mir…” she muttered and had Mir bend down to ask about it.

Mir agreed and turned to the wyverns. “Our dungeon has forgiven your attack but in exchange, two wyverns will be evolved however she sees fit.” Mir said.

This statement meant, in other words, choose who shall evolve.

The wyverns looked at each other and some growled until two moved up.

Dia called a force wind hawk and merged the two. Instantly the scales grew into feathers, turning the wyvern into a Sky Dragon.

As for the other, she called a sky shark and merged the two. In the same way the scales became feathers but ones that could be used for both flying and swimming. It grew gills and the hind legs became a mix of land and water legs. The feet and the tail formed webbing between the spine and fingers and it grew more spines and webbing on the other side of the tail that could extend and lower, forming a kind of fish tail. The name of this race was the Sky Sea Dragon.

Their feathers shimmered like the rainbow which was due to Dia’s influence of wanting something pretty.

As for their personalities, she made them noble while both were turned into sky shark predators as a means to contain their ever growing number.

“This is now your island, in time, as you show loyalty, we shall permit you to migrate to higher floors.” Mir said.

The two new dragons bowed, “We shall obey.” the sea dragon said.

“Elf, are we able to got to the floors below?” the sky dragon asked.

“You can, but you are not allowed to attack ships of adventurers. Only within the third floor and above you can attack only when provoked. If you come without malice you can also trade with residents who come and explore.” Mir said.

“We understand.” the sky dragon said.

“Good, this is your haven, you may protect and grow it as you see fit. Right Dia?” Mir asked.

“Mn!” Dia nodded.

The primary dungeon, Dia, has given an island on the third floor to the sky and sky sea dragons as their island territory.

When the message confirmed it, the dragon aura of the two dragons spread out over the island causing the countless birds on the island to flap in fear and run. The kobolds on the island felt different though as they howled. The strongest suddenly began to glow and transform as the trace of dragon blood in their body activated becoming the true image of kobolds, the dragon kinds’ lowest minion, the Kobold Dragon Kin.

The pirates and marines cleared out, as did the other creatures, each returning to their proper floors and bases after the event that shook the dungeon.

In the ruins of the second island of Clover’s dungeon, during the night, ten drow skeletons guarded the mana pool and dungeon core.

In the dark shadows, a cat-like grin appeared and in the owner’s hand a staff, made of from a treant’s arm, arose from the shadows.

“Let us give a little push in the wrong direction.” Nighty said from his hidden spot in the shadows.

The staff shot out and stuck into the ground in front of a blackish grey skeleton.

It froze upon seeing the staff before slowly extending its bony hand and grabbed on.

Suddenly the weak magical runes on the bones began to glow more intense and split. They formed new runes and grew more powerful as it went.

“Ahahaha!” a mad laugh came from the skeleton as the shadows around it gathered and formed a robe of shadows.

“This is good power but I can get more!” It said looking at the mana pool.

BANG!

Suddenly a powerful blast of magic came from the door and slammed into the skeleton. The magic burst into a rays of light destroying the shadow robe and blowing the skeleton apart.

The staff flew into the air before a force caught it and suddenly flew it into a hollowed hand.

“It was very good that I had my guard up, as if I would leave such an easily evolvable creature like these drow skeletons unguarded. I have a very special power tracking spell on all my monsters, if any evolve, I will know and can teleport instantly to the location should I wish it.” He said and turned to the shadows.

He casually lifted the staff and spun it one turn, two turns and struck it on the floor.

“ARRAAHH!” A shout from the shadows came out and Nighty burst out and behind him, chains of blinding light that had invaded the shadows.

“W-What kind of bloody magic is that!?” Nighty said flying clear of the glowing chains.

“This is called the shadow seeking holy chain. When in a very dark place and you know creatures that can hide in the darkness exist, this is good spell to know, it kills weak ones, it pulls out the strong ones. Don’t think I can’t kill you because you hide in the shadows, I know you are weak to light magic, chaining you under the sun with a focusing magic to amplify the sunlight’s strength is quite a viable method of tortured death you know,” Clover said coldly.

He moved using the dungeon system and suddenly, a kind of barrier came out from the mana pool and all the skeletons were pushed out, as was Nighty. The walls with runes changed a bit and soon the barrier became part of the ruins. A few small protected points that were like mana wells appeared outside, just where the goblins had set up their camp and in that spot, a stone pillar with many strange markings materialized.

They were shocked and carefully approached it until saw that it wasn’t dangerous. They began to try to understand it and slowly one of them began to see the meaning of these strange magical runes.

Nighty cursed and sank into the ground outside, “Do not let your guard down, I can’t directly attack you since I am bound here, but I can still get what I want in the end. It is your nighttime against my powers.” He said.

“Don’t kid yourself, as a dungeon, sleep can be done almost as hibernation where dreams don’t form or I don’t need sleep at all if I wanted,” Clover said scoffing at him.

He looked at the staff, admiring the treant arm and the treatment Nighty had done to make it better for dark magic, fitting the Drow Mage Skeleton that had formed. He thought about what to do with this and soon floated outside, sensing all his goblin. He soon found one that was much smarter than others and was understanding the runes of the drow empire then flew down.

“You can have this,” he said and gave it to the goblin then simply left.

He looked at it and shouted almost like some monkey getting something. The magic rune the goblin understood formed mysteriously and it felt a strange energy in its body which was mana from its mana pool.

It was mystified, slowly it began to train that energy and just went back to its hut leaving the other goblin to make a new camp fire.
